Not just the whole "Girl meets popular rockstar" thing, but it seemed like almost anything bad that could happen to a character was piled onto Libby. Yeah, I know that people have been through as much as her, but it was a lot to take in within so few of pages and with the romance going on at the same time. It also was incredibly cheesy, lots of insta-love, and some of the characterization made zero sense to me. It wasn't all bad, it was an interesting read at times, but it's easier to read if you suspend belief.

MY THOUGHTS I've read many books by Susane Colasanti before, and enjoyed them. So, when I saw this book at a used book sale, I picked it up without seeing what it was about. While I enjoyed her other books, this book was most definitely not for me. If I read the synopsis beforehand, I would've known that. This book was just way too cheesy.
This book is told in dual POV between Seth and Skye. The two meet over the summer for one night, but before they meet again, Seth unexpectedly leaves early. They both wonder if they will see each other again or if the other felt the same way about that night. When they do see each other, they'll try to make it work, but it is much harder than either of them expected.
This book wasn't bad, but it's just not my kind of book. It's hard to get me to like a romance, and this book had almost everything that I don't like in romance. First of all, I don't believe in the idea of soulmates. Since that seems to be what a majority of this book is about, it was hard for me to get into it. And as the two go hand and hand, there was insta-love. Not a fan of that.
To be honest, this book was just not Susane Colasanti's best. As I mentioned, I've read many of her books and this one is by far my least favorite. Again, this was mostly because of the romance, but the characters and story also just fell flat.
IN CONCLUSION I know I'm making this book sound horrible, but this really is just not my kind of book. If you believe in soulmates, this might be more of your cup of tea. It's a really quick contemporary read, it did have it's moments, but I couldn't look past the romance. This is definitely not my favorite book from Susane Colasanti....more
MY THOUGHTS I had this on my TBR for a while and going into this book, I had no clue what This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
MY THOUGHTS I had this on my TBR for a while and going into this book, I had no clue what it was really about. While I had a couple of issues with this book, this was a very addicting read and I could not stop reading it.
Audrey and her brother are on their way to live with their grandmother, just months after the death of their mother. When they stumble upon the Hotel Ruby, Audrey is more than happy to spend a night there before she has to live in the home of someone she barely knows. But when her family keeps extending her stay, and Audrey notices some odd things about the hotel, she realizes that she needs to convince her family to leave. This was such a great horror story, with horror elements that are less jump scare/thriller, and eerier. I started this book late at night and I found that I did not want to stop reading it. I wanted to know what was up with this hotel! Throughout the book, so many odd things keep piling up, along with so twists and turns. I read some other reviews and others say that the plot twist was predictable, but I was completely thrown. I saw hints of it, but I did not fully guess it until we got close to the twist. I may have been unable to predict it because I am unfamiliar with the song "Hotel California" or because I was reading this while sleep-deprived, but I honestly think Suzanne Young did a great job in putting these mystery elements in the book, of setting up this eerie hotel.
What I did have a problem with was the romance. Audrey meets a boy at the hotel and it is complete insta-love. I hated the parts of the book featuring them because I saw no basis of their relationship, they just make out all the time and I guess we are supposed to believe they love each other, but I did not see it. It just felt cheesy and unnecessary. I wanted to know more about the hotel, get back to the creepiness. He does introduce some aspects of the hotel (he does hang out with some of the hotel staff that Audrey makes friends with), but I wish that his character had more to him besides love interest.
The ending of the book was interesting. Like I said, I did not see the twist coming and I liked how it was integrated, but I did not like the ending-ending. I just have some issues with it. (view spoiler)[ So, she chooses to stay at Hotel Ruby, which means that she dies. I understand why, she did it to save the Hotel from the bad guy (I am sorry, I am writing this review months after reading the book. I do not remember his name). But what about her mom? We are told that her family is grieving her mother. By her whole family staying, Audrey and her family will never see their mom again, not even in the afterlife. We are also led to believe that Audrey stays because of her family, but because of the romance, it seems like she stays because of insta-love boy. I was expecting those stuck at Hotel Ruby to move on and that would be a better ending, in my opinion. They are still stuck at the hotel though, just without the bad guy controlling them (hide spoiler)]
IN CONCLUSION I did like this book overall. I really liked the premise, the eerie hotel elements, and the plot twist. I wish there was more focus on the mystery rather than the insta-love, but that is usually the case with books. While I had some issues, I am glad that I picked it up....more
I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
MY THOUGHTS I liked so many things about this book, but I did have a huge problem with the romance. And as the story went on my feeling towards the book spiraled downward.
