This is part three of my series Notes on Translation of Chromatic Ode of Candies and Roses, where I will analyze all the errors and missteps Hoyoverse did in the English translation of Version 5.1's flagship event (or Nahida's birthday event, in case you don't remember). SPaG problems are not included. In part three, we're gonna focus on the event story Act III, "Second Gift — Give Her Memories".

赛诺：但一来他们货物被洗劫一空，没有物证可查，二来单从这起事件来说，他们属于受害者……
Cyno: But, they were technically the victims of the case, and all their goods were lost, so there was no evidence to investigate.

English conjunction "and" connects two structures of equal grammatical function, but not necessarily equal in terms of logic. In the original, Cyno first stated that there was no evidence, then said that they were victims, showing Cyno is a person whose logic puts objective factors before subjective and emotional factors, befitting his identity. This is in direct opposite order to the translation. Nitpicking? Maybe, but the change here is really more than necessary. Again, you may think your change is inconsequential, but it can actually hurt the character in a subtle way.

派蒙：城外？
Paimon: Which way did she go?

Funny how did the localization team put a simple repitition "outside the city?" into "which way did she go?". I don't know, just thinking maybe the original line is sillier.

赛诺：怎么是你小子……
Cyno: ...What are you doing here?

Did Hoyo forbid Cyno's English VA from using actual funny lines? How about just let him say "Not you little bugger..." ?

I really hope Soruth can actually use "thou" "thee" and "thy" in her English line. They are old-styled, perfectly fitting the "汝" from Old Chinese, which she always uses in the original texts!

赛索斯：尊贵而伟大的花灵，沙漠之子无人不识你们的名字。更何况是名为斯露莎的勇者呢？
Sethos: The Bloomguard, Sorush — renowned among the Pari. All children of the desert know your name.

Mind your order, brazen youth. You should praise all the Pari first, then pay special respect to Soruth after you recognize the group's value, like what you did in the original language!

斯露莎：吾等花灵乃小吉祥草王大人之眷属，便想为之准备一份特殊的贺礼。
Sorush: As her familiars, the Pari have decided to bestow upon her a special gift!

Judging from my experience, one use "bestow upon" typically when they are honoring persons of lower rank, like a monarch bestowing knighthood upon civilians. It was not Nahida's honor to receive such gift, but Pari's honor to give such gift. But, what I said here could be wrong. So excuse me if one use "bestow upon" among equals in English-speaking countries. Also excuse me for spelling "honor" instead of "honour", if you are from Commonwealth realms.

迪希雅：到时候可得好好表现哟！
Dehya: Make sure you knock it out of the park!

There's nothing wrong with this idiom's meaning. However, if I remember correctly, etymologically the "park" in "knock something out of the park" refers to the ballpark of a baseball court. So the question is, does baseball exist in Teyvat? Or to be broader, does ball-related sports that require a large field exist in Teyvat? Does Ludi Harpastum count? If so, then how did Dehya know a game from Mondstadt? Wait, Collei was in Mondstadt before. It makes sense now! It could be that she told Dehya about the sport after watching it with Amber and returing to Sumeru! THIS GOTTA HAVE SOME LORE VALUES! @IALDABAOTH1 I SUMMON YOU!

... but also it could merely be Hoyo forgetting they were supposed to be in a fantasy world. Sad :[

纳西妲：（…总觉得最近大家都躲着我呢，就像秋天树洞里的松鼠一样，一个劲地在藏东西。）
Nahida: (Everyone's been avoiding me lately. They're acting squirrely... like they're hiding something.)

To quote from Merriam-Webster: "SQUIRRELY: relating to, resembling, or characteristic of a squirrel; tending to be unusually active; odd; lacking stability or control; morally dubious or questionable". There's a lot of extra meanings to it! Huh. I'd say you shouldn't add extra ambiguity to your metaphor by using a weird part of speech. I'm talking to you, that team doing the translation work for the Dendro Archon. The original text just says "like squirrels hiding stuffs into their tree holes in fall (autumn)". Oh well.

坎蒂丝：比起我的琴声，妮露小姐的舞姿，才是节日里人们目不转睛的焦点啊。
Candace: Honestly, I think Miss Nilou's dancing was the real star of the event.

The translation uses a pun on "star", while the original text doesn't. I honestly think the translation does it better this time despite sacrificing the preciseness.

艾尔海森：[...] 一旦其所象征的往事被阐明，它就恢复成原本的介质了。
Alhaitham: [...] Once the events they exemplify are brought to light, there's little value in further study.

... I can't. The translation turns a saying of philosophical wisdom into a quasi-hypocritical remark. How about: "Once the stories they exemplify are brought to light, their original material valuation are restored into dominant position (while other external values diminish)"?

Those people lying on the ground In Natlan's story quest are kinda annoying, you get stuck and stuff and get hit 😔

I've never known how to shade, so the horns were really where I tried to practice, it took a good 45 minutes to do both, plus learning how to shade them. I've been drawing anime for years, starting with My Hero Academia, branching to Dragon Ball, and random One Piece and Fairy Tale ones, so here's my Genshin contribution. I might color it, but honestly, it looks kinda good, and my past experience is that when I color them, they don't look as good. I've also never done digital art before, I've always just done little sketchbook drawings and ones on binder paper, so this was a workout.

Anyway, if you guys have a character I should try to do, I can do requests...maybe.

