The GS Ball is an item introduced in Pokémon Crystal Version
Effect[]
The GS Ball is a special type of Poké Ball and a key item in Pokémon Crystal Version. Unlike other Poké Balls, its purpose is not to capture any Pokémon, but rather to summon a level 30 Celebi at the Ilex Forest shrine. Before doing so, the player has to take the GS Ball to Kurt in Azalea Town and have him analyze it for a day and then take the GS Ball back from him.
Description[]
The GS Ball has many references to Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version despite appearing in neither game. The upper part of the GS Ball is golden and the lower part is silver. The letters "GS" on both the front of the GS Ball and in its title is short for "Gold" and "Silver," something that had been officially confirmed by Masamitsu Hidaka.
In the original Pokémon Crystal Version, the GS Ball could only be obtained legitimately in the Japanese versions by receiving it from a nurse in the Pokémon Communication Center during a Mobile System GB event, which has been discontinued. While the GS Ball does exist in regional releases, it is not legitimately obtainable without the use of a cheating device, because an official event for obtaining the GS Ball had never been held outside of Japan.
For the Virtual Console port of Pokémon Crystal Version, the GS Ball can be obtained in any region and eliminates the need of obtaining it through either a special event or a cheating device. In Japanese releases, the GS Ball can be obtained in the Pokémon Communication Center as before, but only after entering the Hall of Fame. In other regions, the GS Ball is obtained in the Goldenrod City Pokémon Center, which was originally planned in the original non-Japanese releases, but the player still has to have entered the Hall of Fame beforehand.
