Although the misunderstandings in volume one frustrated me, that volume still felt fresh and funny. This one did not. I still think the relationship is cute, but in here it was overshadowed by random plot lines that of course led to more miscommunication.
There were things about this that I really enjoyed. I appreciate Riichi's assertiveness in the latter half of volume two. I also thought the flashback revealing everyone's childhood connection was sweet, and I loved Nobu (though I had hoped he would end up with Kaito).
Unfortunately, these elements weren't enough to push this rating any higher. Everything else was just too chaotic....more

I finished this volume wanting nothing more than to protect these two. Neither one really knows how to connect with another person, and are handling their loneliness and pain in different ways. Together though, there's the start of some healing and it moved me quite a bit. Also, on a lighter note, there's a pet pig and it's adorable....more

This was so much better than volume one. Character motivations are explored, backgrounds are revealed, and I genuinely care about the romance now. Plus I did not see the twist at the end coming (assuming it means what I think it means), and that's even more exciting for me....more

A person who becomes a plant is given money and an extra two years of life before they lose their humanity.
The main character is tired of suffering and sees this as his way out. But he has a unique talent to communicate with these plants that hasn't been seen before.
I don't particularly like the art in this, but I admit that the harshness results in sufficiently creepy plant people, and is a good reflection of a world in which everyone is miserable.
This is another heavy read, as it depicts some scenes of horrific domestic abuse. It's such an intriguing read though, and I'll definitely be reading more....more

This is such an underrated gem. At first a story about soldiers fighting for humanity against an infection that turns humans into mindless monsters, it ultimately becomes a story of love, and an affirmation of life and choice. It is perhaps a bit heavy handed at times, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment, as I was swept away by the story and its characters.
The love between Miyaji and Minami is the strongest element here, but there are plenty of other interesting characters. My other favorite ended up being Kawakami, who I hated in volume one, but the growth he undergoes is significant and well done.
I wish we were given more time to "rest" with the characters after the main events. I especially wanted some more Miyaji/Minami content. But the author does provide an epilogue of sorts, and just like real-life it's bittersweet.
This is heavy series. There is a lot of disturbing imagery, and a lot of discussion of death. But it is also hopeful. The author wrote that she used this story as a way of processing the inevitability of certain tragedies in life, and it works well within that theme.
Overall, this wasn't perfect, but it was beautiful and emotional, and I'm so glad I read it....more
