Real World Access I share my story over the last few months and my experience of using the pod. This is an honest review of the V1 Pod. The newer model, based on feedback from about 200 beta users, has been enhanced with better features and benefits, such as improved connectivity and a more user-friendly interface, making it an even more reliable and convenient tool for your internet needs. I initially tested the L.O.V.E. Pod Satellite internet hotspot at home, where I used it for normal internet activities. The experience was nothing short of seamless, with no lag whatsoever. The added benefit is its built-in VPN, which is great to use most of the time but cannot be turned off. The other test was to see what was possible with video and multiple devices. YouTube played just fine with no latency. A Zoom conference was the extreme that I pushed it. The most reassuring aspect of this device is its portability. Living in Colorado or any other remote area, I often found my cell phone’s internet to be unreliable. Highlighting: "Meta has been investing tens of billions of dollars each year in its Reality Labs AR/VR division. Since breaking out Reality Labs' finances in public filings in Q4 2020 the company has spent over $50 billion on the division. Taking into account the total spending since acquiring Oculus in 2014, that figure could be close to $100 billion." (UploadVR) ----- According to The Information, Meta Reality Labs is a mess of conflicting initiatives, spending, losses, and pumping out hardware fast. Can this continue? The Quest 1 is deprecated as of 2024. The Quest 2 is still outselling the Quest 3. All four Quests (1,2, Pro, 3) were price subsidized money losing XR devices that cost Facebook/Oculus/Meta more to make than consumers were charged. This process of price subsidization coupled with scheduling hardware output that isn't a console generation nor is it a mobile annualization is messy. It will confuse developers while building consumer expectations to wait for cheaper devices at the low end of these half generations. Quest Release schedule according to The Information: Quest 1: Launched May 21, 2019. Quest 2: Launched October 13, 2020. Quest Pro: Launched October 25, 2022. Quest 3: Launched October 10, 2023. Quest 3S: Autumn 2024? Quest 4: Autumn 2026? Quest 4S: Autumn 2026? Quest Pro 2: Autumn 2027? Remember The Quest 2 is vastly outselling the Quest 3. What do VR developers develop for? Quest 2 with several millions or Quest 3 with a million? What happens when 3S, 4, 4S, and Pro 2, are added to the mix? This feels like platform fragmentation. It's too many in too short a time period. And doing devices every other year or every year only works for mobile with tens to hundreds of millions sold. How do you cut spending when you are losing money on every single piece of hardware as it sells? Selling more loses more. I mean, if Apple or Google wanted to screw with Meta what would be the best way? Buy 1 million Quest 3's and put them in a landfill. And make Meta loses $1 billion ($1000 loss per unit). Then rinse and repeat. Move over #trump, the California Department of Motor Vehicles just stole your spotlight in #web3. Let's address the problems separately. • User adoption when requiring wallets and crypto is difficult • User experience is a bit less polished than regular social This is a nothing problem now. With embedded wallets, users can create a wallet with their emails, passkeys, phone numbers, etc. • Scalability and performance issues with data and storage This is an easy problem to solve with L3s. Remember, if there is demand (which there is now), devs always find the solution to scale. • Interoperability between DeSocial and other applications Onchain Social is actually more interoperable than any other social ever build. Have you looked into frames? • Content moderation of harmful or inappropriate content • Navigating a complex legal landscape and privacy laws This is the biggest concern right now. Onchain social is small and can easily fly under the radar. But when it grows, and the scammers jump in, it will be a HUGE issue.
