It’s a Renee Ballard series book, but I’m really glad Harry Bosch has a big part in it. I guessed what was happening with the Midnight Men crimes fairly early on, but that didn’t in any way detract from my enjoyment of the book. I love that it is set in the here and now. The mentions of the pandemic, the storming of the Capitol, the BLM protests, the death of George Floyd made the story deeply engaging for me. I didn’t love the Renee Ballard character in her first book, but i’m sold on her now. Trigger warnings : rape ...more

Original title: The Murder List, the current title is : Bring Her Back. I can imagine this book as a British police drama mini series. The story was interesting and well written. There were not too many characters, and all the characters were believable and likeable. Even the villain was strangely likeable. Some people will disagree with me on that. The story is satisfactorily resolved, no cliff hanger, but there are issues to be addressed in the next book, which I will definitely read. ...more

This boThis is the 12th book in this series and I've not lost interest yet. Not for everyone; vampires, swearing, violence and a lot of explicit sex. It tells some of the story of the Odyssey and several other Greek Myths from the point of view of Circe. The story telling is vivid and rich while being faithful to the original myths. I listened to this as an audio-book and would highly recommend listening to it. The narrator was brilliant. I think readers who had no foreknowledge of Greek myth might be at a disadvantage, but it would be easy to look up the characters and story as you went along....more

After reading some of the 1 and 2 star reviews of this book , I wasn't sure about starting, but I'm glad I did. I don't think I've ever read a book before that gives so little of the grisly details of the crimes and so much of the emotional and psychological damage done to women in sexual crimes. I liked the main character and had great compassion for her. The writing is excellent and Harris brings the alive the Southern mindset. All the characters were believable and the mystery well constructed. ...more

A mystery set in the Australian outback: the author gives just the right amount of description of place and sound and smell to evoke the beauty and isolation of the place, without the description overtaking the story. Jane Harper is a master of giving multiple characters enough motive to have committed the crime and keeps the reader guessing almost to the end. Very well written and edited ( i am tired of stumbling over grammar and other errors in books) this book has none....more