Im at 45 pitty and i have the fate point so my next 5 star is going to be staff of homa

So right now I've saved up a total of 17,036 primogems (106 pulls) and 6 intertwined fates (112 total pulls).

The 2nd phase of 5.2 includes Neuvillette which is one of the best characters in the game and I need him.

I currently have 35 pity on the limited banner, so I need 145 more pulls for a guaranteed Neuvillette because I won my last 50/50.

145 pulls = 23,200 primogems

17,036 + 960 (6 fates)= 17,996 primogems

13 days left of welkin = 1,170 primogems

Total = 19,166 primogems

23,200 primogems - 19,166 primogems = 4,034 primogems

Now calculating primogems from the next welkin:

13 days before my welkin ends (Today is 9th of Nov.) + 13 days = Last welkin on 22nd of Nov.

23rd of Nov. = Buy welkin (instant 300 gen crys) + 90 primogems = 390

29 days of welkin = 90 x 29 = 2,610 primogems + 390 from 23rd Nov.= 3,000

Day of Neuvillette's banner = 10th of Dec. (32 days from today)

Which means I will be getting a total of 3,000 primogems on 22nd of Dec.

Last day of Neuvillette's banner is on 31st of Dec. which means I can buy a welkin on 23rd of Dec.

(instant 300 gen crys) + 90 primogems = 390

From 24th all the way to 31st of Dec., the total of primogems I'll be getting is (8 x 90) = 720 primogems

720 primogems + 390 (from 23rd Dec.) = 1,110 primogems

And also daily commissions (60 primogems daily) From 10th Nov. till 31st Dec.

=3,120 primogems

Actual total of the primogems I will be able to get until the last day of Neuvillette's banner: 19,166 primogems (including current welkin)

And then +3,000 primogems for the 2nd welkin

19,166 + 3,000 = 22,166 primogems

22,166 + 1,110 primogems (9 days of welkin + instant 300) = 23,276

23,276 + 3,120 (daily commissions) = 26,396 primogems

Which is 2,404 primogems more than what I needed but I can still spend it on Zhongli's banner aswell.

Now my actual problem is right as of now I have 17,036 primogems and 6 fates. I am currently looking forward on doing a ten pull on Nahida's banner because I don't have her and Xingqiu is also on the banner.

If I wanna do a ten pull, I need 640 primogems + 6 fates for it.

The question is, should I do the ten pull?

Because if I don't get a 5 star it'll just be adding more to my pity.

But If I actually got a 5 star? There are two possibilities as you've already know, a standard character or Nahida. If I get a standard that would be great news because that means I have a 100% chance of getting Neuvillette on his banner. (17,036 primogems - 640 primogems = 16,396 primogems) which is equivalent to 102 pulls.

But if I get Nahida??

It would be both good and bad news because my main goal right now is to get Neuvillette. So for me it's Neuvillette > Nahida. But Nahida is a great character for many teams so it's still pretty hard to decide.

So if I get Nahida:

Current primogems = 16,396

Current pity = 0

Now that I have Nahida, my goal will be the same which is getting Neuvillette.

But I would have to get all my primogems from 16,396 to 28,800. (12,404)

And I'm too lazy for that.

So my question is, should I do a ten pull on Nahida's banner for fun? Or just save up for Neuvillette.

So I have decided that we should petition Takuya to be a playable character in the game itself. After seeing @Strawberry.phosphenes 's fanart of him as a playable Anemo character, I couldn't help but bring myself to spread this art so that Hoyoverse can eventually add him to the game as a 4-star.

We can't all just stand there and ignore this guy, we gotta spread the word like I just said. Seize the day!

This headcanon concept has been living in my head rent-free, so I’ll just share my thought ms on it. All relationships mentioned are platonic, non-romantic bonds

So, I was thinking about writing a fanfic of the Natlan archon quest, but from my main team’s (Cyno-Furina-Nahida-Shinobu) POV. Basically Furina hears that the Pyro Archons were ordinary humans with a mortal’s lifespan, and she keeps thinking, what would’ve been if she was the Pyro Archon and not the Hydro archon? She shares these thoughts with Cyno (who she’s very close with) and he finds it weird at first, as she cannot back out from the Pilgrimage once it begins but tells her that if she makes up her mind, he will support her though it.

Side-note: Furina doesn’t have much combat experience, but she gets determined and decides to train her physique, both from Cyno and from Mualani (since she is also a Hydro wielder).

Also during the AQ, the Salon Members merge into a single entity called the Leviathan, strongly resembling Neuvillette’s draconic form (see his constellation). As Furina develops her combat skills and starts to utilize her vision more and more, so does the Leviathan becomes more powerful. Unlike the Salon Members, it becomes more like a tangible familiar (similar to Man Tsai or Ushi) rather than an illusion, slowly gaining sentience. After the Night Wars, when Furina becomes a Pyro Archon, Leviathan gets imbued with Phlogiston.

Furina’s Pyro archon appearance:

She changed her outfit to Natlanese style and decorated it with elements from her OG outfit by cutting it up a bit. She changes her hat, and turns the droplet ornaments on her outfit into hairpins, attaching her hat’s dark blue side clothpieces to them. She keeps the shorts, but switches them off to a baggier one, and changes her little heels to knee-high boots. Her top is a simple dark-blue long-sleeved body that has a cleavage cut resembling Focalors’s golden beads.

When she uses the power of the Primal Fire, her hair sets on fire, and here’s the catch: her flames are blue.

Edit: her Nightsoul blessing forms a blue tiara-like halo around her head.