Basically, Ember teleports at night for ten minutes, each time a seemingly random location. It turns out that she, along with others, were some kind of generic experiment done by the government. Now, the government wants their experiments back. Ember has to work with her 'pair', Caden, on missions to help stop threats. But when her 'new home' is more like a prison, she can't trust the government. Especially when they are hiding so much from her.
When I started this book, I was loving it! I love the idea behind this book, still do! But then the romance starting trickingling in and I just wasn't enjoying it anymore. I avoid New Adult like the plague, for good reason, and I had no idea this book was a New Adult book (the Goodreads synopsis gives no hint of it). My dislike towards New Adult is mainly because I am a prude and most New Adult books get very sexual. There's nothing wrong with sex in books, I know people do it, I just don't like it when the scences get descriptive. It makes me very uncomfortable and, frankly, I find it very gross. Anyway, Coden, our love interest was very unlikeable. He's an arrogant pervert. He would pull off Ember's sheets to wake her up, knowing very well that she was naked (this was before they were together) and he tricked her into going skinny dipping with him. The romance was also very insta-love, which I also hate.
I did like the whole idea behind the story. I thought the whole idea of teleporting at night was very interesting. I really want to know more about the whole idea! Though, now I think back and see so many holes in the world-building...
Last thing I have to rant about: Desiree. She was Caden's friend and the entire time Desiree basically wanted to kill Ember. This was so stupid and just plain irritating! I couldn't understand why Desiree was so hateful towards Ember. Yeah, she with your old best friend, but really? And I, frankly, am just tired of the mean girl trope. (Of course, Caden just ignores his "best friend").
IN CONCLUSION This is just making me sad. At the beginning of this review, I was giving this book 3 stars, now it's down to 2 and I'm having a hard time finding things I like. Really, this just wasn't my kind of book. I thought it would be, but the sexual stuff ruined it for me and before you know it, I started finding tons of flaws. Honestly, I don't think I'll be reading the sequel....more
MY THOUGHTS I'm ashamed to say this, but I almost gave up on this book. The first 70 pagesThis and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
MY THOUGHTS I'm ashamed to say this, but I almost gave up on this book. The first 70 pages or so just wouldn't click with me. The book alternated time periods, some chapters took place in the present while other took place in the 1870's. What bothered me about this was that, well, nothing was really happening. Add the fact that the two time periods seemed to have no connection with each other, I just wasn't really into the book. Then I got my Chaos in the mail and just pushed Monstrous Beauty to the side. And it sat there for more than a week. I didn't want to pick it up again, but I checked Goodreads and I noticed very positive reviews, so I decided to give the book another chance. And I am glad that I gave it another chance. The book was completely different the second time I picked it up. It was so much more interesting and I actually began to like the alternating time periods. Most surprisingly, this book was not only about mermaids. In fact, I would hardly call it a mermaid book. This book is more like a very intriguing paranormal mystery with both the past and the present. I was so into the last half of the book that it was enormously difficult for me to put it down. My only issue with the last half was that there was the addition of insta-love, one of my biggest pet peeves. And it wasn't easy to ignore.
IN CONCLUSION The first 70 pages are pretty dull, but it picks up speed fast after that! I enjoying reading this book and I would've given it a 4 if it weren't for the slow beginning and the insta-love. If you want a very surprising mystery with paranormal elements this is your book! This author is a great writer and I can't wait to read more from her!...more
MY THOUGHTS This wasn't a bad book, but it just didn't click with This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
ACTUAL RATING: 2.5 stars
MY THOUGHTS This wasn't a bad book, but it just didn't click with me and ultimately, it's forgettable.
Amelia is staying in Baltimore with family for the spring. She's supposed to be finding marriage opportunities and courting, as well as be in society. But a discovery of a new talent changes things. Amelia has the ability to tell the future and soon others flock to hear their future told, but things get worse when her abilities foretell horrible events. Also, Amelia is falling in love, but with someone who is forbidden to her.
