The excitement and fun never seems to end in this series. Wicked Little Secrets doesn't suffer from second book syndrome, instead it charges forward and demands readers attention. I loved reading about Anne and all of the trouble she can cause in just a few hours. It's a thriller that isn't all about the planning and clues, it also doesn't have an overbearing romance. It has just the right amounts of almost everything. That being said, there are a few things that are off. As a person with a pretty small tolerance for info-dumping I found the beginning to be a little like even dismissing the recaps for the first book. Another problem that I had is with our protagonist, Anne (I still adore her though) and her friendship with her friend Chelsea. For someone she calls her best friend, Anne never talks to Chelsea and only mentions her in passing. I wanted more from this friendship because Chelsea is part of the old Anne, the one that I'm sure many people want to know more about and I felt let down by this. Hopefully her best friend is in the last book.
Nonetheless, this book is still great. I loved the writing, it's still as smooth as ever and the romance isn't in your face. It's a lot laid back than I thought, only finding cracks in the story to seep into. Although I'm team Brent, the romances with both guys are really well done. Another thing that I enjoyed about the story is the action because it isn't boring and there's a constant stream of it with not too much planning. The characters for the most part are great, Anne is a lot wilder and committed than ever (she punches a guy in the face to defend her friend!). The problems that I had in the first novel are pretty much gone in this one. Remy feels a lot more real, letting her past and emotions through this time. Moreover, the sarcasm is so good! It's not constant that it feels annoying nor is it far between that it feels forced. It's perfection. Wicked little Secrets is pretty intense but in a more fun than dark way. The ending will keep readers at the edge of their seats and craving for the last one. I recommend this series to anyone looking for a thriller that isn't boring and straightforward. I'm hoping that the last one is just as good....more

3.5 Interesting Clouds!
It's extremely important for everyone to understand our pasts so that we can hopefully never repeat them again or at least to the same extent. Prisoner of Night and Fog is a great novel in the sense that it's a retelling of most of World War two and the build-up towards it. This series is pretty much going to be the WW2 part of any history class (hopefully) and I actually enjoyed it a lot. Not only did I like the fictional, but the non fictional ones as well. I've never been a fan of historical fiction and much less of anything non fiction yet I couldn't put this book down.
Although it takes a lot of work working with non fictional characters, Blankman does a great job. However, in the beginning with the Jew that her brother wanted to beat up. The whole incident felt really forced to get the story going. Another thing that felt forced is the second half of the novel where the romance is so clichéd and contrived that I wanted to puke. Gretchen went from this badass girl who was uncertain about her family and willing to get answers to this girl who needed her 'man' almost all the time. The mystery aspect of the novel is actually really boring, there's a lot of planning and searching but not enough of anything else until the end of the story.
Prisoner of Night and Fog is still an excellent book. The relationship between Gretchen and Hitler is very well done and shows the decline of their trust in one another. Moreover, Blankman did a lot of research for the story and it really shows. Small details that most people overlook play big roles in the not only this story but the actual war. Despite disliking Gretchen during the last quarter of the story, I really liked her. She was strong and brave, using her clever wit to get past the people who stand in her way.
Overall, I do recommend this book to everyone. It's historical fiction yes, but it's also about one of the worst cases of genocide the world has ever seen. It's not all that gory but it's intense and I have a lot of faith in this author to get really in-depth with the whole series....more

