Fallen Fae #1

Forbidden Legacy

Rate this book
Stealing from the fae is easy, but working with one to retrieve the relic I was hired to swipe? Not so much.

The job was supposed to be simple: Sneak in, break the wards, grab the necklace, and get out. Being arrested for the murder of a high-profile Autumn Court fae was definitely not part of the plan.

I’m cleared of the crime and sent home, but the dead fae's arrogant grandson shows up at my door. He demands I help him retrieve the thing I never had a chance to take, though he neglects to tell me the item's true worth. In the battle for power between the fae Courts, the necklace is beyond priceless and there's more than one person willing to kill for it.

But my new associate is not the only person with secrets, and the teenage dragon shifter who lives with me in the human realm is only one of mine. After all, I haven’t spent the past six years hiding in a seedy section of post-Merge Chicago for fun.

Forced out of obscurity and on the trail of a blood magic wielding murderer, I’ll have to work quickly in order to prevent disaster. Because if we can’t find the necklace before it’s too late, then the fate of all the Courts may be at stake.

Forbidden Legacy is the first book of the Fallen Fae trilogy, an exciting new adult urban fantasy series with magic, mystery, and a slow-burn romance.

Book One: Forbidden Legacy
Book Two: Forgotten Heir
Book Three: Forsaken Crown

The only person she knows who had a subscription to Writer's Digest at eleven and was always excited to write research papers, Theresa has been putting words to paper since a young age. Living in the mountains of central Virginia with her husband and two kids, she works as a paralegal by day, binges on Netflix at night and finds bits of time in between reading almost everything she can get her hands on and laundry to craft stories that tend to feature broken characters in sci-fi or paranormal worlds, with a touch of romance thrown in for good measure.

She's constantly lost in one fictional universe or another and is a self-proclaimed “fangirl” who loves being sucked in to new books or TV shows. Theresa originally wanted to write horror novels as an ode to her childhood passion for Stephen King novels, but between her internal Muse’s ramblings and the constant praise for her sci-fi pieces from her writer’s group – The Rebel Writers – she knew she should stick with what was working.

Forbidden Legacy was a fabulous start to this trilogy!  With dread pooling in my stomach, the first chapter sucked me right in!  Magic swirled within the story while deals were made, motives were unknown, and there were moments that I didn't know if they would make it out alive.  This story was impossible to put down and an instant fave!
My truths are one of the few things that belong to me and I refuse to give them up without a fight.

I absolutely loved Ari!  She was from the Winter Court and kept a low profile in the human world.  She did odd jobs, using her ability to take down wards, to survive.  So when Declan swept into her world, I couldn't stop smiling! Declan was from the Autumn Court and Ari had no problem putting him in his place!  I loved watching her play with words, and I loved how confident she was of herself.  Of her skills.  And I loved her even more because she helped take care of Finn, a teenage dragon shifter.  However, Ari held her cards close to her chest and protected those that she cared for fiercely.  She would literally go to the ends of the world for them.  But she didn't let others in easily, or at all.  I was nervous for Declan, if he would be able to knock down her walls.
If I had any sense at all, I’d walk away right now.
The problem is, I think it’s too late for that.

I am obsessed with Declan.  He was a full blooded Fae who was arrogant and saw the world differently than Ari.  He definitely made some assumptions that were wrong, like about Ari.  But not only did Declan grow in leaps and bounds from the beginning of the first book to the end, so much of who he was beautiful.  He took responsibility.  He protected others.  He was smile inducing and I loved some of the tricks he pulled on Ari.  His words, his actions, his loyalty, and his ability to go all in made it so easy to fall for and love Declan. But I also loved that Declan pushed Ari.  And tried his best to knock down her walls.  I so desperately wish I could have known his thoughts!
I have to get away.
I can’t stay here.
I can’t breathe.
I’m going to die.

Forbidden Legacy had a slow burn romance that will definitely be worth the wait!  Not only were Ari and Declan from different courts, but they both had lots of secrets.  Being stuck in perilous situations forced them to trust and rely on each other’s magic, and one other, to survive.  I loved how that led them to letting their guard down at moments or sharing something about themselves.  It was smile inducing and gave me so much hope! Through it all, I felt desire laced in some of their interactions.  Whether it was a look or a phrase, it left me so hopeful.  Because I kept wishing that they could be together.  They would be a formidable team.  So the moments they went that extra length to do something for the other, I don't even have words for how happy it made me.  I just wanted to push them together and never let them be apart lol!
I reach up and take one of his hands, linking my fingers with his and squeezing his hand. “I’ve got you.”

Rounding out the story where side characters that came alive.  Finn was my absolute favorite among them, and I am beyond intrigued by Agatha!  There were also characters that I would love to see destroyed!  So many moments I had sweaty palms as truths surfaced and paths were set in motion.  And while I guessed one of the twists, there's still so much for us to learn and figure out.  Forbidden Legacy was an addictive story that will take you on a spellbinding adventure!  Brimming with banter, fabulous characters and a story-line that makes it so easy to devour, this book was such a huge win!  The ending of this story left us at the perfect stopping place.  We can breathe but we're also left beyond excited for that next book!  If you're a fan of slow burn romance, I can't recommend this book enough!

Can’t wait for more!

I’m a sucker for fae books. I’m also a sucker for urban fantasy, so this book definitely hits two of my favorites. Great world building that doesn’t leave me scratching my head and a strong FMC who isn’t TSTL are my other sweet spots. Plus there’s a dragon. AND HE IS THE BEST. I have more words to say about this book, but I’m still coming off the high of reading this book in less than a day.

