Music for the battle with Fecto Elfilis in Kirby and the Forgotten Land

 This box: view  talk  edit
The Elfilin we first met was born from a small, compassionate soul that hid behind greater, invasive ambitions. Without a soul to temper its power, the creature's spatial-teleportation ability ran amok, opening mysterious vortices left and right. Now that they're whole again, they're already planning their next invasion...
— Figure description from Kirby and the Forgotten Land

Fecto Elfilis, titled the Ultimate Life-Form, is the final boss of Kirby and the Forgotten Land's main story. They are the form that Fecto Forgo takes after they absorb Elfilin, the embodiment of their compassion, and is likely the form they were originally in when they arrived in the new world. Without Elfilin, Fecto Elfilis slowly reverts back into Fecto Forgo. Even with their more compassionate side, Elfilis's main goal is invading other planets, according to their figure description.

The origin of Fecto Elfilis's name has not been concretely confirmed. "Elfilis" may be a corruption of their specimen ID, F86, which matches with Elfilin's F87. "Fecto" may come from "perfect", as Fecto Elfilis is known as the "Perfect Lifeform" in Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

Physical appearance[edit]

Fecto Elfilis resembles Elfilin loosely; both are mammalian creatures that are mostly turquoise in coloration and feature large ears and a long tail, all aspects reminiscent of a chinchilla. However, there are many differences that set the two apart.

Fecto Elfilis is vaguely humanoid in shape, but has many features of different Earthly creatures; they have cervid antlers akin to a deer, external gills akin to an amphibian like an axolotl, and digitigrade legs akin to most four-legged mammals (though they lack visible toes). Several parts of their body—such as their tail, antlers, and gills—end with cream-colored highlights. Around their neck is a thick collar of cream-colored fur, and a red marking runs down their stomach.

Most strikingly, Fecto Elfilis's ears are such a massive size that they resemble wings, with distinct segments that are even able to spread and contract. The insides of their ears are pinkish-orange and contain shimmering patterns in several colors, resembling a moth's wings; each segment ends in a purple tip. Fecto Elfilis has notably large pentadactyl hands, with magenta claws on each digit, and eyes with black sclera that glow in two shades of cyan and magenta.

In their right hand, Fecto Elfilis carries a spear that resembles a halberd. The handle consists of three segments colored in cyan, magenta, and yellow, with each segment wrapping around the others like a strand of DNA. The yellow and magenta segments each terminate into one half of an axe's head, while the cyan segment terminates in a spearhead.

According to the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide, Fecto Elfilis's spear is named Antares (アンタレス), after the brightest star in the constellation Scorpius.[1] Antares (or α Scorpii A) is actually in a binary star system, but the red supergiant is almost thirty times as luminous and over a hundred times as large (in radius) as its companion star, the blue-green Antares B (or α Scorpii B). As such, the binary system appears to be a single star on casual inspection. The nature of the Antares system featuring a concealed minuscule companion parallels the relationship between Fecto Elfilis and Elfilin, and is referenced through the Japanese title of "Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit", Fecto Elfilis's battle theme.

Boss battle[edit]

The battle against Fecto Elfilis takes place at the helipad on top of the Lab Discovera research facility during sunrise and is split into three phases. The last phase of the battle doesn't take place at the Colosseum.

Fecto Elfilis has 2,500 HP in Lab Discovera and 1,750 HP at the Colosseum throughout the first two phases.[2]

Phase 1[edit]

During the first phase, Fecto Elfilis attacks via land and air, often alternating attacks (attack names are from the Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide).

Fecto Elfilis's attacks - Phase 1
Attack Description Notes
軌道性パルサー
Orbital Pulsar
Fecto Elfilis either flies to the horizon or to the center of the battlefield and duplicates their spear seven times, and the phantom spears are launched towards Kirby one by one.
The phantom spears always appear above Fecto Elfilis.
At Lab Discovera, the Ultimate Life-Form always begins battle with two of these attacks off in the horizon.
Pulsars are neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation from their magnetic poles.
アンタレス・メテオ
Antares Meteor
Fecto Elfilis strikes the ground with their spear, causing a medium-sized shockwave around it.
This attack always comes out second when fought at Lab Discovera. In the Colosseum, this attack is always the first to come out.
Antares is the brightest star found in the Scorpius constellation. It's also the name of the spear Fecto Elfiis wields.
グリーンフラッシュ
Green Flash
Fecto Elfilis aims their spear straight, charges, and then dashes forward.
They may finish with a "Full Moon" attack or may do multiple Green Flashes in a row before the "Full Moon," up to a maximum of three times.
Green flash refers to a brief period during sunrise or sunset where the sun appears to turn green just before it fully sets or after it starts rising.
アンタレス・ベルト
Antares Belt
Fecto Elfilis rushes towards Kirby two or three times with their spear head facing downwards, causing a momentary alteration to the battlefield.
This move is always followed by "Antares Meteor".
フルムーン
Full Moon
Fecto Elfilis spins around in a circle with their spear out, causing mini shockwaves to appear around them.
ムーン
Moon
Fecto Elfilis strikes their spear once, twice, three times or four times in front of them, before finishing with a "Full Moon".
カイパーベルト・ウェーブ
Kuiper Belt Wave
Fecto Elfilis opens a small star-shaped dimension rift on the ground and opens five larger rifts around the arena before they pierce their spear through, causing shockwaves to spread across the battlefield.
Phase 2 changes the pattern to lines of five rifts; first on one side of Kirby, then another on the opposite side.
The Kuiper belt is a giant accretion disc beyond Neptune, consisting of a complex population of asteroids and dwarf planets.
ソル
Sol
Fecto Elfilis flies high up and charges energy through their horns before unleashing a powerful beam that follows Kirby's movements.
If Kirby steps on the glowing ground that the beam just passed over, he will be burned and take a little damage, but will not flinch.[3]
If Kirby makes contact with the beam itself, he will be trapped and take massive damage.
"Sol" means "sun" in various languages, most notably Latin and its descendants.
It is also used to refer to a "solar day" on another planet; a Mars sol, for example, is about 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth.

