How to Level Up Fast

Palworld - How to Level Up Fast.png

Level up fast with active and passive EXP farming methods for Palworld. Learn about how EXP bonuses, requirements, scaling, and how to level up Player EXP, and your Pals' EXP both in your Party and at your base, on any difficulty setting.

Things to Know First About EXP

How EXP is Gained

Basic EXP Gain Mechanics
  1. EXP for you and your Active Party are gained through activities such as defeating/capturing Pals and resource gathering.
  2. Your Player, as well as Pals in your Party, will gain EXP from the activities of your Base Pals only when at the Base.
  3. Pals in your Base will only gain EXP from the activities of your Base Pals.
  4. Pals in your Pal Box will not gain any EXP while in the Pal Box.
  5. Pals in your Party and Base can receive EXP even when Incapacitated (fainted).

The best way to level up you and your Party Pals fast is to farm EXP out in the open world through capturing Pals and taking advantage of the EXP bonuses.

The player and Pals can still benefit from EXP gains with time spent at a base through activities such as crafting and building. However, this typically offers less EXP than combat and open world exploration.

It is best to make use of the 10 capture bonuses at higher levels since EXP scales based on player level.

Player EXP requirements per level are the same for every playthrough and scale exponentially as the player level increases. The EXP requirements are huge at higher levels, notably those at the endgame levels 40-50.

World Settings EXP gain rate will not affect these numbers since they are fixed values. This option only affects how much EXP you gain.

• The above are tested in Hard difficulty. Pals caught before and at their 10th capture will give EXP bonuses scaled based on the player's level.
• The EXP growth scaling looks to be exponential in alignment with the player EXP requirements.
ⓘ Pals caught after the 10th time will give only little EXP in a similar amount to when defeated. In the case of the Tanzees and Lamball above, they provide only around 7 EXP without the bonus.

An exact formula for the EXP scaling is yet to be determined.

No matter your Player Level or world difficulty, catching each Pal up to 10 times is the best method for actively farming EXP.

Note that there is no specific “completion” bonus for catching exactly 10 of one Pal species; the wording in-game can be vague, but the EXP Bonus is nearly the same for each of the first 10 catches of each species.

• The above are tested in Casual difficulty. There is only a little difference in EXP bonuses when comparing regular Pals and Alpha Bosses.

The EXP Bonus is a massive boost gained regardless of the level of the enemy Pal. You can focus on low-level Pals first without worrying about low EXP gains.

Regular Pals and Alpha Bosses follow the same EXP Bonus pattern, regardless of their level.

• Bonus EXP gain is consistent despite changes in World Settings EXP gain rate.

EXP bonuses are unaffected by EXP gain rate changes in the World Settings, so while EXP gained elsewhere is different, the method of capturing 10 Pals remains an efficient method for farming even on Hard Difficultly.

Farm Different Pals By Resetting Dungeon Alphas

A Dungeon Alpha Pal will appear at the end of each Dungeon, accompanied by two or three Pals of the same species. You can reroll these Dungeon bosses by leaving the room, going down the previous hall, and returning.

Following this method, you can easily reroll the appearance of various Alpha Pal species (up to 18 different species) in the boss room. You can catch the smaller Pals, leave the room and return to reroll the Alpha, and new minions will spawn along with the new Alpha!

This method is convenient since you do not need to travel a lot. When farming these bosses, always make sure to keep an eye out on your resources and health, as well as your Pals.

By utilizing Training Manuals and Crystals, you and your Pal can significantly enhance your levels. Training Manuals can be acquired from chests in the Wildlife Sanctuary or Dungeon chests, and they are also dropped upon successfully defeating Bellanoir, a formidable Raid Boss.

Meanwhile, Training Crystals are exclusively dropped by the Bellanoir Raid Boss and are not currently available in the overworld.

Best Leveling Method for Base Pals

Farm Hundreds of Arrows

Technology Crafting Requirements
Palworld - Arrow Weapon Arrow Level: 3
Technology Points: 1 pt.

In the early game, you can set up an efficient way of farming EXP through autonomous arrow production.

