Growing up as a kid, I would watch some classics with my sisters. It was our bonding time and I loved it. The fact that The Accidental Highwayman is compared to The Princess Bride grabbed my attention at once! I love that movie! And in a few ways, this novel is like that movie (sorry guys! Haven't read the book!). There's a ton of action, helping the story stay interesting and on point with the potential of never-ending danger. The different types of mythical creatures that Kit and his friends face are all creative and unique.
Despite how fun this novel is, The Accidental Highwayman has a lot of info-dumping that only drags out the story. I found myself skipping a bunch paragraphs because they went on and on and on about random crap. Kit, the protagonist is adorable, however, he sounded more like a ten-year old boy than a sixteen year old one.
Still, Kit and Morgana's relationship is beyond adorable. It's a roller coaster of emotion, them constantly getting angry with the other yet trying to move forward. I felt for them and their little crushes! In addition, the little notes in the margins are great and makes the story feel realistic because I don't know phrases and words used in the 19th century and getting summaries on them helped me understand. The illustrations are beautifully done. Tripp knows how to artfully draw readers in with his visuals. I kept skipping the pages, looking around for the pictures, the full ones that have so much detail and so much emotion, and then I would gawk at them all before returning to the page I was on.
The Accidental Highwayman isn't a bad book. It does have a few similarities to The Princess Bride with the action, the friends and foes and I loved it. Still, it does feel a bit odd with the abundance of information and the characters feeling too young and things working out just...too well in some cases. I recommend this story to anyone looking for something sweet and fun, with great illustrations, an old yet well described setting and love when the good guy wins! (Sort of). Poems are awesome and I love seeing them more and more in the novels I read. Poisoned Apples has a story that will connect with most people. I really liked some of the poems, especially the ones that are modernized retellings of some very classic tales like Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and The Beauty and the Beast. Overall, a fun, very short read that takes no time to finish at all.
Although for the most part, I liked this book, I didn't like how random it is between the good parts. Some of them are very short and about nothing more than, like, Abercrombie or something. Adding onto that, in the middle, the book starts to dwindle down and I found myself skimming through some of them to get to the better, retellings parts.
Poisoned Apples is a short read. I breezed right through it in less than an hour. From the stories that I did enjoy, I liked them also because of their freakiness and the art work that goes with them. The hands acting like trees and water and whatnot is very cool and caught my attention.
I understand that some people believe that life is a fairy tale but I loved how Hepperman decided to make these retellings as realistic as possible and adding in problems that many people face today. I recommend this one to anyone looking to read either some short poems or fairy tales....more

Not a bad book at all! I really liked it, especially because of the characters that are well-developed. All in all, great start however, it could have been better if the story was scarier.
This is How it Ends is described as a suspenseful thriller with a bit of mystery. It's supposed to be scarier, not romantic. Don't get me wrong, I liked the story, it's great and really held my attention but I was expecting something other than what I got. Adding onto this, I wanted more, I wanted the woods to be freakier instead of just there. I wanted the relationship between Riley and Trip also. They're friends, best friends and I never really got the feel for it. The explanation for the binoculars is really bad and felt rushed. Nadol has a knack for putting things in a fresh light but not when it comes down to the ending.
Despite those things, I loved the writing. It's fresh and smooth and goes well with Riley's character. Moreover, Riley himself, is a great character that I could easily connect with. All of the other characters are well planned and thought out too. The visions are also cool! They could have been a bit creepier but I loved them. They're all different and mysterious, Nadol keeps the readers in the dark especially when it comes to one of the characters.
This is How it Ends is pretty awesome. The characters and setting are well described and I could picture it all. However, and this might not be the author's fault, the pitch to readers is all wrong and I have to deduct points because of that. Still, I recommend this book to anyone looking for something to read and love realistic characters. ...more