Phase 2[edit]

After losing 60% of their maximum health, Fecto Elfilis will start their second phase by warping the sky into a dimension rift-like state. They keep a similar moveset from the first phase with three additional attacks.

Fecto Elfilis also takes 0.8× damage during the entire second phase.

Fecto Elfilis's additional attacks - Phase 2
Attack Description Notes
スペースデブリ
Space Debris
Fecto Elfilis opens an "Another Dimension Gate"[4] in the sky, and three, five or six meteors fall towards the ground, which Kirby has to dodge.
This attack might be followed with the "Fermi Paradox Answer".
This attack always begins the second phase.
フェルミパラドックス・アンサー
Fermi Paradox Answer
Sometimes a large meteor immediately follows the Space Debris attack; if Kirby makes contact with this particular meteor, he will be pushed back and receive significant damage.
This attack always comes out second once the second phase starts.
The Fermi paradox is a supposed contradiction between the size and history of the universe and the lack of known contact with extraterrestrial life-forms. This is in stark contrast to Fecto Elfilis' planetary invasions, which may be considered the violent "answer" to the new world's version of this paradox.
ゲノムリペアーズ
Genome Repairs
Fecto Elfilis guards and makes copies of themselves, adding a secondary blue health bar. In order to deplete the blue health bar, Kirby must attack the real version to deplete the blue health before the blue laser ring closes in on them.
Any blue health remaining at the end of this move will be added to Fecto Elfilis's normal health bar. If Kirby manages to deplete all of the extra health, Fecto Elfilis will be momentarily stunned and lose 200 HP.
The real Fecto Elfilis has a shadow underneath them shortly after they duplicate.
Fecto Elfilis will attempt to replenish 600 HP (Lab Discovera)/320 HP (Colosseum) the first time they use this attack.
The second time they will try to replenish 300 HP (Lab Discovera)/210 HP (Colosseum).
The third time onwards has them try to replenish 50 HP.
Defense values change from 1.0X to 3.0X depending on how long the attack has lasted since activation.
Genomes contain all of the genetic information present within a life-form.

Once Fecto Elfilis's health is completely depleted, Kirby must use Mouthful Mode to remove the dome containing Elfilin while Fecto Elfilis's spear tries to attack him, which leads to the start of Phase 3. If Kirby fails to remove the dome in time, he will be damaged and Fecto Elfilis will recover some health, resuming the battle normally. The same will happen if Kirby refuses to use Mouthful Mode completely, except he won't take any damage.

Phase 3[edit]

In this last phase, Fecto Elfilis, now without Elfilin and degenerating, attempts to take Kirby and Elfilin down with them by opening a giant dimensional rift and setting the new world on a collision course with Kirby's home planet, Popstar. As the two planets draw closer, objects around Lab Discovera begin to disintegrate, due to the effects of the Roche limit.

Conveniently, a big-rig truck crashes next to the duo, and Kirby uses Mouthful Mode to obtain the sole appearance of Big-Rig Mouth. The section mainly consists of Kirby dashing towards Fecto Elfilis while dodging enemies and crashing pieces of Popstar, being careful not to fall off the edges of buildings and roads.

In the middle of this phase, Kirby gets too close for comfort, so Fecto Elfilis opens two more star-shaped dimensional rifts and summons two meteors to launch towards Kirby. The B/Y button must be mashed quickly in order to dodge the first meteor, and then Kirby has to jump towards Fecto Elfilis using the A/B button, who then unleashes another meteor to repeat the B/Y button mashing. Elfilin will then provide support for Kirby, and both the L Stick and the B/Y button will have to be mashed repeatedly in order to finally destroy this last meteor. In a last-ditch effort, Fecto Elfilis attempts to block the duo with a forcefield, but is overpowered and seemingly destroyed when Kirby rams into them.

After Fecto Elfilis's assumed defeat, Kirby and Elfilin end up back on Planet Popstar. The chaotic rift connected to the new world is too strong to stop on its own, so Elfilin uses all his strength to terminate the rift, creating a stable portal between Popstar and the new world.

Trivia[edit]

  • Fecto Elfilis's specimen ID is likely an easter egg referring to HAL Laboratory. Although the number "86" is pronounced traditionally as ハチロク (hachiroku) in the Japanese version of The Dream Discoveries Tour, "86" can also be read as はる (haru) using goroawase, sounding like HAL. The number 86 is commonly used in Kirby games to represent HAL.
  • If Fecto Elfilis hits the radio tower on the far edge of the battlefield with one of their attacks, it will crumble. This does not affect the fight in any way.
  • The Kirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide claims that Fecto Elfilis executes the attacks "Antares Meteor" and "Green Flash" at the speed of light. The same guidebook also says that Fecto Elfilis moves faster than the speed of sound in their general boss description.[5] Whether or not this can be taken at face value is unknown.
