Holy damn demon shifters!!!!!! This was an absolute wild ride and I LOVED every hectic and chaotic moment!!! I haven’t been fully absorbed into a bookHoly damn demon shifters!!!!!! This was an absolute wild ride and I LOVED every hectic and chaotic moment!!! I haven’t been fully absorbed into a book well since book 3 was released and THIS ONE takes a whole new level! Whilst you think you can keep up there’s some epic plot curves and I AM HERE FOR IT!! There’s things I saw coming and things I didn’t want to be right about but DANG it’s a whole new world actually reading it!! I’m so intrigued with this world and I LOVED that this book didn’t hold back. So buckle up for a wild ride and enjoy where the wild shifters drag you.
But my words did that book end with SOOOOO many bam bam BAM moments! Eeep I was in my element and I absolutely CANNOT wait to see where the next book takes me!!! Seriously don’t walk RUN to one-click this book baby you NEEDS it in your life!!!
Hey, hey Ramblers!! Welcome to my first ARC read of the year and daaaang was it one that I LOVED and completely DEVOURED!! I was more than a little sad to see this book come to an end.
There was so much to love about this book and I can't express how much I loved falling back into the Shadowguard world. I remember when the first one came out in 2019? I was lucky enough to get my hands on the ARC of that one too and I just adored how Samantha wrote. Since then, I've fallen into each one of her worlds and loved them all. Her writing style and ability to weave a story has always had a way of catching my attention and holding it. And this new series is no different. I can't tell you how fast I fell in love with the main character, Andie. She's one you just can't help but connect with and love. Then add in the other characters and don't forget about the plot, it's just the icing on the cake.
But gah, I don't know where to start with this book. Sooo much stuff happens in it and I don't know if I can really talk about that stuff, without letting spoilers out. Coz trust me the words are in the book title.
I’m going to try and keep it simple, at the beginning of the book Andie and her partner are staking out a dark lab, that’s been doing some messed up tests on paranormals. When Andie jumps in to protect a prisoner, she changes the course of her life. Now she’s learning that Fae are real and she’s been called in for her first and biggest mission. And now she and a few other chosen are headed to this new unfamiliar realm, to make an alliance with the Fae queen. Or so they were led to believe…
[image]
Cue all the crazy things that await you in this book, there's more than one thing going on in this story and I loved seeing that. I can't wait to see where Samantha will take this series but I'm seriously here for it. I loved the characters and the bantering between a favourite pair...maybe I should drop a little sneaksie into that. You guys will like that, I'm sure.
“Why are you laughing?” A smile settles on his face. “I find your boldness amusing… and refreshing.” “It’s bold to call someone out for being a jerk?” “When that someone is a lord, yes.” “Well, my apologies, Lord Thalore.” I lower myself into a mocking bow. “I didn’t know the rules.” It doesn’t escape me that I am now the one being incredibly rude and disrespectful. I don’t know what’s come over me. But something about this male gets under my skin. I look up, expecting to see a p!s*ed off fae, but Lord Thalore looks far from angry. Still grinning, he says, "I believe I requested you call me Thal." I raise my brows. "That doesn't seem appropriate." "I suppose not," he allows. "But neither does reprimanding a lord." Touché
I'm so excited for you all to dive into this new series by Samantha (Find here ---> A Court Of Debt and Deception). It's truly incredible and I just love how much it sucked me right in. It was a struggle to put down because so much stuff was just continually going on and my brain loved it. Amazing work Samantha!

