Sakurajima Summer Update

No Longer Need Coal and Sulfur Bases

The new Sakurajima Summer Update introduced a bunch of new structures to the game, with two of them being the Coal Mine and Sulfur Mine. This removes the need for any Coal or Sulfur bases, meaning you can repurpose the Pal Box for a new base, like Crude Oil farming.

April 4, 2024 Update

No Longer Need Ore Farming Bases

The April 4, 2024 update added a new structure called the Ore Mining Site, which lets you farm Ore similar to how Stone is farmed from the old Stone Pit. You can also build an Ore Mining Site II later down the line for a greater mining output.

Raid Bases are Now Needed

The update also introduced a new kind of encounter called Raid Boss Battles, where you'll need to build a Summoning Altar in your base to start the Raid.

It's recommended to build a new base dedicated for Raid Battles since you'll need the space to fight the Pal, and other more important structures can get destroyed if the Raid Boss damages them enough.

Kelpsea and Dumud have received a buff to their Work Suitabilities since they can now be assigned to a Ranch to farm Pal Fluids and High Quality Pal Oil respectively. Before the update, you'd have to manually kill Pals for these drops, but now you can simply farm them at a Ranch.

As of the Sakurajima Summer Update, this is by far the best location to farm for Crude Oil in the game. Since you'll need an Oil Field for Oil Extractors to produce Crude Oil, you'll want this dedicated Oil Farming Base in the late-game.

Also, since you no longer need dedicated Ore, Coal, and Sulfur bases, you can combine this base into a single mega-mining base filled with all of your production needs.

Best First Starter Base in Plateau of Beginnings

Plateau of Beginnings (North) for Defense and Pals: 233, -488

World Location	Map Location

This spot is one of the best starting locations to build a base. It's easy to get to upon starting the game, and it has a vast area with choke points that help you protect your base against raids.

More importantly, the surrounding area has a lot of Pals that you can hunt for necessary Pal materials and food.

We recommend replacing this base with one that can farm Ores, Coals, or other necessary resources when you progress further in the game.

Beginner's Guide: Tips and Tricks to Get Started

Plateau of Beginnings (South) for Paldium Fragments: 264, -548

World Location	Map Location

The southern coast of the Plateau of Beginnings is another good spot to build your first base. It's a large area with a few mining nodes for Paldium Fragments nearby. It is also right next to a dungeon where you can mine Ore and Paldium Fragments, get dungeon Pals and their materials, and get Pal Spheres from the Syndicate Thugs inside.

We recommend replacing this base with one that can farm Ores, Coals, or other necessary resources when you progress further in the game. You can then farm Paldium Fragments by crushing Stone in the Crusher with a Pal with the Watering Work Suitability.

Best Early Game Ore Farming Base

Near Fort Ruins: 156, -396

World Location	Map Location

To the west of the Fort Ruins fast travel point is a good early game base location for ore farming with seven ore nodes that you can mine. Its small size and high elevation also make it easy to defend from raids.

However, the small size prevents you from adding large structures and expanding your base. You may want to use this location as a secondary base location purely for mining ore.

Behind Desolate Church: 72, -400

World Location	Map Location

There are a lot of ore nodes for mining in the spot right behind the Desolate Church. This area is a little bit larger than the location near the Fort Ruins, but since there are also more ore nodes and trees, there still isn't a lot of space to build other structures.

This location is also right next to the Desolate Church fast travel point. If you want to use your bases as additional fast travel points for more convenient traversal, this may not be the base location for you.

Southwest of Small Settlement: 8, -528

World Location	Map Location

This location southwest of the Small Settlement fast travel point has a wide, open area perfect for building a large-scale base. It also has a lot of ore nodes, so that you can easily craft Ingots using a furnace.

It's also far enough away from other fast travel points for it to be a convenient additional point. This area is highly recommended as a main base location.

Best Ore and Sulfur Farming Bases

South of the Foot of the Volcano: -341, 566

World Location	Map Location

This area located south of the Foot of the Volcano fast travel point is a good place to establish a sulfur and ore mining base. There are a few sulfur nodes in addition to ore nodes in this area.

