It seemed like with Ham's flitting in and out of Zara's life he was doing just enough to keep her tethered to him and not letting her have a real chance at life. You knew at the start that Zara wanted Ham to give her a reason to let Greg go, instead he walked away. I hated that at that point he broke her heart.
I understood why Zara wanted to make sure that Ham was all right after his close call, but after Ham stormed back into her life I sort of wished that she hadn't make that call. I was torn at this point, because obviously Zara needed some help, but I hated how Ham rolled in and took over. His whole "we'll just be roommates/buddies" seemed like it was false and would be incredible awkward, because of their past. I also hated the drama that came up between them. At one point or another they were both at fault.
When Zara's past came out I was stunned, stunned at what she had to live through and how she was taken advantage of. It was here that Ham was finally able to win me over, mostly because he started to explain things. So much drama wouldn't have had to happen, because as much as actions do speak, Zara needed the words.
I did like how this one ended, loved that Zara got part of her family back and that all the drama was done for her and Ham.

WhilI'm really glad that I did a re-read of this series before reading this one. It helped when small things from the previous books were brought up.
While I was totally rooting for a Maud and Arland pairing, I liked that Maud was taking things slow, that she wanted to make sure that there was a place for her and Helen in House Krahr. Sure Maud had reason to be leery, but it was still smart for her especially considering how the vampires of this world are so fussy with politics and formality.
Maud seemed to surprise everyone in House Krahr in a good way. They really thought she was going to be a gold digger, but she had smarts and fighting skills. It wasn't long before Maud became and asset to them and helped them figure out what was going on. And then there was Helen, who was so stinking cute, even when she was being viscous, her mother's influence clearly showing.
I loved how this one ended, loved that Maud is letting herself be happy and finding a place to belong. But one has to wonder what will happen next with all that we learned of Maud, her background and special skills, then there is the visitor asking to see her. All sorts of stuff can happen from here and I look forward to reading about it!...more

But as she changed it wasShirleen has changed so much over the course of this series. At first I wasn't sure if I liked her, due to her life choices. But as she changed it was easy to see that she wanted more and she changed to get that. I especially loved that she picked Rome and Sniff and welcomed them into her life.
So while this book has a HEA for Shirleen it is just as much about a mother's love for her sons. I loved the scenes where Shirleen and the boys were stark real in their love for each other, how Shirleen realizes that she has more influence over them than she realized and they forged a family she always wanted.
Now to Shirleen's romance. I loved how Moses introduced himself to Shirleen, loved how he went slow with her, knowing that both of them wanted long term and real. But I think the best part of this was how the Hot Bunch were ever so protective of Shirleen. I loved that they wanted this for her, how they made sure Moses was a good guy and manipulated Shirleen to give Moses a chance....more

It also makes me want to go back to do a re-read of the series to see if I can find any hints of the events that have happened.
The whole book was leading up to the big battle between Leo and the European vamps. It was going to be dirty, messy and oh so much rested in the outcome. Leo, the smart man that he is, lined up his chess pieces, ie his people, like the master he is. I loved that they didn’t really see what was coming until it was all laid out. Loved that Jane realized it as it happened and had to give a nod to him. Loved that Leo acknowledged how much he changed in the last 3 years, silently acknowledging that it was Jane that changed him and it was for the better.
When the battle did start it was all civilized, which made me laugh. People had to sign up for the fights, there were announcements prior to the fights, then the combatants were finally able to fight, often to the death. I hated the hits that Jane and her allies took, hated the cost of those lives, but loved how they all came together as one. The final battle was especially hard, hard in who was fighting and why.
The aftermath of this book is brutal, so many good people lost, so many changed. Jane did what was needed for herself and those she loved and cared about. I hated how she rode out lone wolf, but understood her reasoning. I did love that there is the possibility of hope for her at the end, even if I have to wait for the next book to see how things turn out. ...more

There is something about Daisy that always makes you smile when you see her on the page. She's no nonsense, yet had a big heart and once she lets you in, you are hers forever!
I loved how Marcus decided that Daisy was his at first sight, I just wished that he had done something about it, that one last bad thing didn't have to happen to Daisy. I loved that once Marcus learned about the bad thing he did what he could for Daisy, sometimes little things, sometimes big things, but through it all he knew he needed to move slow because he was playing for keeps.
I loved that these two found their HEA and that it was made more spectacular with more additions to their family!...more

So many loose threads came back into play, along with some very long reaching plans that only a vampire who is alive for centuries could put into play.
Jane, as always, kicked ass! Jane and her team did a great job of keeping on top of things, slowly pulling at the strings, unraveling the plot one layer at a time. The battles were crazy, magic was mis-firing and at times I wondered if Jane could or would come out on top.
I hated that an old flame was back, messing with Jane's head, but she firmly put him in his place. Something that has been a long time coming!
It will be interesting to see what happens with the vamps going forward, so much changed in this one, especially right at the end....more

