This one had a hard time holding my attention, which makes me sad as the first 10 or so books I had read so many times my copies were falling apart. I made it to the end, was mostly glad to be done reading it. I also didn't realize that this was the last book in the whole series. I hated the ending and how ambiguous it was, hated that the Druids couldn't go out in a blaze of glory, more a whimper of our time is done and that is how it felt for so many of the characters....more

It was hard not to feel sorry for Reyn while reading this one. At the start it was because he was so lost, that he had no one to be there for him. LatIt was hard not to feel sorry for Reyn while reading this one. At the start it was because he was so lost, that he had no one to be there for him. Later it was because I hated how he was manipulated. By the end of the book I wasn't sure if he wasn't still being manipulated, this time by someone who had the ability to do some serious damage to him. We'll have to wait and see for future books to know for sure.
I sort of felt sorry for Paxton too. He seemed like he was lost, that people he needed to have in his life for a purpose weren't there, that he let them down. I do think with this last action he is finally on the right path....more
I miss the Oshmfords with this book, but their allies, the Leah's are well represented by Paxon Leah. I think he can measure of to so many of his ancestors. Paxon's sister, Chrys, on the other hand, is a whole lot of trouble, but she does remind me of one Leah ancestor, who kept pulling pranks, but wasn't always smart about it. I feel sorry for Chrys because she paid a high price for things she had not control over, her heritage. I'm glad that she was helped and can't remember it, but worry that it will come back to bit them all in the past. I worry too that Paxon will have to pay the price for it. It will be interesting to see what happens.
I do really like the choice that the Ard Rys made at the end. It was a hard choice to make, but the right one....more

The Shanara series was my first introduction to fantasy. I read the first one while in high school and loved it. But I am thinking that this series need to come to an end, especially as the author is starting to recycle his own story lines, not once, but twice. We once again need a new Elcrys and are back in the forbidding. I loved the first book with the Elcrys, was shocked to learn just what it to for the tree to be reborn, the second time around, not so much. The same can be said with the action in the forbidding. I will probably keep reading these books because after so many years I want to know how it ends, but I won’t be waiting for them like I used to....more

I liked how the pack was more family, but at times the drama within the pack and their fight for rank was too much. What really turned me off was the way the sex was portrayed in the book. I usually have a hard line where if there are human/animal couplings it turns me off and makes me quit reading. But for some reason I was compelled to keep reading....more

I also hated how Fiona wouldn't give Moira a chance to explain what happened as kids, to hear her side of what happened.
I did like learning more about the evil one and it surprised me who it was and why he is the evil one.

For me, so much of the fun of this series is watching how the families keep getting sucked back into these crusades generation after generation. The books so follow a formula, but seeing how these characters react to the events is what the books are all about for me.
This time around I find it interesting that the Ohmsfords are twin boys, both in love with a Leah girl. You know that won't end well. I am already resigned to have one of them die and I really don't want that, but can't see the author going the menage route.
I can't believe how oblivious Aphenglow is in regards to her body guard. Even with what happened in this book I have a feeling I know where things will go there.
It is interesting seeing Khyber as the head of the Druids. She has been around long enough that she seems more Druid than elf. She has definitely gotten herself in a bad spot, not sure how that is going to be resolved.
This book has set up the whole drama for this story line, while not resolving anything. Guess I will just have to wait for the next books to see how it all plays out....more
Like most people I had been waiting not so patiently for this book. I downloaded it right away on release day and then had to stay away from spoilers,Like most people I had been waiting not so patiently for this book. I downloaded it right away on release day and then had to stay away from spoilers, the few things that I did see were people saying the book was epic. It made me really excited, so as I listened to it I kept waiting for things to be epic, sadly for me it was average, more of bridge book and a lot of that had to do with Dani.
I knew going in that KMM was going to age Dani and I was intrigued to see how this was going to happen. It worked for me, but did leave me with lots of questions, and made me feel sorry for Dani and the girl she was. I do think there is hope for her yet, for the old Dani and the new Dani to be able to be one and have a happy life, but she isn't there yet.
I was glad there was more of Mac. There were parts with Mac that made me laugh, when she discovered a "sort of" new super power. It sure allowed her to go places and see things she never would have and learn things intimate things about the 9 that had me laughing. I did hate the small battles that Mac and Barrons got into, hated that Mac learned that Barrons knew more of her than she thought and kept it from her. Loved that Mac got to talk to beast Barrons and they worked out issues there. Mac's discovery at the end wasn't all that surprising to me as I expected something like that from the start. It will be interesting where things go from here.
One surprising part of the book that had me laughing was with Lor. I loved the bargain he made with Mac, but better was what he learned for Jo. I have a feeling things there aren't done....more
I don't really read a lot of books with Druids in them, so I was happy that they played a part in this book. I loved how innocent Glenna was. For her background she was very trusting. But from the start her interaction and connection with Conall was there from the start. I loved seeing them fall slowly, learn about each other, their past, and then be able to come to terms with it all.
I loved the secret family histories and I don't think that we have learned all the secrets yet. I have a couple more theories on Fiona, I can't wait to see if they come out....more