Now that I'm getting into more mythology, I know for a fact that this series, The Blooming Goddess Series is definitely one of my favourite ones! It's just so fun with just enough seriousness that I get that life isn't just fun and games. Tellulah Darling really outdoes herself and adds in more fun and a lot more action with Gods and Goddesses that I wasn't necessarily expecting to make an appearance in this. Although it has it's faults, this is a really solid story that had me hooked from the beginning all the way to the end! I can;t wait for the final novel now.
Something that I wanted to happen in the novel was for the friendship between Hannah and Sophie to be tested a lot more that it is and for them to face many obstacles, emotionally and not just physically. Their relationship in the first one is believable but in this one, it just seems a bit forced without much of the jealousy and pain that I would think Hannah would encounter upon following her friends on such a crazy ride.
Sophie is better than before! Her dark humour and anger are back with such intensity that I found myself re-reading a passage just to laugh again. And again. And again. I also loved that there aren't any new love interests in this novel. With most second novels, there's usually another love interest that's added to the bunch but I enjoyed that the new characters have no interest in Sophie or Kai but instead in the other secondary characters. Finally, Hannah gets to experience some loving! The relationship between Kai and Sophie is complex and steamy at best. And I. Love. All. Of. It. Seriously, I was either laughing really hard or seriously jealous of Sophie because of the way kai treats her like the Goddess that she is. My Date from Hell is spicy and sweet with just the right amount of action. I recommend this novel to anyone who has read the first one and recommend this series to anyone looking for something about Greek mythology that's fun, has loads of action, and all the Gods and Goddesses are in young adult form! (For most, anyway.)...more

Wow. I'm utterly blown away with this novel and the rich text that Jay Kristoff has written it in. Buruu is one character that, at many times, holds my attention and puts a smile on my face. This is such a lovely novel that t first, is tough to get into but hard to leave when it's over.
Stormdancer is written with rich writing and a beautifully done world that I love being in. Unfortunately, the problem with many rich worlds with bounteous description is that the descriptions become irritatingly annoying and I find myself missing simple writing a lot while reading. I've never read a novel about Japanese mythology so I find it hard and annoying to have to constantly check out the glossary for every word that I don't understand (there are many).
Nonetheless, the world building is beautiful, the mythical and majestic Buruu feels more than realistic. Yukiko has an awesome gift that's different from all the other characters in other books I've ever read and although not many people have her gift, I like that she's not the only one who has it in the story. I also love the relationship between Buruu and Yukiko because it's well done but I feel like it could have been better since some parts move a little too quickly with their friendship. There's a lot of action and obstacles that help keep the story interesting and fun.
All in all, this is a great start to a series that I'll probably read until the very end. And even though most of the characters feel a bit stiff at times, I recommend this to anyone who loves mythology, strong friendships, and a killer heroine.

Dissonance is a well paced story that doesn't delve into the science behind the multiverse too much. I had a lot of fun reading about Del's crazy life and her hardships and those of the people around her. However, I wanted to like this one a lot for than I did. I wanted a kick ass heroine who knew how to make her own decisions without help. Del is a pretty badass character and I loved reading about her but I hated how much her life surrounded Simon even before everything went downhill. I wanted her to stick true to her image or at least to her goal. Still, a great novel that's refreshing!
The beginning is the most confusing part of all. Although there is a lot of action and interesting things happening, there's so most info-dumping and name dropping that it all felt like a huge whirlwind that barely made any sense. The romance is predictable and I disliked almost all of it. Nothing about Simon stood out to me and I couldn't understand the connection that Del has for him especially when she breaks a huge amount of rules to keep him from leaving her.
Nonetheless, Erica O'Rourke has taken an idea that's starting to be more common in YA books and added a refreshing writing style and a new perspective. I couldn't get enough of Del's voice! It's so different and reckless that I found myself staying up to get the book done. The world building is well done and very tricky considering all of the different choices and things that happen. I also liked how some chapters started off with a rule that Walkers have to follow.
Even though there are a few flaws in this book, for the most part, I really liked it. It's fast paced and fully of cool twists. The characters are fun, the worlds are great, and even though the ending is predictable and crazy cheesy, I'm extremely excited to read the next book in this exciting new series. I recommend this book to anyone who's read and liked stories about alternate universes and fun characters. ...more

