MY THOUGHTS I say this a lot but I am an absolute sucker for books within books, so the concept of this book immediately intrigued me!
Tuesday's mother is Serendipity Smith, the famous author of the Vivienne Small books. The last book in the series is currently being written and Tuesday cannot wait for her mother to be done. But it seems to be taking her mother too long, so Tuesday goes into her mother's office and finds that she's gone, her window open and her story still unfinished. Tuesday thinks there is something wrong, despite her father's reassures. Her mother must be stuck at The End, so Tuesday starts her own story and gets swept into the world where stories are made.
This book has such a unique concept! So many books about books feature characters coming to life or people traveling in books (not that either of these are bad concepts because I still found them fascinating!), this book focused more on the writer aspect. The act of writing in this book can take you to a whole other world. In this word, though, it is entirely based on your writing. There are places that are meant to help you write, like The Library, but there namely is a place that is entirely the world in your book and you are meant to control it. I loved this concept and how it was portrayed. I admit I am jealous because I would love to literally travel to another world when I am writing and to live it (although, this might be frightening if you are writing a particularly dangerous book). I love all the little writer tidbits throughout the book, such as the library of unfinished books and the food writers eat.
Tuesday was a fantastic character! She has a strong personality and a lot of bravery for a kid her age. Sure, sometimes she doesn't feel brave, but it takes guts to go on this adventure to find her mother. I thought it was interesting how Tuesday was so positive that her mother was stuck at The End, because, yeah, that is a notorious place for writers to get stuck. But I think Tuesday really does change throughout the course of the book. She isn't on her adventure for very long, but she realizes how brave she really is and, more importantly, that she is a writer. Like I mentioned before, this book really shows a love for writing. In this book, Tuesday is so used to her mother writing that she associates writing with her mom. Tuesday did not consider herself a writer, but only writers can go into this world. I just loved how Tuesday came to this realization and how by the end of the book she had so much excitement for writing and this world she traveled to.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, this was a fantastic book! It has a very unique concept and I loved how it showed writing! This was a really fun and quick read. I already have the next book checked out from the library and I hope to read it soon!...more

Short and Simple Review I picked this book up because it looked like a heartfelt MG book featuring the love of dogs. This book wasn't quite what I expected. I thought the dog would be more prominent. There was a bit where Charlie decided that the stray wondering around would become hers, but this was over really quickly so it wasn't as much of a dog book as I expected. That being said, this was still a wonderful book. It talks about some difficult things, such as family issues, but it is discussed in a voice that fits the age of the MC. I really liked Charlie and it made my heart hurt at times because she wanted a family and was prone to being angry. Overall this was a quick read and this would certainly be an MG book that I would recommend....more
MY THOUGHTS 1965: Victoria's mother is dying and she's being abused by This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd

MY THOUGHTS 1965: Victoria's mother is dying and she's being abused by her father. When the circus comes to town, she takes her chance and asks for a job, creating a new life for herself. Now: Callie is a tightrope-walker at her family circus, at least, she was until her mom decides to move her and Callie to an animal sanctuary. Both Victoria and Callie think that their situation is only temporary.
Once I read the synopsis to this book, I knew I had to read it. This was a wonderfully written book and I was drawn into the story. The book is in dual POV, switching between Victoria and Callie. I loved that this book has a dual perspective of family, within two different time periods. So many YA books use dual POV for romance and it was a breath of fresh air to see it used differently.
Out of the two narratives, Victoria's was my favorite. She was such a strong character, even though she didn't always feel strong, because she worked hard once she was in the circus and she had the courage to run away from her dangerous home environment. She really grows so much throughout her chapters and it was written extraordinarily well. Her story is also a bit more interesting. Yes, there is the historical backdrop and the circus setting that made it interesting, but there was an actual story progression in her chapters that made me want to keep reading forward. Even though I knew how parts of her story would end, thanks to Callie's chapters, and I knew that it would break my heart, I wanted to see how it got there.
Callie's chapters didn't interest me as much. Partially because I didn't like Callie very much. She lived in the circus her whole life but didn't care enough about anyone (except her grandmother) to make friendships with anyone. It made me a bit sad, honestly, but her character came off as obnoxious because she didn't seem to care about anyone else and just wanted to go back to the circus. Unlike Victoria, who had more of a reason to want to leave her home life and become her own person, Callie's reasoning just didn't feel as strong. I did like seeing her connection with tightrope-walking and all of her grandmother's notes helping her along. Callie's chapters worked the best when they felt like they were intertwined with Victoria's story, but there wasn't much of a plot driving her chapters, and I just wanted to go back to Victoria's chapters.
IN CONCLUSION Overall, this is a fantastic book, wonderfully narrated, and I loved the focus on family. Again, I preferred Victoria's story to Callie's and that greatly affected my rating, but I did like seeing hints of Victoria in Callie's chapters. The ending punches you in the gut. It hurts and I am again astounded by Victoria's strength. This is the first book I've read by Lisa Fiedler, but I will keep my eyes open for any more YA from her in the future. ...more