This book begins in the fall of 1889, with Amelia "ruined" and it references events and people vaguely, which is confusing. Then it jumps back to the spring, telling the events leading up to the fall. From the beginning, you know that something bad will happen to cause Amelia to be in a dark place. It was very interesting knowing this and it made me read the book with dread. Some parts were very well-done, but I felt like the lead-up was sometimes slow. It was very vague and Amelia's abilities were passed over too quickly. The ending was well-done and connected nicely to the beginning, but the rest was a bit slow.
I do think the setting and characters were well-done. The historical setting was very well researched! The setting felt completely real, even with the magical elements. The characters were also nice. I liked Amelia and Zora's friendship (even though they're related, they acted like great friends). I also liked their other friendships, though those weren't as strong. Zora and Thomas's relationship was also a great one.
My main problem with this book was the romance. It's insta-love. Amelia falls for Nathaniel when she firsts sees him, they don't even really talk! Also, the romance didn't feel like it was very well-developed, the same for Nathaniel's character. Really, if it weren't for the romance, I would have given this book a higher rating.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I'm pretty 'meh' on this book. The setting and characters are well-done, but while the premise is interesting, I felt like I didn't really get to see and understand Amelia's abilities very well. The main downfall, though, was the romance, which is the dreaded insta-love. I actually do plan on reading the sequel. It's from the perspective of a different character, so there may not be insta-love in that one!...more
MY THOUGHTS I am inbetween about my feelings on this book. On one This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
Actual Rating: 2.5 Stars
MY THOUGHTS I am inbetween about my feelings on this book. On one hand, I am very disappointed. On the other, I actually sort of liked this book.
Starting this book, I was worried. This book immediately starting following what I can YA Book Syndrome. Two side effects of YA Book Syndrome is that our main character (usually a girl) faces a tragedy and/or moves to a new school (usually a private or boarding school). This book follows both of these "side effects" and it made me worry that this book was going to be just like every other YA book. I honestly didn't have to worry about this. Sure, this book isn't completely original, but none of this is what disappointed me.
I could not stand the romance. I was actually fine with everything else, but whenever the romance took center stage, my opinion on the book went down. This book featured my least favorite type of romance: insta-love. Michele and Philip have an immediate attraction towards each other. It was cheesy and unbelievable. Maybe I could understand Michele, since she's had dreams about Philip her whole life, but Philip? I honestly couldn't believe it. This guy has never talked to her before (he did see her for a very brief moment), he's even engaged to someone, but he's willing to be with this girl for his life. I just honestly couldn't understand this instant attraction to one another. Whenever the romance was in the book, which was maybe the middle portion of the book, I was very annoyed at the book, but the romance wasn't always the focus of the book. Obviously, there is time travel and time travel happens to be one of my favorite things that I can find in books. There are times when Michele goes back in time without going to see Philip and I loved those moments! I loved seeing the lives of the past! That's one of the reasons that I love time travel so much! And while I don't quite understand how it works, I do like the concept in the book.
IN CONCLUSION The romance was annoying and cliche, but the time travel was amazing! If it wasn't for the romance, this book would have such a higher rating, but I just can't ignore the stupid romance. As far as reading the sequel, I'm not sure. I am interested in continuing, as I want some more answers.(view spoiler)[ Why can Philip see her? What do her dreams mean? And what about her father? THE RUN-DOWN When Chloe was a little girl, she was able to see ghosts. But her mother toldThis and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
THE RUN-DOWN When Chloe was a little girl, she was able to see ghosts. But her mother told her that if she told the ghosts to leave Chloe alone, then they would. And for the past ten years, Chloe didn't see a single spirit. That is, until her mother's death. Suddenly, Chloe is seeing ghosts all over the place.
Chloe's grandmother then decides that Chloe and her brother need to take a trip to England with her to Grange Hall, an old house that she fixed up. And, of course, the house has ghosts. One of them is Alex, who is the very first ghost that Chloe can actually talk to and she has an undeniable attraction to. But not all ghosts are nice and Alex's past girlfriend does not like Chloe...