4.5 Bad-Ass Clouds!
Ashes to Ashes, the final novel in the revenge driven Burn for Burn series has final come to an end. And boy, is it a crazy ride. With the girls still reeling from the events that took place in the second book, Fire with Fire, everything seems strange. The girls are on completely different pages with each other and it's not a good thing. Mary has officially lost her sweet girl nature that readers saw in the first and a little of the second book and is now psycho. Lillia is still an innocent flower but without being that innocent anymore, her role in many things take a toll on her and especially her relationship with Reeve. Kat seems to be the least one that's ready to throw in the towel and I think that's why I love her the most. She's funny and seems to look on the bright side and keeps fighting. While they all go through their last few months of school, they all have to really figure things out and I loved how unpredictable the story gets to keep people in the dark.
Near the beginning of the book and for the whole series it seems, is that the books start off fairly slow and then slowly pick up speed until the very end. It's a pretty good build-up however, I don't like how long it took me to be engrossed into the book.
This series has other consistent qualities that are shown to be good things like the short chapters. In Ashes to Ashes, the chapters are so short that it's hard to put the book down. "One more chapter," quickly turns into, "might as well finish the rest of the book even though it's five am in the morning." It also helps that the writing is addicting and the characters are well-developed that I easily knew whose chapter I was reading without even thinking about it. Adding onto what I said about the characters, they are great. They've really grown up since Burn for Burn and it truly shows in their demeanour and the way the speak about things. Also, the relationship between Lillia and Reeve is so cute! I liked it in the other book but I loved it in this one! It's all ups and downs, highs and lows and sooo unpredictable. I honestly thought that in the end, things would end up different between them but I still liked how Han and Vivian decided to go with it. Moreover, the ending! The penultimate chapter especially! It's all freaky and messed up and awesome! There's so much suspense, will Mary forgive Reeve? Or will she make him suffer the same way she did? I loved how everything went, especially with the girls and Reeve, the way he questions his sanity and his life. I felt how realistic everything became and I was really happy with how it all ended. It's pretty crazy, not gonna lie.
Han and Vivian have come so far with this trilogy. The girls all started out with blinded rage and naive minds towards most things to grown up and realize just how risky it is to get revenge instead of giving forgiveness. Some people are really shitty, end of story. However, some people are shitty because they are dealt that hand and then they try their best to change it. This is evident with Reeve especially and I think that people who didn't like him before will start to like him now. I recommend this series to anyone who loves revenge driven plots, a bit of romance, and killer twists!

Oh, Alex London, You had my attention from the first page, then lost it and then snatched it up again. The characters are well written and nicely developed, giving readers a protagonist they will love (Syd, I love that boy) and one to hate (Knox needs to get high-fived in the face. With a frying pan.) Unfortunately, the explanation behind the world building comes a little too late as well as the reasons for Knox being such an ass all of the time. Nonetheless, I really liked this one and can't wait for the next.
The novel lost my attention during the middle, although it had a lot of action and suspense and just, aweness (for a lack of a better word) with Syd and Knox, I felt bored and found myself skimming the pages to get to the better parts. Syd and Egan are best friends but at many times, their relationship felt contrived to me and I couldn't believe some of the things that Egan does in order to help Syd out. With that being said, it's obvious that some things in this book feel too nicely done for my liking.
Syd is an awesome character, not only is he a character that I wanted to beat up all of the bad guys, I also wanted him to get the guy and have that happy ending that he so totally deserves. Even with him being the 'chosen one' it didn't make too much of an annoying statement. I really liked the idea for the novel as well with and how it really uses the lesson, Everything has consequences to its advantage, London does an excellent job of portraying that. The book also doesn't have a lot of romance in it which I loved! There was only enough that I think the author will bring it out some more in the next book but didn't let it overtake the story. Proxy has a great ending also. I was expecting the whole thing to be predictable but then it wasn't. The ending is really open, readers won't be sure of anything.
Overall, quite a great read that I think a lot of people will enjoy. I recommend this to anyone who loves science fiction novels with an excellent message about life. I'm hoping that the sequel to Proxy will blow me away better than this one! ...more

Sweet Reckoning is so boring and I couldn't help but be upset by it. Kaidan, the boy that I swooned over for some time turns into a complete lovesick loser in this book and I understand that he's in love but come on! Keep it interesting! This is the last book in this trilogy and I couldn't help but feel disappointed by it.
I also had a problem with the length of the book. I'm being honest when I say that it could have been cut down by AT LEAST 200 pages. Because those first two hundred pages are completely pointless. What makes me even more angry though is how it all went down in the end. I mean, seriously? It's boring and predictable. Ugh.
Nonetheless, I liked the writing and for the most part, most of the characters. I think that's it though.
Disappointed is an understatement for what I felt for this book. Sweet Reckoning was supposed to be the big finale, with a shit ton and stuff happening left and right. However, it's all just sitting around being all cute and whatever. This is still a good series, just lower your expectations when you get to this book. ...more

