    We realized that we needed to raise awareness of the excess food wastage and also provide a means to share food with people in need. Thus I and a couple of friends went on to found Annadhana.
    After founding it, I served as the Field Executive at Annadhana for Karkala region. We organized various events for the differently abled students in special schools and also in the home for the aged. We also conducted surveys to estimate the number of people with inadequate food.

    I was also part of the food re-allocation program wherein we transported surplus food from events to slums and other places where there was a need.

    interact between each other. Various applications on various platforms have
    assisted in areas relating to day to day activities. In the recent past, smart
    phones have gained high level of popularity.
    Google supported Android based smart phones have dominated the market for
    quite some time now. Analysts estimate the total market share of Android to be

    Since its advent, smart phones have had a great impact on the way people
    interact between each other. Various applications on various platforms have
    assisted in areas relating to day to day activities. In the recent past, smart
    phones have gained high level of popularity.
    Google supported Android based smart phones have dominated the market for
    quite some time now. Analysts estimate the total market share of Android to be
    around 40-60 percentage. Thus any application made for this O.S. could reach
    a larger portion of the smart phone user base. Android O.S. is completely open
    sourced and hence any development on this platform would be free of cost and
    would have plenty of documentation.
    Our project aims at using this platform to create an application that could aid
    and assist people with speaking and hearing disabilities. We have concentrated
    on detecting a subset of sign languages called the American Sign Language.
    The person using this application would be able to detect the alphabet that is
    being indicated in front of the camera.
    This application uses a kind of machine learning that uses templates to train as
    well as detect a symbol at a very fast rate. Machine learning is a field of study
    that gives computers the ability to learn without being explicitly programmed.
    We have attempted to remove any kind of obstructions in the process of
    detecting a symbol i.e. we have avoided the use of color markers, gloves or
    any other kind of peripherals. Our main aim is to reduce the number of devices
    involved and also eliminate any wires. We also wanted to make an application
    that would cost nothing and could be installed on a device that the user owns.