Dina really faced a lot of challenges in this book. Most of them she excelled at right away, but others not so much. I feel like her Inn should get extra notice for always being in these harrowing situations. She does what an Innkeeper is supposed to. It's great that she has people that can support her. I loved how her team grew with this book. While some of the new members will end up popping in and out another one has the potential to be around more. I find myself intrigued with both situations and can't wait to see what happens around the Inn from here....more

I will admit that I wasn't too sure about Deke at the start, he was a flat out dick to Justice and she deserved so much more! I think it was worse when we learned that he remembered Justice and still ignored her. I was glad that Justice kept being herself and created her home, surrounding herself with the great people of Carnal. I was a bit surprised that Krystal ended up being the woman that Justice bonded with first, that they became so close. But I loved the two of them and how they gave it to each other straight when they needed it.
Like I said I didn't care about Deke at the start. It really took me a while for Deke to win me over, but once he did I was rooting them on. I loved that once Deke went all in, he was all in, he held nothing back from Justice, even the bad. With Justice being such an open person she was exactly who Deke needed in his life. She lived in the moment, thankful for all the "bounty" she found in her life, whether it was something that cost a ton of money or something that cost nothing, to her it was all the same.
All the drama with Justice's family and those that she considered family I could have done without. I was glad that with each new event Justice did what she could to help her family, some of the time it was successful, sometimes not.
I loved the ending, loved that we got to see the memorial concert in Johnny Lonesome's honor. It was a great way to wrap things up and see how far all the characters came!...more

Granted we could see that things weren't as they seemed with Olivia, but still. With as long as Nick had been watching her you would have thought he would have seen some of that.

There were times I laughed, times I had tears in my eyes, times I was rolling my eyes at some of the antics.
There were so many times I wanted to slap Merry, too many times he had his head up his ass. I liked that Cher learned early to call Merry on his crap. I was glad too that they worked through their crap early and focused on building a new life. Better was how they included Ethan in things. I especially loved how Cher was with Ethan, Ethan knew he was loved, but had boundaries. There were some big situations that Cher had to be honest with a kid and Ethan handled those situations in a great way.
I was glad that everyone else got behind Cher and Merry as a couple. I especially loved Reichart's role.
The epilogue was great! Loved that we got a look at what was in store for all of these characters, but the best was Ethan's speech, a great way to honor a man who influenced him....more

But once the tapes came into play I really loved the format. Loved that we got to see what Tag thought about things, along with Millie and Moses thought.
I really liked that Moses was there every step of the way with Millie. It was funny to see how some of the info on the tapes made Moses uncomfortable, that he felt like he shouldn't know such intimate details.
As much as I liked Tag, I really loved Millie. Loved how down to earth she was and how matter of fact she was about her situation. Loved that she called Tag on his crap and how she wanted him, but didn't need him, something he had a hard time with.
It was great to see Tag with Millie, often he wasn't sure what to do with her. He liked her, but didn't want to. Tag was also so great with Henry. Loved that he got the sports talk and figured out what Henry was saying.
Once I realized why Tag disappeared I was so mad at him, mad that he didn't let his loved ones know and mad that he made such a stupid choice. I was happy that after that Tag wasn't given a choice, he had his "Tag Team" around him giving him all the support he needed.
There was so much good stuff about this book, but the best was the epilogue. I loved that we learned what happened to so many characters, but I wanted to know more with what happened to Tag. How much time did he get?...more

I thought this was going to be about Coert, but the character was named Tony. I kept waiting to for Coert to show up. When things finally became clear you realized how messed up things were and how Cady was going to get crushed at some point. For once I didn't like how the story would reveal things in the past, then go back to the present. It seemed like when we cut back to the present it was always in a spot where Cady was gutted.
When the past exploded on Cady I was glad that she found people that welcomed her in, that they gave her a safe place to lick her wounds and gave her a family that she sorely needed. It's too bad that those not in the family thought, including Coert.
I did find it funny how once Cady came to Magdalene Coert was the one that sought her out, sadly it was always to rip her a new one. It made me hate it a bit as he never gave Cady a chance to explain things. Once again Cady was able to fall back on her family for support. It was interesting how when that same family went to visit Coert and lay things out for him. Interesting how that seemed to change everything for Coert and he moves to change things right away.
This part of the book became fun, to see how Coert and Cady quickly put the past in the past, to move forward with their lives. They were so happy, everything was fun for them. Yes they seemed to speed ahead with things, but they had lost so many years.
The ending made me smile, loved how many HEA's there were and how we got caught up on the other characters in the series....more

