Short and Simple Review I thought this was an interesting continuation. After the twist in the last book, it was interesting to see Sloane trying to deal with that and seeing how the world was progressing to The Program. There are a lot of secrets, mystery, and deception in this book. Sloane isn't sure who to trust and she's trying to figure out why there have been so many recent suicides. Sloane's friendship with Virginia was the best part, even though Sloane was only talking to her at first in order to solve Virginia's connections to the mystery. It was difficult to read at times though because, thanks to the first two books, we already know what happens to Virginia. It does give insight into how cruel Pritchard is. What made me drop half a star was the romance. I'm sorry, I don't like Deacon very much. I don't think Deacon and Sloane had a very good romantic relationship. It is explained why the broke up, but I think I'm just tired of books always trying to end with a boy and a girl romantically together. Why can't there be more that end with friendships?...more

MY THOUGHTS I love the Across the Universe series, so I was excited when I found out that Beth Revis was writing another book! And I was not disappointed in this book!
What's probably my favorite thing about this book is how unique it is. Beth Revis does such an amazing job describing and building the world, and while it is a dystopian and most dystopian books seem like the same old thing, this book is completely different than any other. And this world is highly based on science and while the science is far-off, this books makes everything sound possible and believable.
The book is also very entertaining and it's hard to put down. There are so many twists and turns, along with the idea that Ella has no idea what is truth and lies, that you absolutely need to keep reading!
The romance is also very well done. It doesn't distrant from the plot, in fact, it's hardly there at all for a majority of the book. The romance is also done in a very interesting way...
One thing I would like to mention, is that the author does make a few references to Across the Universe in this book. It's not important to the story, but I just love it when an author gives a little wink to her other books!
Now, I loved this book, but for some reason, I can't give it a higher rating. I didn't have very many issues with this book. In fact, my only problem was just that I was a bit confused and overwhelmed at the end. There was just so many things that I had to wrap my mind around. But I don't blame the book or the author for this, as I get confused extraordinarily easily.
IN CONCLUSION I'm sorry if my review is vague, but I want you to be shocked by the events in the book, just like I was. It's a very unique sci-fi read with lots of plot twists! I do recommend it, along with the author's other books! ...more

I've loved Jennifer L. Armentrout's other books, so it wasn't that surprised that I loved this book too. Oddly enough, when I first saw this book around the interweb, I wasn't that inclined to pick it up. It just didn't sound like my kind of book and I'm usually not big on mysteries. But I actually really enjoyed reading this book! I liked seeing Sam trying to remember who she was and uncover what happened. I was so into this book, desperately wanting to know what happened, that it was hard for me to put it down. I don't know what prevented me from giving it a 5/5. I think the romance fell a little flat, but everything else was absolutely amazing!...more

ACTUAL RATING: 3.5 Stars MY THOUGHTS This book was, honestly, not what I was expecting. Not that that's a bad thing, but I was expecting a high sci-fi book for some reason and got a thriller (with some sci-fi) instead. Again, not that that's a bad thing.
This book takes place in a world very close to present day. The science and technology is a bit more advanced, but the world as a whole is pretty much the same (though, we don't see very much of that world). Our main character resides in a hospital where her memories are being erased because she, apparently, went through a very traumatic experience. Though, Sarah, as she is called, has absolutely no memory of her life. I'm always a sucker for books involving memory loss! And right from the start I was immersed in this book! There is absolutely no such thing as a boring moment in this book, the entire book takes place in a very short time-span and almost every moment includes the main character running for her life, fighting for her life, and trying to piece together who she is. And it's very interesting to see everything come together! There is also a bit of a romance in the book, since it is YA, but it doesn't dominate the story and it actually blends into the book very well! I have absolutely no complaints about the romance! (I almost always do, so it'd kind of odd).
I liked so many things about this book that it's hard for me to pinpoint what I didn't like about this book. I enjoyed reading this book, but some things just prevented me from connecting with it. One problem I might've had was that I just didn't have a strong connection to Sarah. I liked her and I felt for her (mostly because I hated the villain so frexing much!), but I just did not feel that connection. And I loved how exciting this book was, but at times it just got to the point that there was too much happening at once to wrap my head around. I really did enjoy this book. I thought it was exciting and unique, I only had a few problems, but I still enjoyed this book overall.
IN CONCLUSION Very fast-paced, exciting, and it's a book that keeps you guessing! There is a overall thriller vibe to this book, but there's also some sci-fi and even a bit of romance for those who like a little of that! If you like you're thriller with a side of sci-fi, this book's for you!...more

