Yesterday, I moderated a Salad Ventures panel in Singapore with top minds in Web3: Chris Sirise of Pixelmon/MON Protocol, Alex Svanevik of Nansen, and TN of Pendle. We discussed the secrets to building thriving Web3 communities. We began with Pudgy Penguins strategy of prioritising quality over quantity, fostering deep engagement and loyalty. Emotional connections and storytelling are key. Next, we tackled community airdrops. While they boost sentiment, they can attract freeloaders. The panel emphasised rewarding genuine participation and contributions to foster a committed user base. A heated debate followed on linear vs. performance-based airdrop vesting. The consensus was performance-based vesting, aligning incentives with the project’s success and promoting a healthier ecosystem. Reviving engagement after negative price action is challenging but possible with consistent communication, transparency, and delivering real value. Building trust and showcasing potential are crucial. Monetizing without appearing greedy involves providing value first and monetizing second. This approach builds genuine relationships and a sustainable revenue model. From an investment perspective, engagement over scale is vital. Highly engaged small communities often outperform larger, disengaged ones. Quality trumps quantity. Key takeaways: 1. Native Yield for BTC will be a huge narrative in H2 2024. 2. Building a community one relationship at a time is the most effective strategy. 3. Market traction is crucial for small projects. 4. It’s often easier to build new than revive a failed project. 5. This is a thread of RWA tokenization worth some attention as it's focused on the value of starting the tokenization process in parallel with the creation of the asset creating some interesting synergies. Particularly in context of some of the work companies like Inveniam and LV8RLABS are doing to create a virtual data room instrumented day one of the project to birth the digital twin in concert with its real world sibling.

What Drives Stablecoin Growth? Source: https://lnkd.in/g4JeExHJ #driver #stablecoin #growth #cryptoassets #digitalassets #payments Credits: Lambis Dionysopoulos Dr Miriam Marra Andrew Urquhart Highlights: Stablecoins have emerged as a pivotal development within the blockchain domain, attracting regulatory scrutiny and a huge amount of interest from investors who aim to navigate the digital asset ecoysystem. Despite their critical role, our understanding of one of their fundamental attributes – their growth – remains limited. Our analysis, first and foremost, illuminates this area while challenging prevailing assumptions, demonstrating for the first time that profits from reserves are a key driver of stablecoin growth. We also showcase some substitutability effects between stablecoins. Our findings carry substantial implications. 1. If stablecoin growth is indeed fuelled by higher issuer profits, this calls into question the exact mechanism through which this occurs. We provide a possible explanation through the indirect substitution of providers. Specifically, all custodian stablecoins in our sample have ties with their respective cryptocurrency exchanges. These exchanges often offer products and services that pay interest on their stablecoins. The paid interest may come from the profit stablecoin providers generate through interest earned on reserves. 2. Our work has implications for the emergent CBDCs. Given their utility proximity with stablecoins, it is important to understand how they might affect the stablecoins ecosystem. We argue that in the absence of convenience yields for holding stablecoins, CBDCs may replace stablecoins as safer and more stable versions of the same. However, the level of replacement depends also on other issues: level of privacy, utility in DeFi and other aspects of blockchain, and interest-bearing nature of CBDCs. Further research should therefore investigate the implications of CBDCs for stablecoin providers (depending on the CBDC design and functionality) and how stablecoin providers may transition to become CBDC providers. 3. We highlight the substitution dynamics between stablecoins, potentially stemming from barriers to entry/exit. Specifically, we articulate how higher fees for USDT redemption may incentivise USDT holders to redeem their holdings through other stablecoins. If so, this could lead to USDC/BUSD and other custodial stablecoin holders demanding a premium when exchanging their stablecoins for USDT, due to the easier redemption. We also underscore concerns about Tether’s capability to redeem USDT without relying on other providers and question the sustainability of other stablecoin providers in redeeming USDT holders’ coins, given the substantial differences in reserve sizes. Standardisation and regulation can mitigate these issues, in addition to the market forces and practice.

This is by far the best crypto presentation I’ve seen in a while- In Murad Mahmudov's refreshingly candid talk at TOKEN2049 last month, he slams major #crypto projects, #VCs and #influencers implying that they are a collective scam operation that push narratives on projects that in fact have no real #economic value, list altcoins on exchanges when they are massively overvalued and then dump them on unsuspecting retail investors. Instead he makes the point that the token IS the product, not the software- and hence #memecoins are far better investments than VC-funded crypto projects because they are truly democratic and enable retail investors to get rich Most intriguingly, he makes the case that memecoins will actually replace #religion in the long term- by providing a sense of shared values, community and belonging that religion used to provide, but is now waning especially in the western world Worth a watch. Visa tokenization platform helps banks issue fiat-backed tokens. helping to bridge existing fiat currencies with blockchains through the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform (VTAP), a new product designed to help financial institutions issue and manage fiat-backed tokens on blockchain networks. The VTAP solution is available on the Visa Developer Platform for participating financial institution partners, to create and experiment with their own fiat-backed tokens in a VTAP sandbox. Visa has a global network of more than 15,000 financial institutions and helps facilitate seamless transactions of fiat currencies across more than 200 countries and territories. Now, Visa is applying its expertise in new technologies, such as smart contracts, to enable banks to issue and transfer fiat-backed tokens over blockchain networks. Most discussions around Blockchain/Web3 are always focused on BTC/ETH #ETF, #DeFi, #L1/L2/L3 for quick returns, leading to an over-saturation of unused infrastructure and many dying projects. Not much attention is given to the relevance of #Web3 and the Creator Economy. (Some of this information you might already know) Web1 > Web2 > Web3 represents a new era as technology advances and new user behaviors are influenced by increasingly sophisticated tools. The creator economy is marked by progressive changes or states in each era: - Web1 (30+ years ago): Businesses (Centralized) Content = Where static content created by a small number of producers (e.g., big companies) was the initial opportunity for creators. - Web2 (started 20+ years ago): User-Generated Content (as Gen X and Y wanted to be heard) on centralized platforms revolutionized the business model and spurred the growth of the creator economy. - Web3 (believed to come): Commoditizing User-Generated Content on Decentralized platforms. Gen Z (asking "Why should my data/creation be sold and I get only a fraction?") is leading to the robust acceleration of the next creator economy and innovative business models. Core Technologies in the Next Wave of the Web3 <> Creator Economy:- 1. Social Media/Content/Streaming Platforms ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 2. Digital Marketing Tools ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) (maturing tech with killer use cases) 4. Blockchain Technologies (yet to mature and need killer use cases) But #Blockchain is the only technology that facilitates the most important aspect—commoditizing user creation. There's a growing debate & calls to focus on driving innovative use cases and killer apps, but progress is hindered due to the extreme difficulty of development without a good suite of interconnected tools (as we ourselves experience every day). *Try to hire developers to develop non-#EVM chain, and you will need a lot of luck.