For a huge book addict like myself, there is nothing better the reading a new Author and becoming addicted to the point where you do not just "Want" the next book, but you "NEED" the next one!
Forbidden Legacy by: Theresa Kay is absolutely one of them!
One of the things that I loved was the wonderful character development. As you move through the story there are so many different secrets revealed, and so many more to discover.
I do not want to say too much, but I cannot wait to read the next book and continue my adventure! I highly recommend this one!

This was honestly a good read and I loved being swallowed up into the fantasy world. It was an easy world to get lost in and I liked so much about it!

For me, it did feel like it took a little bit Of time before the story truly started developing, along with the connection to characters…but once I was far enough in the characters and story growth intrigued me. Let’s just say I’m very curious about one particular Fae, that definitely has a few secrets of his own.

I’m so curious about so many things and can’t wait to see where it’ll all lead. So much crazy and adventures are on the horizon and I for one can’t wait to see and be taken on this wild ride. Thanks Theresa for a great read that easily transported me into a world where my chaotic life took a back seat for a little while.

Happy reading all!

I had never read this author before, but the blurb sounded interesting, and she’s been on my radar for a while. I started it, and I was immediately drawn into the book. The simplicity of the writing at first hides the more complex and interesting plot that develops as the book moves on. There are secrets galore that are revealed one at a time, and there are even more secrets waiting in the wings. Declan, Finn, and Ari are great characters who are complex, interesting, and different, and I want to learn more about them in the next book. This book is well-written, interesting, and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I have become a big fan of this author because Broken Skies trilogy, and I was looking forward to reading this new series. this one featured a new heroine and the premise piqued my interest. this was a really good book, it’s quick paced and the characters are greaaat. the heroine, Arielle, is strong, smart, and independent, she’s remind me of Jax from Broken Skies trilogy. Declan is such a sweeet fae and there’s a techie Dragon-shifter named Finn. Yess DRAGON

description

The world-building was interesting as well and I liked all the Fae Court was divided by the Season. I really enjoy the adventure and romance that takes place in this book, the romance was good but not dominating the plot and the mystery was compelling. overall I like this book! fae, magic, mystery, strong friendships, and a very slow burn romance that had me internally screaming "will you please just kiss alreadyyy?" and after that ending, I just cannot wait to see how everything will play out and what happens next with the cast of characters. this book leaves me with too many unanswered unknowns until the next book, not fair :( now I'm really looking forward for book two.

Thank you so much to Theresa Kay for the opportunity to read and review an ARC of this book. It’s an honor and privilege to me

This book was engrossing from the start. The characters are authentic, and we get to watch them grow over the events of the story. The premise is interesting, as is the world created by the Merge. The pacing is smooth and kept me turning pages- I didn't want to put it down. This is one of the better novels I've read lately. I abolutely loved it, and I can't wait for the next book to come out. Highly recommended!.

I did like that it was back to back action in this book. I love the relationship and chemistry between Ari and Declan. I wish she trusted him more and shared a bit more about her past with him, but I am hopeful that that will come in the next book of the series. I also like that Finn got to come out of his shell a little bit towards the end and played a role in saving Ari. I cant wait to see how the story progresses.

Forbidden Legacy is an action-packed, magical adventure through Chicago and the adjoining Fae world that will delight YA fantasy readers. Ari is a kick butt heroine with a haunted past in the fae world. Declan is a swoon-worthy hunk (and I can't wait to learn more about him in book 2), and Finn is everything I want in a sidekick character. You can really tell him and Ari care about each other in a brother/sister way, which was refreshing. The way magic is set up in this world, with the Merge of human and Fae worlds, is very well done and the magic system is believable. It's clever how each magic user has their own "gift" that is unique to them. I am looking forward to book 2!

Great book

Ari and Finn…Fae and dragon, escapees from the Fae realm now living in the human world. Ari flies under the radar of the Fae registry, which makes it hard to support a family of two. So she becomes a thief for hire. With the unreliable income, an offer too good to refuse is presented to her. And thus begins her tale of loss, attraction, and the return to the Fae realm she truly fears.
I look forward to book two.

Urgh. I could've kicked myself! Reading a book that's not stand-alone, but seemingly abandoned after just one book.

It was GOOD. I want MORE.

So read at your own peril. It doesn't end on a cliff hanger. But there's still some strands that would've clearly been addressed in a 2nd book. And the romance JUST started! It was so sweet and cute. And no 2nd book.

So sad. Still. One of the better books I've read this year. So probably still worth it.

We have so action and so many secrets to follow Ari has so much going for her character to love. We have Declan you thinks only about himself, but you get to watch him grow. So follow the twist this story takes and not to wait for the next book to figure some of them out.

This was a decent book! I am confused about the incubus and her. I thought I read they where in a relationship. Maybe I read that wrong! Anyway. Hopefully one day Ari can actually trust someone!

An amazing first book in a series that will intrigue you. Stealing from the Fae isn’t a great idea, especially if you get caught. Having to help find what she set out to find in the first place doesn’t seem fair. Enjoyable.

The story was good. A few plot drops I thought. The characters were interesting but not much real chemistry. Maybe the sequel will give me the more rounded characters.

Fun, easy supernatural reading

The storyline so far is kind of predictable but that didn’t make it boring. Am looking forward to the next installment.

DNF

I felt so bad for dnf'ing since I got Forbidden Legacy as an ARC, but I had to give my honest opinion. I completed about 50% of the book but I just could not bring myself to read any further.

The main reason for that was because I thought that the plot was overused, and nothing just motivated me to keep on reading. The book did not make me curious to know what was going to happen, nor did I want to keep reading after setting it down for a while.

The book did have a few good things like the male main character did not have the clichéd dark hair, the female main character was genuinely badass, and some descriptions of the supernatural world and creatures were really well done.

All in all, I would not recommend this book to anyone, but if you came across it and wanted to give it a try, I would totally encourage you.