MY THOUGHTS There are so many great things about this book! The most interesting aspect of this book definitely has to be the idea. This book revolves around a society where people's memories are kept in Links, which are beads that people generally wear as necklaces or bracelets (as the memories only stay with you if you touch/wear them). This allows them to remember everything vividly. These people are called Mementi. Then there's Populace, who are, essentially, average people. Their memories are kept in their brains are, therefore, thought to be dumber and many live in poverty because they cannot get the Mementi jobs. Meanwhile, a thief is stealing Links, leaving the victims without any memory of who they are. And it is thought to be Populace, because Mementi are obviously too nice to do that to one of their own.
See how unique this idea is! I've never read a book anyway like this and I was amazed in how much thought was put into this society. And that's not even all if it! There's so much more in the book that I can't tell you about! And the mystery involved in the story, along with the unhappening, kept me glued to the pages.
Besides the amazing storyline, I loved the characters. Specifically I loved how our main character Gen, changes throughout the book. I also loved Kalan, who is such an amazing, nice guy. Another pro: There is very little romance! So, the storyline actually dominates the book!
My only issue with this book is how strange and crazy this book got. I'm sorry if I'm being vague, but no to spoilers! I don't know why, but I begin to lose interest towards the end of the book, mostly because I thought things were taking a weird turn. I was also not a fan of Gen's parents. Her parent let her have her own opinions and care also about how it reflects on them. They also go way too far in this book!
IN CONCLUSION If you're looking for a very unique, original book with a bit of mystery, look mo further! This was such an interesting book! Sure, I had issues with the end, but it's still a really great book! I will definitely be on the lookout for more by this author!...more
MY THOUGHTS I have had this book on my TBR for quite a while and This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
Actual Rating: 2.5 Stars
MY THOUGHTS I have had this book on my TBR for quite a while and I just finally got around to reading it. I found some parts of the mystery interesting and this was a pretty quick read, but I was a little let down by this book.
A little info about the book: You wake up on the subway tracks with no memory of who you are. A number in a notebook leads you to a crime scene and now the police think you are a thief. Strangers keep following you, trying to kill you, and you struggle with the small snippets of memory you have. You have to figure out who you are and why these people are after you.
What drew me to add this to my TBR in the first place was mainly the second-person perspective. I do not see very many books in this perspective and I always think it is a unique way to tell a story. It is easy to get wrong--and to make a book annoying to read--but I think it made sense for the book. The MC does not know her name, so it is an interesting way to avoid the use of her name. It also makes parts of the book fast-paced and adds some suspense.
There were moments that it felt off, like with the romance. I did not like the romance at all and I honestly do not think romance works well with the second-person narration. What really bothered me about the romance, though, was how quick it escalated. The MC meets a boy named Ben at the supermarket and she ends up staying with him for a little bit. They know each other for a week and they are already hooking up and Ben wants them to run away together. It just seemed really odd, especially since Ben was so chill about everything. He felt like a really static character to be honest because he had no personality. He was just the “love interest” and was just there to occasionally help the MC (but he was never part of solving the mystery).
As for the MC, I was not sure how I felt about her. Because of the second person narration, you would think that you would connect with the MC more, but it made me more aware of how I would not go about these situations. For instance, the MC is distrustful of many things, for good reason, but she trusts Ben so easily. In the beginning, when she meets the mysterious caller (view spoiler)[, she picks a lock because the office door is closed and gets framed for a crime. But why would you do that? If I were meeting someone in an office, I would not automatically try to pick the lock. It just seemed really dumb. It only really served to A) Prevent the MC from going to the police and B) Show that the MC can pick locks, which does not really come up again. (hide spoiler)] I just did not agree with some of her choices.
This book is a mystery/thriller book, but it felt more thriller than mystery. The MC is running around LA getting chased, following others, breaking into places, and it is all very fast-paced. The thriller aspect put me off of the story because, while I finished the book very quickly, I am not the biggest fan of thrillers. I like mysteries, but thrillers to me are more chase scenes and fights and lots of running, which is what this book felt like. There is a mystery because the MC is trying to figure out who she is and what is going on. Some of the mystery is really intrigued and I did find myself wanting to know more, but I found myself unsatisfied with the mystery. What I like about mysteries is trying to guess along with the MC. In this book, things happened so quickly, that I was not able to guess or, because of the MC’s dumb choices, I felt like I was forced into knowing only what she figured out. I did not feel like I could guess on my own. There were some twists that I found very surprising, but sometimes they did not make sense. (view spoiler)[ We find out that Ben is a Watcher, but... I have no idea what that is. It is not really clear what the Watchers are, but it upsets the MC even though she should not really know what that is. (hide spoiler)]
IN CONCLUSION I was disappointed in this book. I liked the narration and the mystery as intriguing, but I found myself frustrated by the romance and the MC’s decisions. This was also more thriller than mystery which is fine but not really my cup of tea. The book does end on a pretty good cliffhanger and I am curious about what is going to happen next, but I do not really want to read more in the series. I do have another book from Anna Carey on my TBR, This Is Not the Jess Show, and I do still intend on reading that. ...more