MY THOUGHTS I just want to come out and say that I have never read a book by Alexandra Adornetto before, and I haven't exactly heard good things about her Halo series. But I decided, kind of on a whim, to read this book. To be honest, I was hoping for a good ghost book. I love ghost stories and I love books with ghosts; I find them scary but interesting at the same time. I don't think I looked close enough at the synopsis. "Alexander Reade is 157 years dead." Gosh, you mean that our main character falls in love with a guy who happens to be in the triple digits (and dead)? Hmmmm, I've never read a book like that before!
Yeah, this book wasn't going to be a nice creepy ghost story, just a stereotypical paranormal teen book. It also doesn't help that the more I got into this book, the more it sounded almost exactly like another book I've read, The Deepest Cut (seriously, it's scary how similar these two books are).
I could probably deal with an unoriginal storyline, as long as it's entertaining, but I did have a major issue with this book. The romance was enormously cliché and full of, you guessed it, INSTA-LOVE. The romance was what I call the "Bella and Edward Romance" because, just like those in Twilight, our main couple would continuously profess love to one another and that's it. There were no thoughts that would let us believe it, no build-up, just a "BUT I LOVE HIM!" I didn't even know that Chloe was attracted to Alex until he talked about a previous girlfriend and then Chloe just gets all sad thinking that she could "never compete with her". Excuse me? When did you all of a sudden want to date this guy? You do know that he is dead, right?
I really wish that I could ignore the stupid romance, but it’s very hard to ignore. The focus of the book is on the psychotic ghost (which I'll say more about later), but Alex would always be popping up and suddenly BAM! cliché-ness!
I was actually okay with the book for a while in the beginning, but the romance in it just made me dislike more and more things about the book. I began to look at the characters in a lesser light for example. Chloe especially. I began to see her as an idiot, mostly because she thought that she could be in a relationship with a dead dude. But she also began to always call for Alex's help and just do idiotic things. I also noticed holes in the story. Like the fact that we are never told how Chloe's mom dies! This is an important fact, but all we get to know is that she died!
Now, there is one thing that I did actually like about this book. I liked the psychotic ghost. I wanted a creepy ghost and I got some of that with this ghost. Granted, she was not exactly what I wanted for a ghost story, but she was definitely scary and that is what I want in a ghost book.
IN CONCLUSION Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of this book. It's just like every other YA paranormal book, with added cliché romance. If that's what you like, then you can give this a try. But if you're like me and want your ghost stories to be a little less romance and a lot more horror, then you should skip this one. I'm probably not going to continue this saga (It's a trilogy, but it's called a 'saga'? Really?), but I am curious to see if this book is going to go the same direction as The Deepest Cut (Guys, I'm not joking at how similar these books are) since it looks like it might be......more
MY THOUGHTS I felt as if I was on a teeter-totter the whole time I was reading this book. This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
MY THOUGHTS I felt as if I was on a teeter-totter the whole time I was reading this book. Whenever I began to enjoy reading this book, I would be high up on the teeter-totter until something would happen in the book and bring me back to the ground. This would happen over and over again throughout the book, which makes me so sad! I wanted to enjoy this book! In fact, there were occasions that I was really close to enjoying it! But there was always something that would prevent that.
The Writing The writing was one of those somethings and it's what really makes me so sad about not liking this book. Lanie Bross is obviously a great writer! I could clearly picture what was happening and she has such a great imagination! But, oddly enough, I am not a fan of her writing style. The book is written in 3rd person which is not my favorite point-of-view. I can deal with it if it follows only one person or it alternates every chapter (with the character's name before the chapter). But this book did not follow one character and while it did alternate every chapter, there would occasionally be chapters where more than one character was followed. This just made it very hard for me to connect with the characters or even care about them. What made it worse, though, was the fact that the antagonist was a character that was followed and we would hear the thoughts of. This erased a lot of mystery in the book.
No Explanation This isn't a big one, but there were words used that were never explained. Same thing with people. Names were brought up but it was never told who they were. It got very confusing at times.
