I did read it in one sitting, but had I not been getting my hair done and unable to move I would have had to break it up. I found our couple to be beyond boring. The only half way interesting parts was when Tess thought out of the box and pulled a gun on her sadistic trainer, surprising the hell out of him and those watching. I did like when Tess out maneuvered the djinn to, especially when she was so sneaky about it. It remains to be seen if she can use that info or not though.

Sophie made me laugh with her independent ways, even as sometimes I got annoyed with the same spats she got into with Nikolas. I felt for Nikolas and his guys, the situation they were in. Since he was "old" the spats that he and Sophie got in did make sense.
I loved Sophie's willingness to help Nikolas and the guys and how she cared for Robin. She could have taken then for a lot more, but instead she took what was fair. I liked how this one ended, how they found a way to connect to those back home and a way to fight against those that have been hurting them for so many years.

I found it interested to learn that Tyler owned The Pit, but loved how Levi came to Tyler for help. I was glad that helping Levi kept Tyler in town. I found myself laughing when the main action went down, mostly due to where it happened.
I did love the call that Raif made to Tyler about Darian, the words needed to be said and I'm glad it caused Tyler to re-think things. It's just too bad about the call at the end, because I don't think it was Darian that called.

I liked Lex, wanted to know more of her background, like what the farm meant to her, why she was the way she was and why the dig seemed to randomly follow her and more importantly, listened to her.
What feel flat for me was the case that Lex was working. It took her all over, had her run into so many different things/people, all of whom were out to get her and cause mayhem on the world. At the end there was this big fight, prices were paid, yet it all went away with a wish, seemed too pat for me.
I'm not sure if this one is the first in a new series, if so, I won't continue it, there just wasn't enough here that I liked to keep going....more

These characters are first introduced in the anthology Carniepunk.
The world this series was set in was fun, so many different paranormals, all out in the world. I really liked that there was a police force that was staffed with their own and policing their own.
Shiloh was interesting, I liked that she was a half djinn, which made her unique to understand both worlds. The team that she worked with seemed close, a good and bad thing. Good because it helped them get the bad guy, bad because bad things happened to some characters and it's hard when they are your friends.
I liked how Shiloh figured things out, how she used those around her to help get to the bottom of things and how she often would put herself at risk to save others.
I look forward to reading more in this series, to see where Shiloh goes and how new relationships evolve for her....more

Part of it might be because I'm not a big fan of Morgan le Fae /Avalon and what goes with that mythology.
I did feel bad for Morgan and the situation that he was in. I would hate to be trapped like that. I loved that Morgan found ways to fight back, even if it was small ways.
Sidonie really took things in stride, especially when all she valued was taken from her. I think had Morgan not righted things, things might have been different. It was easy to see how Sidonie trusted Morgan, she needed someone to trust. The way the two of them worked to foil Isabeau was tenuous, mostly because Morgan was in hiding.
When things came to a head they exploded spectacularly. Sidonie did the only that she could have and later found a way to make the best of a bad situation.
I liked how things ended for this couple, they are on a good start to a new life, one which will be happy....more

She has found great friends and a place that feels like home, something that as a foundling she lacked in the Dragon Realm.
The cases that the group worked were interesting. I especially liked the one with Mary the ghost. I was glad that they were able to help her find her peace. The other case was disturbing, mostly because of how the bad guys were able to get control.
The relationship dynamics between Shimmer and Alex made me smile. I liked how Alex kept pushing Shimmer for more and how Shimmer reacted to the pushes. ...more

Cold Case by Jim Butcher - Molly is a character that has been through so much through out this series. It finally seems like she is settling into her skin. Sadly during this story Molly is firmly put in her place and I finally feel a bit sorry for her. I really hope that she can find her way clear.
Sleepover by Seanan McGuire - This story really highlights how an ex can really screw you over once the relationship is done. I loved Elsie let her ex know, enough is enough.
If Wishes Were by Tanya Huff - I really liked the Vicki Nelson series, was sad when it was over. So seeing that this short featured her made me happy. Vicki did her thing, loved how she beat her foe, but what interested me was her feelings about her relationship with Mike. So much is changing and soon the relationship will probably end up gutting her due to it's natural progression....more

I found it funny that Dragos managed to find out what was going on first. The how of finding out had me laughing, because really only Dragos would find trouble like that while shopping.
I think the highlight of this one was Liam and the new one. Liam's reaction was great, but better was when Pia finally got to see the new one. That one is going to be a bundle of trouble!...more

We needed to know what happened in the past to Beluviel and Graydon, why they could only moon over each other and the secret that they were hiding. Things only picked up when the past and the secret came out. It was nice to see all the Elder Races come together to go after a truly evil person. The battle that came next was great, but like all battles there are big prices that need to be paid, leaving a pall over the end of the book. Even with the sad ending I do find myself intrigued by the challenge that Liam will be facing. I have a feeling that he will surprise the heck out of everyone....more

I liked that we got to see Dragos and Pia in a mommy/daddy moment fawning over Liam. Pia's realization was great, better was how she blurted it out and Dragos' reaction, which lead us to some very steamy scenes.
Things in DC went about how I thought, lots of political intrigue, people taking advantage of the situation to further their own agenda and Dragos and Pia thwarting it all. I loved the surprise at the end that Pia and Dragos found out. It will be fun to see how everyone else takes it....more

I really like Shimmer. She seems to have gotten the shaft in the Dragon Realm, but not as bad as she could have. I have a feeling that at some point we will learn more about Shimmer's heritage and it will be big. In the mean time I like the new family that Shimmer seems to be building around her and how she is fitting in earthside.
The case that Shimmer ends up working on was crazy. At first glance it seemed fairly upfront, but nothing could be further from the truth. At one time of another everyone is in danger, no matter how powerful of a Supe they are. I loved that at one point how Shimmer and Ralph have to save Alex, him being clueless until he could "wake" up. Even the locals that they pulled in were a good fit for the group, each bringing their own specialty.
I was glad to see this one end in a good way for everyone. I have a feeling that Tanya and a certain spiritwalker will start something, that Patrick's B&B will be a big success and that Shimmer is only just started some great things at Fly by Night....more

Melly was a surprise. I liked how she reacted to her capture, loved how she didn't let herself be a victim, but went about saving herself, even going so far as to out smart the bad guy and Julian.
I liked how Melly and Julian worked out their issues, that they actually talked about things and figured them out. From there is was great to see them team up to fix things within the vampires. I did find it funny how Theirry and Sarah were at a party with so many vampires from Theirry's past. Some of them were friends, others not so much. I loved how things quickly devolved to a "who-done-it". At first there wasn't a clear suspect, however it clearly changed, the person surprising me, along with their motive. I thought that Sarah did a great job of thinking on her feet to thwart the bad guy time and time again, but the last time was the best yet. Karma, she is a bitch sometimes....more

After finishing the book I realized that the start needed to be slow, we needed to know how the world worked in this book, the creatures and how a Menagerie is normal. This slow build allowed you to be infuriated about what happened to Delilah, to continue to be infuriated how Delilah was treated and how the others in the Menagerie were treated.
The last 100 pages of the book is where things picked up for me. I loved the plan that Delilah came up with, loved that Delilah found some allies, but really loved the coup at the end.