I think I liked it because Amelia realized what she had done wrong in the past and set about to change it. Watching Amelia become a better person was fun. The things that she learned about herself was great, but even better was her realization of others that caused a lot of her issues. Yes she was at fault, but had others handled things Amelia wouldn't had gone off the rails.
I thought the romance between Amelia and Mickey was great! To say they had issues is an understatement. It was how they worked out those issues that made the book so much fun for readers. Most of the issues were stupid ones, ones that just needed talking about. It was the issue with the kids that really seemed like it could throw things off the rail. I liked how Amelia dealt with it. While harsh, it was the right move to make for all parties involved.
By the end of the book I was happy with the ending, loved that Amelia and her crew were all happy....more

Her closest relationships all seem to go through revelations. I love where things are headed with Bruiser, with the Younger brothers, things with Molly...hmmm not sure there. Molly seemed to step over a line or two, the sad thing is that I'm not sure she realized it. I feel like finally Jane and Leo have come to a place in their relationship where they can work together and not want to kill or control each other.
It will be interesting to see where things go from here....more

She always finds out and whatever he hides usually comes out leaving You would think by now that Leo would have learned not to keep things from Jane. She always finds out and whatever he hides usually comes out leaving Jane to clean up the mess and it is usually very messy! This time around is no different. What I did find funny was the levels to which Leo was hiding things. One secret would come out and Jane thought she was on top of things, until all hell would break and Jane would realize that there were more.
I did love how Derek, who is now a permanent member of Leo's crew, knew about some of the secrets and he and his guys were taking bets on what Jane would do when she found out. Some other betting going on became very interesting as well during sanctioned fighting that Jane did with some of Leo's higher ups. The consequences of that fight had some quick results that bode well for Jane, but what it will do to her reputation will be better long term.
Jane seemed to learn a lot about Beast with this one. You would think by now that she has learned all that they both can do, but Beast is a tricky creature. I have a feeling she won't sit back so quietly any longer.
Lastly, because he is a favorite, there was so much with Bruiser. I was a bit stunned when he declared in a very public way that Jane was going to be the most important person to him, over Leo. It was such fun to see Jane not really sure what was going on in the moment and to have to have thing explained to her. Bruiser going after Jane was very sweet, he is wooing her in an old fashion girly way, totally throwing Jane. It was nice to see Jane taking Bruiser seriously by telling him about Beast and her history. I think it helped a great deal when Bruiser got to met Beast up close and personal towards the end and Beast being Beast made an impression not to be forgotten....more

I wasn't too sure about Josie when this one started out. She was a bit cold and standoffish and the way that she talked, so odd. But as things went on with the book you realized that those were Josie's way of keeping people away and herself safe.
I liked seeing Josie slowly start to thaw out, that her speech slowly started to sprinkled with "normal" words. A bit part of how this happened was Jake. I really thought things were crystal clear with him, until towards the end, when you realized that Jake might not have been so sure of himself.
I loved how Josie inserted herself in the town and with Jake's kids. With her odd words, she managed to get across her ideas in a clear way and make an impact on the kids.
The ending was great, the perfect present for everyone!...more

I especially love how the Inn is a character in itself, how it can change according to what it's guest's need, love watching Dina work with the Inn. The one drawback is seeing Dina worry that her efforts won't be enough to keep Gertude Hunt thriving.
It was this last thing that influenced Dina to make a deal with a devil, George. When I realized that George was from The Edge series I was happy as they were one of the best parts of that series. It was interesting to see the kids grown up, yet still have so many characteristics I remembered. George is a tricky one, Dina did a good job at keeping up with him, even though at the first he got the better of her. I loved how Dina got back at George using the Inn making his stay a little less than pleasant due to the accessibility of the amenities.
I know I shouldn't have been laughing, but the summit made me. The groups were so different, each with their own agenda. Dina did a great job of trying so hard to be the host, yet got pulled into their crap. I loved it when the last straw was broken and Dina put all of them in their place with her show of power and a "Shame, Shame On You" speech.

I really liked the idea that they had, loved that they were writing this for fun, for them and for us fans.
I loved the idea of Innkeepers and their role in the world. I liked that Dina held her position in a reverent position, but was sad that she wasn't more busy, I wanted her house to have more.
I think that because Dina's history with her parents, her actions to save her world are predictable.
Sean made me laugh, mostly because he thought he was all that, but he soon learned he was but a babe in the world, so much he didn't have a clue about. Arland was interesting too, but more because of the knew knowledge that to Sean and Dina.
I was sort of sad to see how this one ended, but also glad, mostly because I don't know who I would have wanted to stay. I did love the quip that Arland reference about love triangles, werewolves, and vampires.
I hope that they authors keep writing in this series, there is so much that can happen at the inn and I want to read about it!...more