The Romance The romance was what really drove me mad! I can deal with the writing, I can deal with no explanations, but the romance was constantly dragging me back down to the ground. I could be enjoying a scene and BOOM, here comes insta-love. Yes, there was insta-love. "Corinthe shook her head. She must have hit her head in the accident: he was human, and she could hardly even tell the difference between humans. But something about this boy seemed different." -Page 8 "He stared hard at her month and fought the intense desire to hear her whisper his name instead." -Page 65 Both of these quotes are from when they don't even know each other! But it gets worse: "But he wanted to kiss her more than anything right that second. Press his lips against the soft curve of her neck." -Page 100 To set the scene: Corinthe is trying to kill him. This chick has a knife at this guy's throat and instead of think "Woah, this chick is trying to kill me! I need to fight back!" He's thinking about kissing her. And these ridiculous emotions cross the character's minds all throughout the book. Even more ridiculous, there wasn't even really a romance until the very very end.
But, as I said, there were parts that I actually enjoyed.
The Ideas I loved the premise to the story and all the imagination involved in the creation of it. The idea of fate in this book was enormously fascinating!
Fantasy Elements I can't go into full detail about this, because of spoilers, but there are other worlds in this story and made me super happy! This kind of thing in books is one of my favorite plot-like aspects to be found in books! The middle portion of this book, where this was, was my absolute favorite and I was really enjoying myself throughout it! Sucks that the romance ruined it.
The Ending I HATED the romance aspect to the ending, but other than that, I really liked the way things ended. It sounds really bad, though, if you know what happens. (view spoiler)[Corinthe basically sacrifices herself. She dies instead of Luc. It's really odd that I like this, but it shows how much Corinthe changes as a character. In the beginning, all she cared about was getting back home, enough so that she planned on killing the guy that she kind of liked. She was also very emotionless and inhuman in the beginning. But she ended up giving her home to let Luc's sister live and to save Luc. It also says a lot about fate in the fact that Luc killing Corinthe actually ended up happening in the end. (hide spoiler)]
IN CONCLUSION I have a weird relationship with this book. I enjoyed some parts--like the premise, the fantasy elements, and the ending--but was not a fan of the writing style or lack of explanations. But the romance was particularly irritating. I would like to think that the middle portion of the book would redeem it, but I can't get myself to give this book a higher rating. To be honest, the book isn't really that memorable. Maybe it's because of the fact that I never could connect with the characters, but I don't think I'll remember this story in the long-run. As for the next book, I won't read it. 1. I liked the ending of this book. 2. I have a feeling that book 2 might have more romance. But Lanie Bross is talented and if she ever writes anything else, I'll probably look into it....more

Actual Rating: 3.5 Stars
MY THOUGHTS I've been waiting to read this book for almost two years, since the book was titled "Library Jumpers". That was all I needed to know in order to need this book! This book wasn't as much as I hoped for, mostly due to the romance, but the fantasy elements were amazing and I did enjoy this book!
After being sucked into a book and ending up in a library in Paris, Gia's life is changed forever. They discover Sentinels, magical knights that travel across libraries to protect the human race from various creatures. Now, Gia and her friends are in danger from these creatures and whether they like it or not, they're now in this new world. Gia may be involved more than she realized.
The main idea behind this book sounds absolutely fantastic! A fantasy that is based around libraries? A booknerd's dream! I loved the idea behind this book! This book also has a very complex magic system. I thought that all the magical and fantasy elements were very interesting. They were a bit hard for me to wrap my head around at first, but in the end, I was very impressed by the world Brenda Drake created.
A lot did definitely happen in this book, which may also factor why my head was spinning so much. Gia also founds out a whole lot of stuff in a short period of time, some about the world, some about her, some about other things. There is a lot of information in this book and I still feel like I don't know anything, that there are answers that I still need. I hope my questions will be answered in the other books in the series!
Gia is a lover of libraries and a bit of a tomboy. I liked Gia. She annoyed me at points, due to the romance (which I will get to), but she was a great MC most of the time. We're thrown into this world with Gia and both of us are still trying to understand it. She cares deeply for her friends and family, and on that thought, they too are really great characters. I can't say that I love her as an MC though. She's great, but I've read many books with similar MCs.
