The Hedge Maze is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Hedge Maze's icon takes the form of green pillar-like vines wrapping around each other and with five/four-petaled white, pink and violet flowers blossoming on them. In gameplay, this power-up becomes the aforementioned plant pillar, sprouting in a row from the surface below.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Hedge Maze can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Spring Cream and Thorn Rose . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Hedge Maze if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Hedge Maze by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Hedge Maze will sprout its vine pillars some distance ahead of the user's current location on all the lanes that the user is not currently on. If the track is four lanes wide, then up to three of these pillars will be so tall that they cannot be jumped over. If the track is six lanes wide on the other hand, then up to four of these pillars will be too tall to be jumped over. The rest of the lanes, on the other hand, will not have any pillars. If a character collides with any of the pillars, including the user themselves, they will take damage, causing them to lose Rings and slow down momentarily. In addition, characters who have hit a pillar will be entangled by multicolored flowers for several seconds that will make them lose speed every time they switch lanes. To avoid the Hedge Maze, the playable character must jump over the lowest pillars produced by this power-up or run in-between them.
The Hedge Maze can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. For each upgrade, the Hedge Maze's entangle duration as well as damage will be increased.

Prior to an unknown update, the Hedge Maze had a different description.
Prior to 4.3.0 update, the Hedge Maze also spawns the same lane where the user currently on.