After finishing Kiersten White's Mind Games series, I can say that she has a strange style It's at first, really fucking annoying but starts to grow on you. And after reading, Illusions of Fate I say that this roller coaster of annoyance is a good thing because despite hating the beginning of her novels, I always come to enjoy them even if it's a little which is what happened with this book. It's all over the place but works itself out. It's a solid 'meh' type of book.
I wanted a more believable world from White. The book and characters get boring fairly quickly in the story because nothing happens but planning for this and that. Also, the reaction Jessamin has when she finds out Eleanor and Finn can practice magic is so unbelievable it's almost funny. Adding onto this, like I said before, the characters a bit boring. I wanted Jessamin to be a badass instead of only dipping her toe in the water that is badassness. She lets Finn do everything rather than doing it for herself. Moreover, the ending where Downpike explains everything felt forced and not something that would actually happen.
Still, the slow burn romance is actually really well done. As far as characters go, Eleanor is by far my favourite with her sassy tone. And of course the twists in the book are great, White doesn't tell everything and I liked this because it's on little things and I barely suspected a thing.
Illusions of Fate is a solid book. All of my blogger friends like it as well. I wouldn't say it's amazing or inspirational but it's something. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves gothic like stories with magic and evil guys....more

Oracles are cool. Don't believe anything else about them. Sure, they may be dangerous and mean but overall, they're great. Charlotte is not because she acts like a ten-year old when people from her school start getting murdered. Sure, she could have been in a shit ton of trouble for telling her aunt that she saw the visions but she thought that she was a grown up and decided she could do it on her own (See? ten-year olds think they can do EVERYTHING by themselves just because they've been alive for a decade.) Charlotte takes care of everything in such a juvenile way that I got a sore neck from all the head shaking I did whenever she got a vision or someone got killed. I was so disappointed with this one because the premise sounds good. Oracles and murders. What could go wrongs? Almost everything, that's what.
Right off the bat, the novel has a childish feel to it. I don't mind teens doing dumb shit and all that stuff but come on, this is just ridiculous. Moreover, all of the characters are flat and not at all well described. The ending is really forced. I knew who the killer was once they came into the picture, nothing exciting about that.
Nevertheless, the oracle aspect of the book, by far was my favourite. I just couldn't get enough! The visions! The suspense! The randomness of it all! So good.
Sleep No More is not a book I would call suspenseful because, it generally isn't. It's a bit predictable, childish, and dull. I can't say that I completely hated it but I came awfully close to it. I only recommend this to those who absolutely love oracles and stuff like that and don't mind dull, predictable plots.

Can you imagine ever reading someone’s mind? I mean, there has to be at least one person that you thought, “Man, if I could only know how they feel about…” that would just solve a few of your problems, right? Well, Don’t Even Think About It is like that. Sarah Mlynowski takes readers on a light-hearted ride into that What if world and shows us the good as well as the bad.
Unfortunately, this book is all it’s cracked up to be. Sure it’s entertaining and stuff (I’ll get into it later) but many of it is half-assed. The characters feel so flimsy and their relationships even more so contrived. I couldn’t bring myself to believe any of them, especially between Cooper and Mackenzie. They all felt like they’re in grade five rather grade ten by the way the talk about their crushes as well as the way they talk to each other. Another problem that I had with Don’t Even Think ABout It, was the ending and how unrealistic it is.
It’s still such a fun story though. I loved the writing style, the “we” tense is something new to me and I only read it briefly in Two Boys Kissing and I enjoyed it. It made me feel like one of them. The mind reading was the best part of the novel, people think all the time and I loved how Mlynowski showed this by adding random thoughts as well as serious one to the bunch. I read how certain thoughts relieved as well as crushed the characters and how this strange yet awesome ability changed their lives in more than just one way.
Mylnowski creates a hilarious world with realistic thoughts and albeit the characters are a bit one-dimensional, I enjoyed reading their powers and all the things they could do because of them. I recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a novel that doesn’t involve too much thinking. Because you may never know who’s listening...more

