How Do Pals Get Depressed?

Low Pal Mental Stability

Pals have a stat called SAN or Pal Mental Stability, which refers to a Pal's sanity. Any time a pal is unable to eat, unable to get leisure time, or is overworked, their SAN decreases. If their SAN hits a low enough point, pals will become depressed, slowing their productivity.

This will be indicated by a purple tag with the word Depressed.

Pal's Path to Essential Structures May Be Blocked

If your pals keep getting depressed even if you have all of the necessary stations to prevent it, it's possible that their pathing may be blocked, preventing them from reaching essential structures such as their bed or feedbox.

Make sure to space out your workstations so your pals don't get stuck when bumping into each other or into other structures.

Pocketpair, the game's developer, has also announced via their roadmap that they plan on improving the AI of the pals in the game.