Short and Simple Review After reading The Poet X, I immediately added this book to my to-read list. It is clear that Acevedo is a wonderful writer and even in the prose of this book the poetic language is there. Emoni's voice is strong in this book and her passion for cooking shined in the pages. I really liked that this book showed Emoni as a mother, but that was not the focus of the book. So many YA books like to focus on the teen mother aspect, but being a mother is just a part of Emoni. This book shows her as a person who has goals and works hard to achieve them even with many other things in life trying to work against her. I will admit that I don't love this book as much as The Poet X, but I still think this is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it. I will definitely be reading more from Acevedo in the future. ...more

Short and Simple Review This was one of those bittersweet books that makes you laugh but also makes your heart break. This book switches between Delia and Josie. Each POV has a clear voice specific to each girl and oftentimes their own stories, but the girls are best friends and the repertoire together was just fantastic. I don't think there are enough books featuring female friendships in YA and this book definitely gave me female friendship in such an authentic way. While there are other things happening in this book, such as Delia trying to find her dad and Josie's relationship with Lawson, at its heart this book is about a strong friendship. This isn't the first book I've read by Zentner, but I now definitely plan on reading his debut book and any other books he publishes in the future....more
Short and Simple Review I originally added this book to my TBR list right after I read This and other reviews can be found on The Psychotic Nerd
Short and Simple Review I originally added this book to my TBR list right after I read Tash Hearts Tolstoy and all I really knew about it then was that it was going to take place in Kansas so I automatically wanted to read it (I'm from Kansas, okay? And there are not enough YA books that take place in Kansas. Granted I want more YA books that take place near the city. Why does everyone automatically think of rural when it comes to Kansas?). I'm not sure if the geography made sense, but I was really drawn into this book. The setting was very atmospheric, not just the small town setting, but there was such a clear feeling of summer and the '70s. The pacing was slow throughout a majority of the book, but that did not bother me. It just put a focus on the characters and I loved both Stella's and Galliard's perspectives. As the book progressed the pacing quickened in a very exciting rate. The last portion had a hint of magical realism and I'm still not sure what happened, but I overall liked this book. Also, I'm glad the Cosmosphere at least got a tiny shoutout at the very end. ...more

MY THOUGHTS I was so excited to read this book! A book with a protagonist that is a writer, her character comes to life, and IT IS ABOUT PARALLEL UNIVERSES!! HECK YES! Fun fact: Parallel worlds are one of my favorite things to read about. I find the idea of parallel worlds just so intriguing! Some parts of this book disappointed me, but by the end I was deeply immersed!
I had difficulty getting into this book at first. In the beginning, this book is very cheesy. Jessa is a normal girl who enjoys writing stories based on her dreams. One day, she literally runs into the man of her dreams and the character she writes the most about, Finn. He tells her that they are Travelers, able to travel through dimensions, and she is in danger. Part of my problem was that Finn played the cliche role of mysterious but attractive stranger in the beginning and, in the beginning, the book was feeling like your average YA book. It didn't help that we also had a huge info-dump at the very beginning of the book. But as Finn became more of a person and less of a cliche and as Jenna actually traveled to other worlds instead of being told about them, I found the book much more entertaining!
I really liked how DeLano incorporated the parallel universes. I found it interesting that Jenna traveled to the other worlds via mirrors and would then trade places with her mirror self. It was also slightly amusing how, when she returned to her own world, she generally find that her mirror self changed things (changed clothes, cut her hair, etc). We also got to see a wide variety of different worlds, some very different, some very similar to Jenna's world. Though, there were some worlds that were favorites of hers. I also thought it interesting how Jenna dreamed about the other worlds. There are still some questions I have about the worlds, because I always want to know more about parallel worlds, but I get the feeling DeLano will go more into detail as the series continues.
As far as romance, I wasn't exactly on board with it, but I didn't dislike it. Part of it could've have been that I didn't have the best first impressions of Finn, so it was hard to ship them. It wasn't bad though and I did like their relationship. It did kind of bother me that Jenna ignored Ben, her best friend, in favor of Finn. And I know it's hard to explain something as strange as parallel worlds to friends, but I wish she told him about the worlds. I do have a slight feeling that there might be a love triangle in the next books.
IN CONCLUSION I am close to giving this book 4 stars, but because of my early misgivings, I dropped half a star. By the end of this book I was really enjoying it and based on the way the book ended I am really excited to read the next book! All in all, I do recommend this book and if anymore has trouble getting into this book, keep going! This book was a wonderful read full of parallel worlds!...more