The romance is the main reason why I didn't enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. I don't have much luck with romance in books and it's very hard for me to like a romance in books because it's just so easy for an annoying trope to sneak in. This book was no different. First of all, once a guy was described as hot and with a snazzy accent, I knew that we've found the love interest. The romance just felt too much like insta-love. Arik is not a bad guy, but sometimes all I ever really felt the attraction was based on was the fact that he was really hot, because Gia thought about that a lot. I know there was more to it, but it happened so fast! Add in the fact that of course it was forbidden and of course there's some really hot French girl, with big boobs, hanging around Arik. I'm sorry, but I'm getting sick of these tropes in YA. Maybe eventually, as the series continues, I'll be less annoyed. Also, another guy was introduced and is it wrong that I actually want a love triangle? I kind of want to know more about the other guy.
IN CONCLUSION Okay, despite my annoyance with the romance, this was a great book. It introduced a very new and unique fantasy world with a very complex magic system! I enjoyed reading this book and I'm very curious what will happen next as the series continues....more

MY THOUGHTS I really enjoy the books in Woodcutter Sisters series, though this one is probably my least favorite. I still enjoyed it, though!
This book is focused on Friday, one of the Woodcutter sisters. After an ocean grows across the land, refugees stumble into the castle. Friday tries to help with the growing population, but ends up stumbling into a room full of naked men. Turns out that the men have been cursed to be swans during the day. Friday has to help the men stop their curse as well as a tyrant that has taken over their kingdom.
While this is the third book in a series, you can read this book in any order, since they each focus on a different character and story. Like the others, this book is a fairy-tale mash-up and while I couldn't recognize all the references, I love the fairy-tale quality and overall fantasy aspect to these books! Sure, they can be ridiculous and unbelievable, but that's what's fun about them!
As for characters, I loved them. I liked all of the brothers, they were a very interesting bunch, as well as their sister. Friday was a really great MC. She's very sweet, caring, and selfless. Even before she discovers the brothers, she was helping out all of the children at the castle. She's also very strong, in a sense that she is more than willing to help others. She's the type of character that I love to see, but never seen to get a major role in YA books.
My issues wit this book mainly lie on the romance. "She takes one look at Tristan and knows he's her future". *gags* Sorry, but I can't stand romances like this. It's all basically just one look and they knew their meant to be together. I know most fairy-tales have very cliche romances, but it doesn't mean I have to like them.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, I enjoyed this book! I love the fairy-tale aspects in these books and the characters were great! It's not my favorite in the Woodcutter series, mostly because of the romance, but it's still a great book. Supposedly, the author is writing books for the other sisters, so I'm looking forward to that!...more
MY THOUGHTS This book wasn't quite as I expected. I was expecting This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd

MY THOUGHTS This book wasn't quite as I expected. I was expecting a bloody dystopian full of non-stop action, which I got, but I was also expecting a book that would knock my socks off and gain a spot on my favorites list, which I did not get. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this book, but my socks stayed firmly on my feet.
For the first 100 pages, maybe even 200, I was really enjoying this book! I could easily imagine what was going on in the book, the characters were brave and badass (which makes sense for this world), and I was in awe at how much creativity and imagination it took to create this unique world. I was also very curious and intrigued by the world! I wanted, no, I needed to know more! And I speed through those pages!
And then I begun to get confused as to what was going on. And I began to realize that while the author is an amazing writer (really amazing!), but I noticed that she doesn't really elaborate. For example: There's one scene where Meadow is forced to face the Dark Time (which is basically where all the murders occur) outside by her Dad on her own. But we never see her do this. In fact, it is never mentioned, but it seemed important. There are other cases where characters may so something that seems important or needs further explanation but the comment never receives any acknowledgment. And there are other scenes that I honestly felt as if they needed more explaining, to ease the confusion. It wasn't that bad though. Sure, I was a bit confused, but I could understand a basis of what was going on. I just kind of wish things for further explained.
That is my only major issue with this book. Although, I did have a minor issue with the romance. There's inst-love and I really hate insta-love. There, I said it. So, yeah, the romance annoyed the stars out of me (You see what I did there? I used Zephyr's swear word!) , but it wasn't too bad because there was 1. a period of no romance whatsoever and 2. the focus of the book was heavily placed on the plot! So it was very easy to ignore.
IN CONCLUSION This wasn't as awesome as I expected it to be, but I did enjoy it overall!