The summary for this sounds a lot creepier than the book actually is. You would think that when some crazy church cult is involved in kidnapping kids, shit is about to get good, right? Well not in Indigo Awakening since it's just a huge pile of boredom and unoriginality. After the initial excitement that I had upon reading the summary, I quickly started to skim the pages because everything is boring. Luke would have been an interesting character if it weren't for the fact that nothing other than his odd, vivid look on the world
Jordan Dane tries too hard. She tries and tries to fit in with teenagers today by making her character, Rayne say, 'LMAO' out loud (Who says that out loud?) and 'jacked up' among other annoying things with the humour being every bit cheesy and forced. What makes the novel worse is the relationship between Gabriel and Rayne because it is every bit complete insta-love. Gabe has been running for so very long but when his eyes stare into Rayne's, *sighs dramatically* he suddenly wants her and wants to risk everything for her. Because this is what happens in zoos when mysterious boys who call freaky animals out save your life.

Keep that creature in your head, think of how scary and fucked up it is, now turn it into a fluffy adorable version of itself. Disney-fy the shit out of it if you have to. That, is what you get in Talker 25. You get these badass creatures lying around sleeping and then getting ridden like some kind of pet. That's pretty much it and I'm sad to say it never gets any better.
Melissa, Mel, Callahan, whatever you want to call our protagonist is an idiot who thinks she's brave and has a lot of spunk. She doesn't. She's just stupid and naive. Half the time, she doesn't make sense. She has spent the better of three years fearing and hating dragons because of what they did to her mother, yet at the first chance she gets, she rides them. Why? Did I miss something in this sudden change? It makes no sense, if something killed my mother I would not under ant circumstance befriend it/them. On top of that, nothing is well explained. There are three types of dragons yet all I really understand about the green ones are that they're the most military like. The other two are lost causes to me nor do I care about them. The romance is also very pathetic and annoying since we have the protagonist be a snotty brat one second and then worried about the way she looks the next when a complete stranger who was following her knows her name. It's so forced and I really didn't see what the love interest saw in her. To make matters worse is the military, the US can make these insane weapons yet can't keep some teenagers out of a dangerous compound? The military in the book is a complete joke, maybe worse than the protagonist and the romance combined. They do nothing, think of nothing, and just allow these teenagers into the compound with fucking Dragons and don't even send these kids to jail because, "they were just having some fun." What the hell is this book? I believe in having fun and taking chances but this is a damn dragon compound. These kids could get killed and it seems that the military would still sit on their asses. *Shakes head*.
What did I like about this big joke of a novel? Believe it or not, despite the super cheesy summary, I was expecting something exciting and I liked what I thought was the concept of this story. Turns out that was a joke too.
Talker 25 is just bad, from every angle. From the first page, I was confused. Dragons aren't some kind of side plot, they are the plot or at least should be, so I would like to know about them before the 30% mark other than they're red or blue or green and the red and blue can mate. What the fuck am I supposed to do with that information? It also doesn't help that no one can make up their fucking minds on what the fuck to call our protagonist and I'm aware that this is silly but it's not. One sentence her friends are calling her Callahan, and then the next they're calling her Mel. Why? No reason, it's not to show anger or anything. I don't recommend this one to anyone because it is absolutely horrid and stupid and bad and you will either get really angry or really sleepy reading it....more

