One noblewoman's attempt to rewrite the past--and avoid her descent into villainy. (And don't miss the original light novels, also from Seven Seas!) Succumbing to long-simmering jealousy over her younger sister, noblewoman Violette snaps and does something terrible. As she languishes in prison, something unexpected happens: time is rewound, sending her back to the day she first met her sister! Armed with the memories of her disastrous first go-round, Violette is determined to take the script in a different direction this time.
I have waited a year, A YEAR, to read this volume and it was more than worth the wait!! It was so so so good!!! I absolutely adore Vio as a heroine and find how she is able to do the opposite of what she wants to do with such grace. Like I have ZERO idea how she does it!
That's probably why I also love love love Yulan so so so much in this manga! I could care less for Prince Claudia and will be SO upset if he does anything to try and "steal" her from Yulan! Just UGHHHHH! Milan is too smart as a retainer and have no doubts he is going to try and work up something so that the Prince can have Vio. But I'm also just like, "You think Vio was smiling about YOU, Prince Claudia. HA! It was about the TEA, not YOU! HAHAHAHA!" *coughs* Moving on though...
It has been interesting seeing more of Maryjune and will also say very surprising because I didn't expect us to see much of her anymore. Granted, Vio was thinking the exact same thing, but Maryjune is causing all kinds of changes and definitely here in seeing what's going to happen next.
Overall, this was an AMAZING sequel with it being one of the strongest sequels I've read recently! Volume one was one of my favorite reads last year and came in desperately hoping I would still feel the same with volume two, but I felt that and more! I really enjoyed seeing some backstories into the lives of these characters and why they do and say what they do as well as see what is going to happen next.
This is definitely still in my favorite series and cannot wait to FINALLY read volume three since it releases next month (please don't get pushed back release date!!), especially since Yulan is on the cover!!
This was so much better than volume one. Character motivations are explored, backgrounds are revealed, and I genuinely care about the romance now. Plus I did not see the twist at the end coming (assuming it means what I think it means), and that's even more exciting for me.
While this manga has the same rating as the one prior, make no mistake it is a lot better by at least '0.5'. I felt like this novel did a better job at pointing out love interests, explaining her darker backstory with the heavy expectations of her father, and even her own personal interests. I'm actually interested to see where this continues and am extremely happy to see the manga is trying to fill in more of the gaps from the prior volume.
I really enjoyed this volume! I love how much self-reflecting Violette is doing; it really shows how much a person can change and gain insight into themselves when they reflect on their past actions. Again, it would have been nice to have seen Violette in her "villainess" phase rather than be told or shown flashbacks, but I still like seeing the contrast between her past and present self.
This volume also doles out a lot of backstory regarding Violette's upbringing and while it doesn't excuse her actions, it most definitely explains them. Violette's mother is definitely in the to 20 list of Bad Manga Parents because WOW, the shit she put Violette through it would have been a miracle if Violette became a functional member of society. I also really liked seeing Yulan's backstory (some of it, at least) and thought it was sweet how close he was to Violette as well as how much he admired her. I'm praying the end up together, I am 120% down for this ship.
I went into this series with relatively low expectations, but I'm really enjoying it. I hope it keeps getting better!
I like this second volume of this series slightly better than the first but it doesn't really wow me especially compared to all of the other series with this same exact plot.
I was hoping we'd get more backstory on what led to Violet's villain path and I was not let down. Man, that was painful. I really hate her parents. I mean, don't try and murder your sibling, but I can certainly see what lead to her snapping now and Maryjune's mother is just as culpable. I swear Maryjune and the maid are the only ones in that household that care for Violet.
And as for Maryjune, it's hilarious to see Violet realize that her sister is basically a boring Mary Sue without her to make her more interesting by being the villain. Because for a lot of stories with bland characters, it's so true. If there was not a villain around to cause trouble for them we would have no reason to be interested in them much less root for them.
Though I do wonder for how long Violet can resist their sisterhood. Say what you will about Maryjune being a simple soul, but she is genuinely nice to Violet and seems like the only person actually willing to act like a family member to her. I have to admit, I would like them to become friends or at least see Maryjune become a more realized character like Violet.
But it looks like the monastery is more and more unlikely because once Violet stopped trying to play people like chess pieces, they actually LIKE her, which is heartwarming to see. Even people who shunned her before. And actually, that is who she is and how she was before things in her life got worse and worse.
I'm sad that I have to wait until December to see what comes next.
I couldn't sleep so finally around 4 am, I decided to read some manga.
Violette is still trying to keep to herself and make it through the next year so that she can finally cut ties to her family.
But when Prince Claudia's cape is torn, she contemplates whether she should sew it or not (she learned how to sew when she was in jail). She decides to fix it and he performs. Similar to Maryjune. Where her parents praises her even though she tells them how much Violette helped her, their Dad brushes it up.
Prince Claudia comes to the conclusion that Violette no longer has any feelings for him, but I am starting to think that he is starting to notice her because of how she is now acting.
Violette and Yulan makes plans for a study session but things change when MaryJune, Prince Claudia and his assistant show up.
From Yulan's flashback, I have a suspicion that he may have gone back a year as well as Violette. So many he is trying to prevent from repeating itself.
Violette also come s to the realization that Maryjune as only interesting because of her. She kept torturing causing people to take a liking to her to protect her. Without that, people have to reason to fall for her like Prince Claudia did.
I am not sure where this is going to go or who I want Violette to end up with: Prince Claudia or Yulan. Though her plan to leave once she is able doesnt sound like a bad idea if that is really what she wants.
Looking forward to volume 3 and reading the light novel when I get the chance.
Again, the classism is gross. A commoner and the prince lightly bump into eachother and the prince’s cape gets a tiny tear. Everyone blames the commoner and a guy yells at him. Then, Maryjune stands up for the commoner saying don’t be rude. Then the FL says ‘so you blame the prince then?’. The prince says it’s ok I wasn’t paying attention either. Then later the dude that was yelling says Maryjune insulted the prince by standing up for the commoner. Ok, how is it more of the commoners fault then the prince? And why is the prince seen as such a great guy for admitting the truth that he wasn’t paying attention and neither was the commoner. How is it insulting that the prince is partly to blame for not paying attention? Also, when the prince is about to go on stage with a teeny tiny rip in his cape, the FL is like oh nooo. He can’t go up there looking like that. Oh prince you cannot appear disheveled in public! This is right after he says he will just go on stage with a tiny rip. Quoting what the FL says to Maryjune: “as nobility we, as a class, decide what’s right and wrong. We stand above commoners and guide them never forget that we must always set an example.” Ok yeah nope. Again, i find this gross. What i do like is that at the end of the book there is a short bit that is novel writing without comic strips that is a more detailed writing of a part of this story. I thought that was different and welcome. I keep reading this for the what’s going to happen next feeling and for the possible romance. I want to know what the FL is going to actually do.