However, take note that this is located near a volcanic area. You may need to equip heat-resistant armor such as the Tropical Outfit when travelling around the area.

South of Cinnamoth Forest: -77, -310

To the south of the Cinnamoth Forest fast travel point is an area with a lot of ore nodes. This large, flat land is another ideal space for a main base. There are also some sulfur nodes that you can find in nearby areas.

Sulfur is an important material to have if you use guns, since this is required to make gunpowder.

Best Skill Fruit Farming Bases

North of Cinnamoth Forest: -33, -171

World Location	Map Location

To the north of the Cinnamoth Forest fast travel point is an area with several ore nodes as well as Skill Fruits. Skill Fruits allow your Pals to learn the Active Skill corresponding to the fruit.

If you're interested in building up your Pals for combat, this may be an ideal base location. The only trouble you may have with this location is its sloped terrain, which might make it hard to place certain structures.

Best Coal Farming Base

Mount Obsidian: -571, -648

World Location	Map Location

This location can be found to the west of the Mount Obsidian Anubis Statue fast travel point. There are a lot of coal nodes in this area, and you can also find a Skill Fruit tree nearby.

However, this area is located in a hot climate region. Make sure to equip heat-resistant armor or place a Cooler in your base if you decide to stay here.

After the Ore bottleneck, Coal will be the next most important material to farm as you progress through the Technology Tree.

At one of the many peaks of the Verdant Brook, lies a location with a staggering amount of coal and ore deposits.

From the Sealed Realm of the Guardian fast travel point, ascend up the mountains to the east to reach this location.

Use Mining Focused Pals

With the amount of mineral deposits in the area, we recommend bringing a large number of pals to work here strictly for mining. The more mining Pals you have, the better the chances that they will work on mining the Coal deposits.

Avoid Pals that also are suited for logging to prevent them from logging the copious amount of trees in the area.

Have a Food-farming base to supply this base and do runs delivering food between each base by fast travelling.

Best Sulfur Farming Base

West of Mount Obsidian: -744, -442

World Location	Map Location

This location has seven Sulfur nodes near each other and four more nearby that you can manually mine. This base has limited space to build structures on as there are lava pools of the mining nodes.

Build walls around the base and the lava to prevent your Pals from being interrupted by other wild Pals or to prevent them from wandering into the lava pools in the area. You can also stop some Sulfur nodes from spawning by building a structure on top of them to prevent your mining Pals from walking to the more dangerous Sulfur mining nodes.

Best Chest Farming Base

Tower West of Icy Weasel Hill: -81, 193

World Location	Map Location

This location has four chests you can regularly open for randomized loot. The primary purpose of this base location is easy access to four chests in a high-level location that you can periodically open for rare or even Legendary Schematics.

These chests may spawn locked and require Gold Keys to open and drop better loot than usual.

Access to Materials

The primary reason you want to consider a base location is what materials you can farm from that base. Find spots where your Pals can farm multiple important materials like Wood, Stone, Paldium Fragments, and Ore in your base.

Set Up Farming Bases

Towards the Late Game, you should start to consider making Farming Bases for materials such as Ore, Coal, and Sulfur. These materials are commonly used when making late-game Weapons, Pal Accessories, and Armor.

Also, consider building bases in areas with no close fast travel points. Your base will also act as a fast travel point, so building bases can help you access harder-to-reach areas much easier.

Open Area

A good base spot allows you to have the space to build multiple structures. As you progress through the game and upgrade your base, you may need more space to build higher-tech structures.

Choke Points

Choke points will primarily help you defend your structures from raids. Having a choke point allows you to select what structures raiding enemies can deal damage to.

Build gates and walls to defend your Pals and structures that may have required precious materials.

An extra Buildable Base Slot is unlocked at Base Level 10, allowing you to build another Pal Box to establish another base.

Increase your Base Level by completing the Base Missions you can access by pressing the V key on a Pal Box (Y Button for the Xbox controller).