PS please apologise if this review has more mistakes or doesn't make much sense, I've been crazy sick after having an iron infusion and then getting a really severe infection so my brain is still really out of it.
Everly is coming at us with another new series (or technically spin-off prequel series) that I think most urban fantasy lovers will be dyingHey guys!
Everly is coming at us with another new series (or technically spin-off prequel series) that I think most urban fantasy lovers will be dying for!! I'll be honest, this one did take me a decent amount of time to truly get me in and I'm honestly not sure why that was but it was a good 60% before I was fully grabbed...but don't take this to mean that the moments before this point weren't good, I just might've needed more time to sink into this new story! Towards the end, I was lost inside of the budding story and now I really need more information and to see where it all goes! It just came bursting to life at that end point!
There are so many different facets going on within this story and it seriously has so much potential. Secrets, revenge and betrayal are where this story is dwelling and I have a feeling it's going to be hard to keep on top of this plot. You think you know where it's going and in certain areas I called it, but I just know it's going to get so much deeper than what we've see in this book…it'll go so much deeper. This book is only the tip of the iceberg and I'm here for it. I love those kinds of books that just keep you guessing.
I'm loving the characters and that almost instant pack mentality our main characters form. The natural connections they all have is something I really adored. The dark creatures banning together and having each other's back is something they are going to need for their journey ahead. I was nearly ready to stage a rebellion though towards the end.
But thankfully that was rectified so no hurtin' was necessary lol.
And eep absolutely loved that little bonus chapter at the end!! I seriously live for those small snippet chapters.
Thank you as always, to Everly for continuously providing worlds that allow me to escape reality and become immersed in a world where anything is possible. I can't wait to see where this dark urban fantasy story will take me, even if that leaves me here...
[image] I was provided with this book as an ARC, in place for an honest review and as always these are my honest thoughts on this book. Please note I receive nothing in place for my honest review.
"You are a beautiful darkness," he says, his gaze devouring me, his lips curving upward. "And I can't wait for you to unleash your rage on the world."
Oh my words I continued to love this story and the characters and was totally here for it all! The journey these guys went through and the friendshipsOh my words I continued to love this story and the characters and was totally here for it all! The journey these guys went through and the friendships and family within this story was what touched me the most. I feel that was the centre of what this story was about. Like it kinda went full circle. How Dawsyn was trying to find her place in the world and go out on her own to find her path, but in the end she relied on her family and friends to get through the times and that was truly so beautiful! ...more
Ohhh my words I knew I needed this book but I didn't truly know how much I would crave it! Jokes on me right? coz should've figured that one out with Everly. But of late I've been struggling to be truly snagged and captivated by a book and this book did all that for me. I'm not even kidding. This series is going to be a new favourite. I just know it.
I was hooked from the first page to this unique story that began to build. I know I say this a bit but Everly is a master story weaver...one minute I was reading and then a whole world came alive, transporting me to it in the blink of an eye; Easily being able to imagine the world practically instantly. What a skill that is. She just grabs you and keeps on going. Instant teleportation is totally a thing and you can't convince me otherwise.
There were so many aspects to this story that I loved. The characters for one were beautifully created which made them feel so authentic and real. The plot has all these intricate details that only left me wanting to know more about this world. It was such a unique take on a paranormal read of shifters created from magic but with Everly's own little twist. There are so many places this story can lead you and leaves you second-guessing everything and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Unable to put the book down. It felt, to me, like it was extremely well thought out (but not without making you think it was too much) and the story developed at the perfect pace and naturally too. The ebb and flow of information was on point. All I can say is...
Let's just touch briefly on what we are looking at for this story...well, we get some backstory right from the beginning. We start by seeing our F/MC at a young age facing the destruction of her people and fighting to keep her twin siblings safe. She's willing to give her life for them and if you hadn't already fallen for this character, this is the moment you will. She's willing to do anything just to keep them safe, even if that means becoming a captive to the new ruler of her city.
Blacksmiths once ran the town with a cruel fist but times have changed and now the Blacksmith has become the weapon used to protect the humans against the monsters, that threaten the town when the blood-rain falls. You are brought into a world where hybrid beings were created by the hand of a cruel Blacksmith (essentially what they sound like but they use their forging tools to imbue their power into their creations, so to speak - but I'm gonna leave some mystery to that) and a world on shaky grounds and facing a new threat. The majority of humans still live in their past hurt, that these Blacksmiths caused...and the last remaining one, under the thumb of their leader, the Vandawolf, is paying the price of that hurt. For a crime she never committed. In fact, she remains one of the strongest, pure and kind-hearted of women.
Be prepared to be brought into a world of power and a world where nothing is quite as it seems. There are twists and turns that'll have you hooked and you won't even know you're in trouble, if you even want to call it that, until it's too late. It got me hook, line and sinker. I'm done for. I'm weak when it comes to Everly...but this book is like the chocolate ganache on your favourite chocolate cake. And I'm gonna devour it with everything in me.
Now let the waiting game commence. Ugh, I hate this part. When it comes to books, I'm not made for patience. I need more dangit!
But for Everly, I will try my best to not be a pest or nag but just know it will be HAARRRDD work. Until then I guess this will be me.
Thank you, Everly, for another series I can absolutely obsess over. You never cease to amaze me and all the new worlds you create. I really needed this book and the escape that it provided. And I cannot wait til I can get more. I just adored these characters and the story that's been created for us. This has become a new favourite of mine and I can't thank you enough for the new journey that we have set out on.
If you love fantasy-based books in unpredictable worlds, this is a book that I 1000% recommend you reading!! If you enjoyed books like From Blood and Ash by Jennifer Armentrout I think you are going to be dying to get your hands on this series! So be sure to preorder this incredible read that has me just needing, craving more. Be sure you are all ready for its release on the 2nd June! You can find it here ---> A Sky Like Blood.

