This scheme resulted in the loss of over $20 million from victims worldwide, including a devastating $240,000 loss for a North Carolina resident. Tomar used these stolen funds to fund a luxury lifestyle, buying expensive watches, cars, and financing trips to Dubai and Thailand. The Justice Department initially estimated losses at $37 million, reflecting the massive scale of the fraud. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing risks in the crypto space, where scammers continue to exploit new and familiar methods to target individuals.
