- In Greek mythology, the Nereids were the sea nymph daughters of the 'Old Man of the Sea' Nereus and the Oceanid Doris. They were the attendants of the god of the sea, Poseidon, and were seen as goddesses of the sea's rich bounty and protectors of sailors and fishermen.