With each chapter a salute to better music, this book is an awesome read. Sure, the music isn't a huge part of the story but it's still intense. The magic, the town, and the people. The in between chapter at first don't make very much sense but after a while, they start to come together piece by piece. Unfortunately, the romance is contrived and pointless. I liked the love interest but he's too predictable with him and how things plays out. Still, I liked this book! It's really different.
The world building is pretty flimsy and spotty. Not very much is properly explained, I was left confused and only able to imagine half of this mysterious town. But that's not the only thing that's badly explained, there's the relationship between Elton and Skylar that's beyond half-assed. Even at the end, nothing about them is explained just like with the relationship between Foot and Skylar. Foot just sort of shows up and he has this blanket and then BAM! Everything and everyone is like, "OMG! This is the missing baby!" That's it.
Nevertheless, I did like the writing. It's really refreshing just like the cool way the author decided to name her chapters using song titles and then matching the song titles to the chapters. After I finished reading (Don't You) Forget About Me I went and listened to all of the songs mentioned. The only relationship that I did enjoy reading is the one between Piper and Skylar which is amazing and is explained so well and is so realistic that I was pretty shocked once the truth came out by the end of the novel. I felt the pain that Skylar felt when her family told her the truth.
(Don't You) Forget About Me is a mysterious story about a magical town. I loved the mood and the magic but hated the relationships and flimsy descriptions. Still, I recommend this to anyone who's looking for something creative and different to read about. Also if you need help with some old tunes to listen to....more

Now that I'm getting into more mythology, I know for a fact that this series, The Blooming Goddess Series is definitely one of my favourite ones! It's just so fun with just enough seriousness that I get that life isn't just fun and games. Tellulah Darling really outdoes herself and adds in more fun and a lot more action with Gods and Goddesses that I wasn't necessarily expecting to make an appearance in this. Although it has it's faults, this is a really solid story that had me hooked from the beginning all the way to the end! I can;t wait for the final novel now.
Something that I wanted to happen in the novel was for the friendship between Hannah and Sophie to be tested a lot more that it is and for them to face many obstacles, emotionally and not just physically. Their relationship in the first one is believable but in this one, it just seems a bit forced without much of the jealousy and pain that I would think Hannah would encounter upon following her friends on such a crazy ride.
Sophie is better than before! Her dark humour and anger are back with such intensity that I found myself re-reading a passage just to laugh again. And again. And again. I also loved that there aren't any new love interests in this novel. With most second novels, there's usually another love interest that's added to the bunch but I enjoyed that the new characters have no interest in Sophie or Kai but instead in the other secondary characters. Finally, Hannah gets to experience some loving! The relationship between Kai and Sophie is complex and steamy at best. And I. Love. All. Of. It. Seriously, I was either laughing really hard or seriously jealous of Sophie because of the way kai treats her like the Goddess that she is. My Date from Hell is spicy and sweet with just the right amount of action. I recommend this novel to anyone who has read the first one and recommend this series to anyone looking for something about Greek mythology that's fun, has loads of action, and all the Gods and Goddesses are in young adult form! Wow. I'm utterly blown away with this novel and the rich text that Jay Kristoff has written it in. Buruu is one character that, at many times, holds my attention and puts a smile on my face. This is such a lovely novel that t first, is tough to get into but hard to leave when it's over.
Stormdancer is written with rich writing and a beautifully done world that I love being in. Unfortunately, the problem with many rich worlds with bounteous description is that the descriptions become irritatingly annoying and I find myself missing simple writing a lot while reading. I've never read a novel about Japanese mythology so I find it hard and annoying to have to constantly check out the glossary for every word that I don't understand (there are many).
Nonetheless, the world building is beautiful, the mythical and majestic Buruu feels more than realistic. Yukiko has an awesome gift that's different from all the other characters in other books I've ever read and although not many people have her gift, I like that she's not the only one who has it in the story. I also love the relationship between Buruu and Yukiko because it's well done but I feel like it could have been better since some parts move a little too quickly with their friendship. There's a lot of action and obstacles that help keep the story interesting and fun.
All in all, this is a great start to a series that I'll probably read until the very end. And even though most of the characters feel a bit stiff at times, I recommend this to anyone who loves mythology, strong friendships, and a killer heroine.

