“I had the privilege of working closely with Gary Clift during our time at Travelport and throughout our collaboration, he proved to be an exceptional leader, always providing guidance, support, and patience. He has a unique ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and concise way, which helped me understand both the company's goals and the intricacies of the project we were working on. Gary was always focused on ensuring that the team stayed aligned with the right objectives. His leadership style is one of both focus and empathy, which made working with him a rewarding experience. He consistently demonstrated a positive attitude, and his approachability and willingness to mentor were key to my personal growth in the project. I learned an incredible amount from him, and I’m very grateful for the support and insights he shared with me. His clear communication and dedication to the team's success made a significant impact on both my understanding of the project and my development as a professional. I truly believe that Gary is an outstanding product leader and a person I would love to work with again in the future.”

Here's how you can transition from individual contributor to team leader as a software engineer.
You have some great points here. Other strategic topics: A leader paints a picture on why the team is working hard. They share the outcome that is desired. A leader looks in a mirror when things go south and they look through a window when things go right.

Here's how you can transition from individual contributor to team leader as a software engineer.
Don’t ask a team to do something you would not do personally. As a deadline approaches and the workday gets longer, be with your team. A bad manager is one who thinks they are above the hardship. A good manager fights alongside the team in a hardship.

You're facing conflicts in code review feedback. How can you bridge communication breakdowns effectively?
I agree with you Abi. There are multiple ways to solve the same problem. It is important that a team solves those problems in a consistent and clear way. Writing novel code for every problem will require more effort to support the code. A good team solves problems. A great team solves problems together using agreements on what patterns and practices to use to solve the problem. Your point about arrogance is spot on. Arrogance and ego are poison to teams. Keep preaching your truth Abi!

Here's how you can effectively coordinate remote team members on a mobile app project.
Over the past three decades, I have learned to limit the number of goals to three goals. Any more than three and goal conflicts start to arise. My second suggestion is that goals are not sacred or immutable. At the start of any project, we have many assumptions based on intuition and, unfortunately, ego. The project's success might require you to revisit a goal that no longer suits the objective as we learn facts during the project.
