The first, Elena and her father. To say that their relationship has been difficult is an understatement. But with this book, they actually talk about the past and find a way to put things to rest and carve out a good relationship going forward. The same can be said for her stepmother and sisters. It's nice to see, they all need each other.
The other issue is the unrest in the angel world, which looks to be disasters at first glance, but ends up being so much more! It's crazy what they learned and who they learned it from. By really working together they were able to fix things, just in time. Now hopefully they can get their time of peace and just be....more

Yet it took me 4 days to read this one, when I normally would be done in 1. Not sure what was going on. I liked the story, but seemed to only read 100 pages before wanting to put the book down.
At the heart of this one is 2 organizations that are trying to work together, yet very distrustful of each other. DART, the demon organization and the Aegis, humans who seem to hate demons and lie and twist things to tell the tale they want, not what really happened. Our familiar characters know how the Aegis is, and so many of them are at DART, so I don't get why they expected things to be on the up and up with the exchange of people.
It seems like the Aegis, didn't really pick all of their best people, because the one guy was a douche from the start and even his other people kept yelling at him. It didn't surprise me at all to find out he was right in the middle of things when they went south and even started things by an over reaction. From there things just snowballed like crazy!
I didn't blame Draven for what he did in a way, he lost his love, over something stupid, and his demon nature kinda took over. It sucks that he killed innocent people, it should have only been the one douche. Him hooking up with Lilith really pushed things over the top.
As all of this was happening, Logan and Eva had quite the attraction. It was interesting to see how things went there. Eva hated demons, Logan is part demon and when that came out, it wasn't pretty. But by then Eva knew Logan and knew he wasn't evil, he helped her with her demon and the whole tattoo thing. That was beyond crazy when it all came out what it was and how people in Eva's life didn't mind using her if they benefited, despite how it left her life. These two managed to work things out by the end, but if was iffy. Logan learned somethings about his family that was hard, Eva learned how much she had been betrayed by her family and the Aegis.
It wasn't just on earth that things were crazy! In heaven Reaver and Harvester were in the middle of a shit storm, one in which Harvester took drastic action, which ended up being so good, as it saved 2 people, but we are still left wondering where she is and if she will be all right and that doesn't even touch on how things are for Reaver. We'll have to wait for the next book to find out so much of what was left hanging in this one....more

So I knew going into to it, it was going to be a "big" book for the series. I also was aware of the time jump, but sort of forgot about it, until it happened and I sure didn't expect it to happen in the last pages of the book. But before you get to there, there was a lot of other stuff going on.
I hate that the Lessors are back, hate more that Lash and Devina have hooked up and all the destruction they have wreaked on the Brotherhood, the bomb the most important. I keep waiting for either or both to get theirs, to die in some horrible way, yet not so much. I guess there is always the next book.
I liked that Lassiter found love, but it wasn't easy and there were some big issues that had to be worked out between he and Raven. I loved how Raven was welcomed into the group and how the ladies were so great to her during the mating ceremony! It made her hard decision later much easier to make.
And holy cow....Wrath! Not much to say there other than thank goodness Raven peaked ahead. While there was an immediate sadness, it was only for a couple decades. I loved the homecoming scenes, only matched by how ferocious the proclamation was from Beth and Raven of what would be done in the aftermath. I do wish we had more with everyone learned the secret, would love to see all the Brothers reactions, along with Fritz!...more

The Brothers know something is up, but they can't put their finger on it, but are very unsettled and even put out the danger signal at one time. The little they do learn just causes that unease to ramp up.
I was glad with how things ended for Balthazar and Erika, but they really went through it to get there. Part of me wishes Erika would give up her human life, I really want her and Butch to talk shop and for Erika to have those clicking moments with things she's seen at the police department but now know there is more out there.
I feel really bad for Lasiter. He gave up so much when he took one for the team and things really don't look good for him.
Overall things don't look good for many in Caldwell, it will be interesting to see where things go from here....more

I was intrigued about this one when I learned about it, hoped it would be as good as the early Anita books. Now that I'm done reading it...I find it's ok. I went the audio book route to read this one and had it not had one of my favorite narrators and I been in the car for 3 1/2 hours, I probably would have dnf'ed this one.
At first I wanted more info with the Angels and Angel Speakers, like Zaniel. It came later as we met friends Zaniel had when he was at the College of Angels. We also learn that this organization maybe isn't as benevolent as they want people to see it as. There are quite a few issues that aren't good brought up. Maybe the one good thing about it was the close friendship that Zaniel was able to build with 2 others, one who was kicked out and left to flounder, one who was still in and possibly could be doing horrible things. It is interesting to see the difference between all 3 of them and how their lives have gone.
Zaniel's work with the police was interesting. I liked learning more about his squad and how different they were, a Voodoo Practitioner, a Witch, a Null and I'm sure there are others. They didn't have issues with how others worshiped or practiced, but they worked together on their cases when there were paranormal aspects. The Captain especially seemed very smart in that he knew his people and used them to their strengths. The case they worked seemed a bit too "big" for them, getting beat down at each turn and things not really doing what they were supposed to, yet that didn't stop them all form working as hard as they could to defeat the demon and make things safe again.
Zaniel's personal life is a hot mess. I think part of that is due to how he was raised, part due to the person he choose to spend his life with. Reggie didn't come off as good to me, I got whiplash for all the about faces she makes. At times it seems like she has great disdain for Zaniel, others maybe he's better than what else she has found out there. Either way Zaniel deserves better than being jerked around by this woman, especially when they have a child in the mix. It was interesting to see all the advice that Zaniel got from his co-workers, good advice that he at times repeated back to Reggie, often making her think.
As this is a first book in the series, I'm willing to check out the next book, but it will be a make or break book for me....more

I know Chase has been portrayed as a player, along with Cooper, but he stopped on a dime when he really say Brynn as a woman, that I could buy and they were really cute as a couple. What really pissed me off was how Cooper was to Chase and how the rest of the family was to Chase. Chase had been around all of them since he was 5 years old, they should know him and realize he was serious. I wanted Chase to be more outraged at that, but then again with how his parents were he couldn't expect more/better from the Miles clan.

