Basically, Zhongli is designed as a main attack which can be easily known by his special stat which is Geo dmg bonus, the only reason he can beat all shielder is "150% damage absorption" which means the shield has 150% hp more than same pyro, cryo, or others.
An easy way to replace (Note: that means if Genshin want to abandon him)him is literally give a geo pure shielder which gives HP on stats and also on A1/4 give some shield strength to everyone in the party, the final one, let the burst become useful like Layla.

I love how it's basically just his tail! I didn't really notice with the angle of the preview in the stream.
Reminds me of Dan Heng's tail in Star Rail.