Violette admits that she never made proper efforts to get to know Prince Claudia but is also confused that a relationship is not developing between him and Maryjun like in the former timeline. Violette spends most of her time with her childhood friend Yulan—only to have their study session invaded by the student council officers. * * * * *----------* * * * *----------* * * * * This arc continues the themes established in the first at a slow pace. Maryjun seems oblivious to the torment she puts her sister through and Violette just takes it because she doesn’t want to die in prison. It’s not super comfortable but is maintained so that Maryjun is not a wholly unlikable by doing things intentionally hostile. At least the logic of Mirania—aide to the Crown Prince—makes more sense, in that Violette’s newly displayed gentleness and compassion make her more suited as a fiancée candidate than her earlier arrogant efforts to kindle a relationship with Claudia. Meanwhile the tragic backstory of our reformed villainess is taking shape. Predictable and safe.

I can’t even express how good this volume was. Like seriously 100/10. I was actually a bit surprised that Claude had gotten feelings for Violette and it kinda annoyed me. Like right after she lost feeling for him he had to come in out of no where and have feelings for her. But the thing that made me so happy was hearing how Julien was in love with Violette. My heart can’t express how happy I am. I seriously need to know what happens in Vol.3!!
Like the story is just Amazing! The characters Amazing, everything just amazing! I so recommend this. I seriously wish there were more stars you could choose from because I would’ve done 100/5 stars!
Violette seems to be getting closer to Yulan, while her plans to pair her sister and the prince together aren't going as well. The end of this volume leads to questions if Yulan may also be aware of Violette's previous fate and how this tale seems to be unwinding differently along the way. We get a nice side story towards the end of when Violette and Yulan met as children and how Yulan started falling for Vio. The text chapter at the end focuses on Claudia and Milania, though they are discussing the two sisters and their qualities and behavior. Seems they are both on the fence about Violette's change of heart and actions with this second time around.

I'm so invested in what's going to happen to the characters. I originally almost skipped over it because the title made me think it wouldn't be all that good. I'm so glad that u was wrong. It's lol funny and shows that people CAN change for the better if they really want to. Can't wait to see what happens in the next few volumes!
Oh this is getting so good. The drama has me thriving. I'm all for team Yulan. Claudia cannot simply switch his feelings the second Violette stopped chasing for his affections and expect me to root for him. Nuh uh.
I'm going to suffer waiting for these next volumes!!