In the meantime, I need to learn to somehow function after that book. Book-hangover alert. The crash back to reality was a long and jolting one.
I'm just going to leave you with one of my favourite quotes that stood out to me in this read:
"Always remember that you are strong." I draw Gallium closer as I hug them both. "Always remember that if you love someone with all your heart, you've already won any battle that might come your way."
Please note that I did receive this book as an ARC but as always this is my honest ramble on this book. Please note that I receive nothing in place for my honest review.

I really liked the fact that even though the MC wasn’t a physical fighter, that we still get to see so much strength from her and she doesn’t just take something sitting down. She’s all fight and fire and I loved that about her.
Can’t wait to see where this story will lead with the next “king”…war is coming and is on their borders, now we just need all the kingdoms to get on the same page to take down the crazy Queen.
For more sensitive readers please note that there are some scenes that could be upsetting, so please read with care.

Dang duuude WTH!? After that ending, I am not okay right now. That took a chaotic nose dive real fast. Miss Heather, I am not happy with you. You need some book time-out until your evil side takes a break and you start playing nice with your characters. Gaaah...just how could you make her choose that after everything she'd finally settled on? Sigh. No spoilers...All I will say is you know what you did.
I need more pronto...like rights now. Someones needs to be knoxed out and hopefully permanently and soon! I have some problems that need to be fixed. Soooo gimme-gimme.
Now I have no clue what to do with myself. I've already done the obvious first step, eat my feelings in chocolate... but surely I'm not just meant to wait? Pfft...me is not a fan of that option at all. Nope. Nope. Nope.
[image] I be needing some of this right now! I'm desperate for more!
In case many of you aren't aware, this is how I express my love of a book. If I'm feeling all these things and being an impatient, dramatic soul, it means that Heather did her job in snagging me in and making me invested in how this story plays out. I must say, I really loved so many elements in this story. The characters were just so lovable from the start...and can I just have a moment to freak out that this is the next generation from WOLF KISSED!
Okay, back on track...now it's time to begin Dawsyn and Cillian's story and boy does it go off with a bang. Dawsyn, ready to find her own feet in the world, she has a plan, but sometimes plans are made to have a detour...and oh boy, is Dawsyn in for a journey! A journey that'll prove, to her, that not all plans are the right one for the time and they most certainly can be modified. To be able to bend and accommodate to the new. She is in for a journey that teaches her many things and that it's okay if you just let things fall where they may. No matter how crazy that new pathway looks.
And fate definitely has its own plans for her...ones that will change the course of her whole future and may just lead to what she'd been searching for from the very beginning.
And I can't say I can disagree with fate. Coz that comes with one schmexy dragon shifter. But of course, things are not going to be smooth sailing. For one, Dawsyn is most certainly not after a mate just after finding her freedom at Mystics Academy. But she was most certainly not prepared for him to show up in the form of a dragon shifter. One very swoon-worthy and slightly moody dragon I might add. From the very beginning, of these two meeting, they just gave me all the good and angsty entertaining vibes. I was here for it. Every second.
Just to give you a quick sneak peek at what you are in for...I give you folks...Dawsyn and Cillian.
...He looked down, brow raised and head cocked. “Are you challenging me?” “Yep.” I let the ‘p’ pop loudly. “Do you accept?” He chuckled. “Do I have a choice?” I didn’t bother to answer. I just stared him down, chest rising and falling rapidly, thanks to my growing wrath. “Fine.” He sighed, the sound mixed with annoyance and frustration. “I accept.” Instead of letting go of him and expecting him to follow, I kept the tight hold on his shirt and dragged his tall a** around the table. “Am I a dog you’re trying to leash?” he asked as we got to the stairs. “You’re a big F***ing pain in my a$$,” I said harshly. He gasped dramatically, but I forced my eyes to keep looking toward the front door of the library that I intended to drag him out of. “That’s quite the colorful language, Dawsyn,” he goaded, but I didn’t bite. Not yet anyway. I’d show him colorful as soon as I got him in the gym next door. I was about to start and finish World War III, with Cillian as the only casualty.
Okay, so that was just one look into the starting of their life and I just know these two will not disappoint you! I'm totally here for it. But let's look a little at Cillian's side, since yaaaay to dual POV!!
Now, Cillian has come to the Academy with the weight of saving his own realm, his home, things are drastically worsening there and he is searching for the answer...when instead he finds his mate just months after turning up. He was certainly not prepared for Dawsyn Chase, our little miss stubborn girl with feistiness as her brekkie meal. But our boy loves a challenge and is willing to convince her that he's not going anywhere.
Will they be able to stop butting heads and work together to save Cillian's home before it's too late? I guess you'll just have to read to find out for yourselves. ...more