Arrows take about 1.5 seconds to produce for a Pal with Handiwork Level 2 (i.e. Robinquill) at a High Quality Workbench, and produce 2 EXP for the Player and each Pal (on Normal, but varies by your Difficulty Settings) each time.

How to Craft Arrows and Stats

Gain Thousands of EXP Per Hour

# Pals EXP Yield
1 Pal Crafting Arrows 80 EXP per minute
2,400 EXP per hour*
4 Pals Crafting Arrows 320 EXP per minute
9,600 EXP per hour*

*Value given is based on the estimate that Pals work about half of the time.

While exploring, you can expect the following EXP results above from your base setup.

These results assume you are at Base Level 10, with 10 Pals available to work at the base. This method is still possible with a lower Base level, but the results will be lower accordingly.

  2. Place 3 Pals for Logging and 3 Pals for Mining
  3. Leave Your Base and Continue Playing
  4. Place Pals at Each of the 4 High Quality Workbenches
  5. Leave Your Base and Continue Playing
  6. Return to Your Base and Reset the Cycle

Start off by building a Stone Pit and a Logging Site for farming Wood and Stone. Make sure to have Pals with the Transporting Work Suitability to move these resources to storage.

Pals may sometimes have buggy transport behavior. Ensure your Pals have an unobstructed, direct access to storage by placing one Wooden Chest near the Logging Site and another beside the Stone Pit.

Should you ever need to move these resources manually, the chests should be placed near each other for easy access!

All Work Suitabilities Explained

2. Place 3 Pals for Logging and 3 Pals for Mining

Try to get Pals with higher levels in the Lumbering and Mining Work Suitabilities to boost the production of Wood and Stone. Having them ensures that you will quickly have enough resources for crafting arrows.

3. Leave Your Base and Continue Playing

At this point, you can go back to exploring the open world while resource production is onging at base until the next time you need to return. Always check that your Wood and Stone production are going smoothly before leaving the base.

Once you return after a while, you will find that several hundred resources have already been produced! You will be then ready to use these in crafting arrows.

4. Place Pals at Each of the 4 High Quality Workbenches

Main Pals Alternative Pal
Palworld - Robinquill Robinquill
Lv. 2
Palworld - Incineram Incineram
Lv. 2
Palworld - Lamball Lamball
Lv. 1

With the Wood and Stone farmed at base, line up production of Arrows on each of the High Quality Workbenches, dividing the maximum number you can make by 4 and assigning that number to each.

Take out 4 Pals with the Handiwork Work Suitability and assign each to one of the High Quality Workbenches.

4 Pals with Handiwork Level 2 like Robinquill and Incineram are needed to efficiently farm EXP from crafting. If you do not have those Pals, use Lv. 1 Handiwork Pals that won't accidentally start Logging or Mining, like Lamball.

5. Leave Your Base and Continue Playing

Once you have your Pals set to craft Arrows, feel free to do anything else or head out and explore while waiting for them complete their jobs.

Let your Pals assigned to resource gathering continue producing Wood and Stone. This batch of gathered resources will be the materials for the next cycle of Arrow crafting.

6. Return to Your Base and Reset the Cycle

After playing for some time, return to your Base and take all the Arrows. If these Arrows have not been already stored in Wooden Chests by your Pals, take the newly made Wood and Stone from the Logging Site and Stone Pit and put them in storage.

Afterwards, assign the crafting of a new batch of Arrows to get the next EXP farm started. Also, do not forget to have food in the Feed Box to maintain your Pals' Sanity and prevent unexpected lapses in production.

Continue this process to level up your Pals at the Base even while you're away!

How to Increase EXP Rate

Change in the World Settings

Palworld Increase EXP Rate.png

If you want to advance through the game quickly and are OK with sacrificing a bit of the experience, you can increase the EXP Rate directly by customizing the World Settings.

From the main menu, select World Settings before starting up the game, and increase EXP Rate as much as you like. It goes as high as 20x, much higher than Casual mode's 1.3x rate! You can change this any time, so it's possible to edit the EXP rate and speed up the leveling process on your existing game.

Thanks for noticing! You were correct, the values in the two cells were accidentally flipped. It has been corrected in the article! We will look into adding a table showing the bonus scaling over levels, appreciate the suggestion!