I was also worried about Illium and Aodhan, thought maybe they might become a couple, wondered how that would be as they have been friends for so long and were currently in an "outs" situation. I really shouldn't have feared because Nalini did great by both of them.
I loved how the book was set up, flashes into the past as Illium and Aodhan were wee little angels and just becoming friends, how they would often egg each other on, how they cheered each others triumphs, best friends. Always there for each other until Aodhan was taken and had issues in the aftermath pushing Illium away.
Each past flash was set with what was happening in the present, the two of them having to work together to help the territory in China have a chance at success for the future. Things in the present weren't pretty, there were a lot of sharp words spoken to each other as they worked things out. But you could tell that both were remembering all the time they had in the past as best friends. With distance they were able to see things a bit different and see what was perceived as a hurt wasn't, just a way to reach out.
In the end it seems like Illium and Aodhan will end up a couple, something that seemed to dumbfound them both. They never considered it, so when they did it took both by surprise, yet not. Their shared past is so much it makes sense and you wonder how we all didn't see it coming a long time ago.
On a side note, I worry about the child that Illium and Aodhan found, not sure there is a chance at redemption there....more

I liked the first one, listened to it in audio, kept me on the edge of my seat and often I found myself finding other things to do around the house so I could keep the book going. I would have like to listen to this one too, but there didn't seem to be that option, I even c contacted the author, but didn't hear anything back. Reading this one was a slog, I wasn't even sure if I would finish it. It took me 3 days to read 60 pages, when the whole book should have take me 4 hours. I finally forced myself to read 2 chapters at a time, the would switch to a different book. This helped and finally things got more interesting.
I feel for Gabe and Remi, they have been thrown into this situation with very little info or people to really help them, not just make it seem like they help. Those that are there to help, it's iffy if they truly are helping. And for every step forward they seem to take about 5 steps back. There were some great things, like the cowboy that helped get the bike back, he is the type the guys need more of, someone that genuinely wants to help. I was iffy on the Jack the Ripper correlations and in the end that ended up being a pile of mess. I really feel for Remi because he seemed to be taken with a certain someone, someone who really threw a wrench in things at the end.
Most of what this book did for me was make me realize that Remi and Gabe have only each other to really depend on and they better wise up to that really fast....more

You sort of have to go with things and plow through all the info that comes about this world. It sort of is an info dump, but doesn't come off that way because Grandaddy is explaining to Gabe and Remy their new normal. You find yourself just as confused as Gabe and Remy as they learn things and encounter and fight evil. The dynamic between Gabe and Remy is interesting, you get the feeling that if they were not thrown together like this they would not give the other 5 minutes, yet they do work together despite being so different. Often times after they learned what was going on they managed to blunder their way through and kill demons by sheer luck. I have a feeling things will get better for them and look forward to reading the next book to see where they go from here....more

There are a few story lines happening and they don't seem connected at all. It isn't til you get to the end that you see that isn't true. So while I liked this one, those things made it hard to keep what was going on straight in your head at times. I also am not sure how I feel about all these mysterious, never talked about characters showing up, who have connections to the BDB. Sure we need new characters to keep the series going, but the two characters that do pop up seem to have been significant in the past.
Now with all that said, I do like Sahvage and Mae, liked how their story evolved and how by the end they could be happy together. Liked how Sahvage was welcomed back and the family he found.
I'm intrigued by Lassiter and what he saw and didn't see, although the what he didn't see is more intriguing. I wasn't sure about Balthazar, until he became smitten with the cop. As I started to listen to this one I was excited, I love Blue Bell, so happy to see more of his mom. While things were not always great with the two of them in the past, Sharine was trying and getting stronger every day. I liked how she changed in this book, how she went form just the Hummingbird, renowned for her art to so much more as she remembered more of her past and decided the person/angel she wanted to be.
Titus on the other hand I wasn't sure of. He didn't come off very good at the start. I loved how Sharine flipped him shit all the time at the start, he really needed someone who would not take his crap and call him on his shit. But as things went on and both started to develop feelings I found myself hoping things would work out for them. I think they had a chance, they were different enough that they would keep each other interested and still enjoy the differences. They were able to take care of Titus's territory despite finding horrible things and able to lean on each for solace.
I loved the ending, loved that both pledged to the other and that Sharine could face someone who hurt her and send him packing, made even better because Titus was there watching....more

As I read it I thought...sure, like you are really going to surprise me. Well...I can say that after reading this one she did.
This book quickly went to where I didn't think it would when it killed one of the core characters, one of the Sem brothers. I was shocked to say the least, then was ideas that he wasn't really dead, then he was, but in the end he was alive, thank goodness, but that came only in the last few pages of the book.
Then there was the drama that happened around Azagoth and Lilliana. What was done to Lilliana was horrible and I hated that she had to face something a mother should never have to. Due to Lilliana's fate I totally understood Azagoth burning down his world and everything he knew in it. He made sure that those important to him were safe, but then all bets were off. He was going to get revenge for Lilliana and didn't care if he lived or died and be damned what happened while he did this.
By the end of the book the world had changed greatly, but our characters stuck to their guns and did what they thought was right. Sure some of them paid a price, a big price, for their actions but they have centuries before the final days. I also find I'm really excited for the spin off series, one set 300 years from now. It will be interesting to see how the characters from this series impact that one....more