The story and character development are everything. I just loved so many aspects of this book and how it forever left me wanting more...it just has a way of being able to body snatch me into the world so wholly. Not even kidding, so many times I was just swept away into this world and easily became invested, once more, in what was happening. For me, it did feel like it took a little bit Of time before the story truly started developing, along with the connection to characters…but once I was far enough in the characters and story growth intrigued me. Let’s just say I’m very curious about one particular Fae, that definitely has a few secrets of his own.

Awww my words another series has come to an end and this one closed the chapter on Foster and Andie’s story oh so beautifully. I really loved how this book came to a close. It wrapped everything up so perfectly.
I really loved how the epilogue gave a view into what the future would bring/look like. Sometimes with some books you are still left needing more of a final picture, and for me Heather nailed that!
This story is such a wild ride and I loved watching on to see how it would all play out. There’s the ups and downs and somewhere’s in between and you are only going to want more. You are going to love the journey this book will take you on.

Holy flippin' Fae wine. That. That was the most adrenaline-pumping, emotionally-stirring, edge of your seat worthy read. And I'm sad to see some of my fav character's story come to a close...but seriously exceptional read. It was all tied up so perfectly (well outside of the fact that it ended lol...but we can't have everything, now can we?) And since nothing can really meet the energy of the kid from Incredibles, this gif feels hella appropriate for this book.

So who's ready and excited to dive into this final book and follow Thorn and Caleb as they race against the clock that is ticking down faster and faster? If you are sane, you won't be able to help but read this book because how couldn't you? You should've already been well and truly sucked into this world by now after three ahh-mazing books...and if anything like me wholly addicted.
Gah...I don't even know what to say, to be honest, to get across how much I enjoyed each and every torturous moment of this journey. It just had it all for me and ticked all the boxes. I just loved how on the edge of the seat it made me. The world creation and story telling is just something else. It's the kind of story that wraps itself not just around your heart but every being of you. It's like you breathed in every emotion that the characters were going through. There's this one particular scene that had my heart breaking in all these itty bitty fragments...it didn't matter that I knew it would be fixed somehow, I just couldn't help but feel it, all of it. It's like Jena just reached into my heart and demanded that I feel everything and played me like I was a dang instrument. Maybe she secretly is some sort of siren fantasy being. It wouldn't surprise me. But I feel I kinda ask for it at the same time lol being all like...
[image] [image]
Which I think just honestly opens up the flood gates for Jena and all authors really...and they take it on whole heartedly...
And then you are maybe sorta left wondering what the hell was wrong with you for thinking you could handle it like that pro you said you were. Yeah, unlikely story...I more likely lean more towards this side of things ...more
