The Crossed Wires is an Item Box power-up that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series
Description [ ] The Crossed Wires' icon takes both pillars with three-yellow rings in them. Both connect together with white and blue-outline lightning bolts.
Overview [ ] In gameplay, the Crossed Wires can only be obtained at random from Item Boxes by Grim Sonic , Rusty Rose . As with most other Items, Metal Sonic and Metal Sonic Mach 3.0 can also use the Crossed Wires if they use the Steal Item, or Fortune Teller Amy if she uses Lucky Draw or Wall of Cards to steal it from the aforementioned user.
Once obtained, the player can utilize the Crossed Wires by pressing its icon on the bottom of the HUD. When used, the Crossed Wires will appear in front of the user's next rival if the user is behind said rival. If the user is leading the race however, it will appear on the lane directly behind them. If rival character contact with Crossed Wires will lose Rings and stop for a moment, also lose one of randomly item on the bottom of the HUD in item slot. To avoid the Crossed Wires, the player must either step out its lane or jump over it.
The Crossed Wires can also be upgraded by leveling the user up to level 4, 10 and 16 respectively. When leveled up up to level 4 and 10, the damage inflicted by the Crossed Wires will be increased. When reaching level 16 however, there is an increased chance to pick up three Crossed Wires from an Item Box.