MY THOUGHTS This was one of my most highly anticipated reads, but I oddly enough didn't have high expectations of it. I liked the author's other book, Another Little Piece, but it didn't wow me. Along with that, this book doesn't have an extremely high average rating on Goodreads. But the fact that I didn't have high expectations made me love this book even more. I was not disappointed by this book at all.
This is an extremely weird and creepy book, but in a good way. I loved how weird this book was. The town was insanely creepy, but full of mysteries. What I really found interesting was how perfectly normal this town was to those living there. The 4 year thing where normal kids go crazy is just a part of life. The inhabitants of the town even have special abilities and that's not considered strange at all!
The way this book was narrated was interesting as well. The book is told in dual point-of-view, but by both by Skylar. Every so often we would get a memory of Skylar & Piper that would give us hints of what's actually going on with Garnerville and it was a very interesting way to tell the story.
One thing that I have been loving lately in books is unreliable narrators. Yes, this book definitely has that. Skylar, our main character, has a very questionable memory. She takes pills called forget-me-nots that actually causes her to forget things, so yeah, not a very reliable narrator. What's so great about books with reliable narrators is that it makes a book more mysterious and every plot twist even more shocking! And yes, we get one of those! (and I loved it!)
Of course, this book wasn't perfect (just like Gardnerville isn't), there were some things that I had issues with, but not many. I felt that this book was a bit slow at times, even though I do understand why. I also felt that the ending was rushed. The climax was crammed into a little chapter and that was a bit much for me.
IN CONCLUSION I definitely recommend this book! If you're in the mood for a weirdly awesome standalone, pick up this book! While I will be waiting for more by Kate Karyus Quinn. ...more

MY THOUGHTS I didn't think this book was as strong as The Program, but it was still a great continuation to the series (and a great conclusion to this portion of the series).
Sloane and James have run away from their families and The Program, but there has been an Amber Alert made for them. If they're caught they will be returned to The Program and their minds won't survive another mind wipe. With the help of Realm, they join a group of rebels who are small in number but desperate to keep their memories. Sloane and James are still struggling with their own memories, trying to get back into a relationship that neither can remember. Except Sloane keeps getting flashing of memory back and there's a small pill given to her by Realm that will bring back all of her memories. But is it really worth the risk to remember everything?
It took me a little bit to get into this book. This book has a slow pace in the beginning and this book starts out in the typical rebellion plot of dystopian books. This made me a bit disinterested as one of my favorite things about The Program was how it took the typical genre of dystopian and stayed away from the usual tropes. It discussed tough topics in a realistic manner, asked important questions, and had a mental battle rather than physical. This book started with a rebellion which at this point I find cliche for dystopian books. Now, as the book progressed, it did stray from the rebellion aspect and become more of the story of inner reliance that I expected. While Sloane is away from The Program, she does not remember everything about her life and she is trying to decide whether she would rather live without her memories or try to bring them back. The risks also grow throughout the book. The Program in the first book was terrifying, but now characters are at risk of losing their entire selves. We also learned more about how The Program started and while the characters fight to take down The Program, it was more of a battle of using the media and the law to expose the truths of The Program to society, rather than an outright war.
The relationship between Sloane and James becomes strained in this book. This makes sense as they are still struggling with their memories and really, not everything is going to be rainbows and unicorns. What frustrated me was that this book tried to have a love triangle (which I don't like in the first place). I say tried because it's clear that Sloane only really has feelings for James but she has this confusing relationship with Realm and James thinks Sloane has strong feelings for Realm. It was just unnecessary drama. Part of it just didn't make sense because it is never really clear why Realm has this attraction for Sloane. Realm could be an interesting character and we learn a lot more about him in this book, but why out of all the girls he wants to pursue Sloane (a girl who already has a boyfriend). Nothing wrong with Sloane, it's just that from the end of The Program it is clear that Realm has helped other girls while working for The Program. It just made Realm out to be obsessive.
IN CONCLUSION/u> Overall, it was a slow start but the ideas in this book are still very fascinating and unique to the genre. I was surprised to see everything tied up at the end of this book because there are still four more books, but I guess the other books focus on other characters, so this is the last of Sloane and James. I do look forward to reading the next books....more