After reading Sylo, I feel like the events that happened to Tucker and his friends could possibly happen to my precious city. That’s just how realistic everything in the novel is. The setting is a small town which is typical but the ending made up for that and so did the killer plot.
What I didn’t like about the book was that the writing sounds a little too mature for the main character and the constant repetition about ‘The First Death’ and “We’re being left in the dark” etc. just got really bothersome and I found myself skipping a few pages because that’s all they talk about. Sylo could have been cut down but at least thirty because of this or more answers could have been answered.
There is a romance in the novel but it takes the back seat the whole time, giving way to the super secretive evil-murderer people who are trying to take over the island. The plot itself is so exciting and realistic and for the most part, so are the characters. Tori and Tucker take the lead and even though they’re just teens, they show tremendous strengths and courage to save their home.
Anyway, this is such a fun novel! I need to get my hands on Storm and find out what happens to Tori and Tucker and how they get answers! I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys science fiction novels and quite a few deaths along the way....more

But what happens when the people in her life are being threaten to be taken away from her? And that love really doesn’t change?
What I don’t like about this book is that it really bored me in the beginning and the storyline was just like all of the others. I also hated how there was the ‘I have to choose between these two brothers’ type of feeling to this book.
What I like about this is book is the ending. I never would have thought that Jenny Han would have put such a punch of an ending and then wrap it around into something special. I am dying to read the second book in this series by Jenny Han and see what happens....more

And although I started it about a year ago, I honestly thought that I wasn't going to finish it anytime soon. I am so glad that I did! Allison is such a badass character who's very fun to read about. The book is told from the perspective of Allison and at first, her life as a human and then her life as a vampire.
The Immortal Rules could have been shorter. Somewhere in the middle of the story, it starts to get sloppy and boring with Allison just exploring the place around her. I also don't like the way Julie Kagawa portrays the only other female character as this bitchy girl who hates Allison for no reason. Although this does happen in real life, I feel like she overdid this a little too much for my taste.
I love how cool and fearless Allison is even when facing dangerous, evil creatures (especially when she was human). It's a nice change-up from the average girl who needs to always be saved. The writing style throughout the book has this sense of dauntlessness to it. While reading this, I felt braver, as if I could kick some major Vampire ass of my own.
Nonetheless, this book is about vampires. It does take place in a post-apocalyptic setting but it's like many other dystopian. And I didn't care much for the romance (but Zeke is so precious though), I didn't feel annoyed by it. Julie Kagawa does a fine job writing a story about something so overdone and mainstream and putting her own little twists and turns to make it something different. I cannot wait to finally read The Eternity Cure which is the second book in the Blood Of Eden series....more

This is such a fun novel! I couldn't put it down, it's an easy read with lovely characters and great pacing. Some things are predictable, I knew who the killer was only after reading about Isabella's death but there are a few surprises that kept me at the edge my seat as well. So many things going on in the book that I think Kara Taylor did a fine job organizing.
Prep School Confidential has a few flaws that I couldn't overlook. Throughout the novel, there's quite a few clichés concerning the new girl and the mean girl and quite a bit slut shaming. Some characters like Remy feel really choppy and underdeveloped. Readers are told that she's nice and strong, etc. yet, there are only a few instances that proves this and she doesn't feel as real as I wished she should. Also, Isabella plays a huge part in the novel, both dead and alive. After her death, readers are told that Isabella was actually a completely different person but I didn't feel it. The information given is lacking and albeit there are points given that show that Isabella had a dark side, they could have been elaborated on.
The writing is so fun! It's light and laid back which makes it for a amusing read (even with murder in it). The romance in Prep School Confidential is so laid back and relaxed, nothing felt too contrived or fake to me and I loved it. I could see Anne with either one of them. Most of the characters are well written and beautifully developed, I felt satisfied with Anne and the obstacles she faces.
Overall, this is something I was not expecting. I went in hoping that I didn't want to punch every character and that the clichés were a small amount. Even with the clichés, Kara Taylor managed to entertain me with her tale of murder, mystery, love, and life without getting on my nerves too much. I recommend this to anyone looking for a great summer read to pass the time with some heavy tones but an overall light read. Now, I can't wait for the next book to come out!...more