From boredom. It seems to be an ongoing thing with this series. I liked The Nightmare Affairenough to warrant it three stars but I can't give this one anything higher than a two because I was so bored out of my mind that I had to stop reading it for two months. Partially because I had exams and family issues but two months is a very long time. There's just so much wrong with it that I could hardly care.
The story starts off pretty slow and ends pretty tiredly. The reason for this that there's so much time spent planning and talking and Dusty pretty much going, "who should I like now? Paul? Or Eli? Who? OOOhhhhh! Aaaaaahhhhh!" Adding onto that, the romance is very dulling. Nothing happens with it yet, for some reason, it plays a big part by never-dying down. It's unnecessary and stupid. Both guys suck. The characters are still not as well-developed as they should be and many events that take place feel far too coincidental and contrived for me to actually believe them every time.
Surprisingly, I did find that I liked a few things like the writing. For the most part, it's smooth and I hadn't actually realized the book was going in close to no direction until the middle. Also, at the end, the very (or second) last plot twist, I was not expecting and I liked that Arnett kept me guessing even if it wasn't for the whole novel.
The Nightmare Dilemma really let me down. I was expecting more since the first book was so entertaining but I didn't get what I wanted. I only recommend this book to people who have already read the first book and can swallow down the second to hopefully reach better things. However, I do recommend this series to anyone looking for a fun fantasy that's pretty funny and entertaining (the first book)....more

I don't understand why people feel the need to be complete assholes to strangers. I mean, you don't have to trust them but if they go out of their way to see if you're okay....Why? Just why? From the moment Rissa meets Lo, I knew that I was not going to like her and I didn't. At all. She's rude to the people who take care of her, she's bossy just because she can be and she a bitch to Lo! Again,Why?
To make matters worse, I didn't care much for Lo for the most part either. Of course I felt bad for the way he's treated in the novel from what I read but he's honestly such a boring character. The constant smirk on his face, the 'snarky' comments that he makes and the way that he just 'gets' Rissa is unbearable and just unbelievable.
There's also not much of a plot that's interesting, only a bunch of teenage drama and some maybe could-have-been-cool scenes when she's in the water but since the author doesn't push the limits with it, it doesn't stand out.
Waterfell is just a huge disappointment and I would have loved to read more than just typical teenage drama and a protagonist that only speak bitch and a male lead who reminds me of a human cut-out.

Don't you just hate it when starting a second book in a series, it just jumps right into a summary of the last book instead of weaving it in a different, appropriate times? Because The Iron Traitor just jumps right into a huge pile of information. On top of that, it seems that Kagawa isn't done reminding us that Ethan Chase is not a 'normal' teenager who does 'normal' things and that his life will forever suck ass. I get it, Ethan. Your life sucks and you're not normal. Stop reminding me or else I might have to kill you.

The things that I actually liked about this book are a quite limited to just about the action scenes. They're beautifully done with great description and tons of suspense that I actually read the pages rather than skimmed them. Keirran's devotion and love towards Annwyl is admirable at best but it's a bit sloppy and unrealistic at some times. Believe it or not, the only character who didn't annoy me at all isn't even a Kagawa original but a facsimile of Shakespeare and that's Puck A.K.A Robin Goodfellow because he's just so funny. It doesn't matter the story, he is the centre of attention and entertaining to read about.
Overall, this series is a let-down. I was expecting more, especially from this and although I liked it more than the first because of the nicely done ending, I didn't like it by much. To readers who want to venture into the world of faery maybe reading this one first would be better than reading it after so many since there are a few twists and surprises. I'm hoping that the last one is better than this one but I highly doubt it will be.

Fates had so much potential. I mean, there's this chick who makes sure people died. How cool! And sad. This could have been creepy and awesome but unfortunately, the author made this too much about the romance and not enough about the deaths. The protagonist (I don't even remember her name. It's something ridiculous) is an annoying idiot. All she ever does is complain and causes problems and then this guy, Luc (I think) still chases after her. AND THAT'S IT. THAT'S FUCKING IT. It's all just insta-love and romance and "You have to die so that I can go home but I love you sooo soooo much. Even though I just met you like two seconds ago." It's annoying to have to read about a story that had so much potential go to shit because the amount of romance, insta-love, and just plain pathetic characters that it makes me want to scream.
