Most discussions around Blockchain/Web3 are always focused on BTC/ETH #ETF, #DeFi, #L1/L2/L3 for quick returns, leading to an over-saturation of unused infrastructure and many dying projects. Not much attention is given to the relevance of #Web3 and the Creator Economy. (Some of this information you might already know) Web1 > Web2 > Web3 represents a new era as technology advances and new user behaviors are influenced by increasingly sophisticated tools. The creator economy is marked by progressive changes or states in each era: - Web1 (30+ years ago): Businesses (Centralized) Content = Where static content created by a small number of producers (e.g., big companies) was the initial opportunity for creators. - Web2 (started 20+ years ago): User-Generated Content (as Gen X and Y wanted to be heard) on centralized platforms revolutionized the business model and spurred the growth of the creator economy. - Web3 (believed to come): Commoditizing User-Generated Content on Decentralized platforms. Gen Z (asking "Why should my data/creation be sold and I get only a fraction?") is leading to the robust acceleration of the next creator economy and innovative business models. Core Technologies in the Next Wave of the Web3 <> Creator Economy:- 1. Social Media/Content/Streaming Platforms ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 2. Digital Marketing Tools ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) (maturing tech with killer use cases) 4. Blockchain Technologies (yet to mature and need killer use cases) But #Blockchain is the only technology that facilitates the most important aspect—commoditizing user creation. There's a growing debate & calls to focus on driving innovative use cases and killer apps, but progress is hindered due to the extreme difficulty of development without a good suite of interconnected tools (as we ourselves experience every day). *Try to hire developers to develop non-#EVM chain, and you will need a lot of luck. Central banks are developing the next iteration of money, they're called Central Bank Digital Currencies or #CBDCs. Despite championing decentralisation, some crypto leaders are openly helping develop CBDCs. CBDCs are a nightmare for privacy, freedoms and basic civil rights, as they come with invasive capabilities. The thing is, we don't need CBDCs for fast, low-fee, accessible transactions for all. Congratulations to Zach Abrams and the whole Bridge team for this massive achievement! This acquisition of Bridge by Stripe tells us an important story: (1) Stablecoins have PMF as a global disintermediation tool and payment companies are noticing. The stablecoins' PMF is due to the simple value prop for global payments: efficient, low-latency cross-border transactions without the need for traditional correspondent banking, where payment companies to integrate stablecoin solutions to tap into large centralized and decentralized liquidity & settlement networks. (2) Building regulated crypto fintech infrastructure is extremely hard even for large companies. Complying with money custody & transmission regulations is highly challenging—even for large corporations—due to complex fragmented regulatory requirements across the US, EU, APAC, and MENA. Satisfying those regulatory requirements represent a massive investment across compliance, legal, operations, security, and engineering. (3) Partnerships with US banking institutions are the key to unlock the global stablecoin-based economy. In order to provide efficient and powerful onramps and offramps, crypto companies are required to operate FBO (For Benefit Of) accounts with banking institutions that are cautious about crypto assets and demand rigorous adherence to KYC/AML and ledgering reconciliation standards - as they should. (4) The race for lower cross-border transaction fees is entering a new era. Stablecoins push the fees to more efficient and liquid local FX markets with near-real time settlements between them, accelerating the competition to lower cross-border transaction fees. We're about to see a ton of activity around stablecoins from every payment company in the world, at the risk of being left behind. Today is an inflection point for Breakout with the announcement of our $4.5m venture growth round led by the experienced team at RockawayX with participation from Mechanism, Round13, CSquared, IOBC, and Mentat Group. Operationally, we’ve accomplished one of the hardest feats — going zero to one. We currently have over 5,000 traders that have collectively traded over $12B in notional volume and we’re growing exponentially. I often get asked what it’s like to run a startup and many times I don’t even know where to begin. Startups are HARD. I won’t get into the minutiae but after 4 startups and 16 years, the biggest takeaway for me has been that in order to succeed, you have to mentally overcome the fact that successful startups need to fall forward and constantly navigate unique obstacles without allowing any one of those obstacles to paralyze the company. This is a constant battle that is unachievable without a resilient team that all share the same mindset and entrepreneurial drive. There's a lot of buzz about stablecoins in the fintech community right now. But we're just scratching the surface of what fintechs will achieve. If the opinions of this cohort of leaders are anything to go by, stablecoins are back on the agenda. In this report, we spoke to leaders at different points in the payments value chain: stablecoin issuers like Paxos, embedded banking providers like ClearBank, B2B payments fintechs like Freemarket and VCs like General Catalyst. We asked: how are you thinking about stablecoins and what progress will be made this year? Here are a few things they told us: - Market timing is a challenge we need regulators, banks and governments to come on board. But with stablecoins we’ll find the next category-defining business. - Traditional financial institutions (FIs) are experimenting. When they see clear ROI, they’ll start rolling out stablecoin rails to other countries – this will be a pivotal moment for market readiness. - Stablecoins will reach a market cap of $250bn by the end of 2024, growing 2-3x the pace of the crypto market overall. - Providers with the right licences will be in a stronger position to launch stablecoin products and offer those to other FIs. - By the end of 2024 we’ll see some marquee partnerships where traditional fintechs are launching a full stablecoin solution, wallets pay-ins and payouts.