I've always been skeptical of sequels because they rarely ever beat the original but, with this novel, I can tell that Gena Showalter put a lot of time making these characters realistic and trustworthy in a way that every single person, not only teenagers want in their lives. This time around, everything seems to matter far more than they did in the first one and I loved how complex yet simple the writing is. Everything has a second meaning and I was excited to return to the world of ghost zombies and the young slayers that kill them.
Many authors have trouble balancing out a creative plot with a nicely executed romance and while I do love Cole and Ali's relationship because it's so up and down and bitter-sweet, I found it to be a bit too much at times. Instead of focusing on her painful past and/or the zombies, most pages are full of her romance with Cole and how much he cares for her and is trying not to. I also don't like the ending solely because it's a little too nicely done and gives off the impression that everyone will turn out happy no matter what. I was hoping for one sad thing to happen to the slayers rather than what I received.
Ali Bell is quickly becoming a fun protagonist that I don't think I will ever mind reading about. She's tough, determined, and quite the caring person. I especially love the new twist that's added here and how she has to literally face her inner demon and fight for everyone she loves. There's so much action that I never felt bored, especially with the rest of the characters, they held my attention with their quirky remarks and realism that can only come from teens living a rough life.
What a fun ride it has been with Ali and her friends! It's so intense and heart-warming with many parts full of some serious zombie slaying as well as lovely chapter titles that give a zombie feel to classic sayings! Through the Zombie Glass is a novel that I recommend to readers who either love zombie books or love tons of action, a steamy romance, and some badass attitude from the protagonist! Now, I'm just dying to find out what the title for the third book will be!...more

Tellulah tells a story about a teenaged Goddess who has spunk, fight, and a very sarcastic mouth. The story is told from the perspective of Sophie Bloom A.K.A. Persephone. The beginning of the story is what I was expecting. It's too fast and far too much like a journal for my liking. Sophie seems to play everything out a little too much. There is also the never-ending amount of clichés. It also plays a lot into the high school stereotypes with the evil queen bee dating the hottest guy around and what-not. But somewhere in the middle, it changes and it's enjoyable and funny and I love it! Nonetheless, I love the relationship between Kai and Theo, it's hilarious and grin-worthy. The fights and sarcastic dialogue they use makes it hard to put the book down. My Ex From Hell is definitely a book to read on a rainy day.
I like the characters. I really do. But I hate how easily they accept that Sophie is a goddess with crazy powers. Sure, someone faints and everyone is like, "Omg! No! I don't believe it!" But I was expecting more disbelief and more... suspicion. I think Tellulah Darling could have played this out for a much longer period than she does in the book. It just did not feel real to me. Another thing I don't like about the book is that I'm constantly being pulled out of the story. Although it's mostly to make a funny point, being pulled out of the book at least twice in every chapter gets annoying.
Out of all the characters, I never thought that I would like the protagonist, Sophie the most. I never thought so because I usually don't like the protagonist the most in books. But I do, she's addicting with her quircky self, shooting balls of light at the bad guys. She kicks some serious ass and I love the romance between Sophie and Kai because it's entertaining. They always have something to yell at each other about.Greek myths and modern-day life intertwine beautifully with creatures that could easily pass as bikers and Scream impersonators. I wasn't expecting the ending with everything that's happened with the gang. A great twist to end the story with!
My Ex From Hell is a humourous and fun way to start a trilogy full of creepy creatures and annoying ex's. I recommend this to everyone who loves Greet Mythology and a romance that has been to Hell and back (literally). My Date From Hell comes out some time next year and I for one, cannot wait to read it!...more
