Really tried to give this a fair shot, but I’m gonna have to call it. I almost quit around 30% (view spoiler)[when they decided to fuck on the dead grandfather’s tombstone (hide spoiler)], thought I’d tough it out and finish it anyway, and ended up having to read (view spoiler)[about the gun dildo. If done right, gun and knife play can be sort of hot, with that undertone of danger and pain, but these two kids were just dumb (hide spoiler)]. The writing isn’t the best, and it’s more porn than plot at this point. And not good porn, unfortunately. Not worth losing brain cells over.

Let’s start with the positives. The world building was intriguingly complex and well built. I don’t really see enough resemblance to the original fairy tale to call this a retelling, but more of an urban fantasy. Also, the magic and supernatural elements were interesting and if it weren’t for those I would’ve quit sooner.
The romance is what made me DNF. There was no development between the characters, no actual connections - just instant lust. Wotan goes from almost killing Ryder to fucking him so many times I was getting whiplash.
The lore wasn’t enough to keep my attention, and the interactions between the characters had me skimming and skipping. ...more

While this book had some good elements that I enjoyed, I was mostly confused and underwhelmed. It being a part of a horror series, I kept waiting for the actual horror and ended up being majorly disappointed.
“I want to be young and beautiful forever.” “You are the flame, Adam,” he says, “burning so brightly. You’re all that anyone can see.”
Beautiful Adam is about an extremely toxic and unhealthy relationship, unredeemable and unlikable characters and no actual important plot line.
“I believe I have something in common with your teammates,” I confess. “What’s that?” “I also like to ruin pretty things.”
Adam and Cassius were problematic, vain and superficial, completely narcissistic, which, I guess, is the whole point of the book. I just didn’t vibe well with it. I’m all for evil characters remaining evil throughout, but these two were on another level.
Now buckle up for quite the list of content warnings.

Amazing, unique and creepy dark/paranormal romance.
The horror elements were everything I didn’t know I wanted in a MM romance. This book kept me on my toes and gasping the whole way through. I liked that the evil still remains evil at the end — there is no redemption, no trying to be better people.
My only issue, which is why this doesn’t get a full five, is Ari’s denial phase was way too long and frustrating. He’s looking straight at the demon but still be like ‘you need help Theo, you’re crazy’ ...more
