When small-town girl Emma LaRue won a vacation to an exclusive tropical island, a last minute cancellation meant she would be going by herself. Shy and studious, she never had time to fall in love, and often wondered if she was just meant to be alone. However, that all changed when a handsome stranger literally walked into her life while on the beach and sparks began to fly.
New York's most eligible billionaire bachelor Jack Saunders thought this vacation would be the perfect escape, one last hurrah, before taking full control of his father's company. When an innocent Emma didn't recognize him, he figured that he might get a chance to have a vacation from being rich. He didn't tell her about the cars, the yacht, or the penthouse. All he did was let her fall in love with him.
Soon, Jack found that he was the one falling in love with Emma. When they enjoy a fantasy marriage ceremony on the beach, they thought it was a bit of harmless fun before returning to their normal lives. A bittersweet goodbye was supposed to be the end of their perfect vacation romance, but when photos of the ceremony were leaked to the press, everything changed.
Feeling lied to and thrust into a world of wealth and privilege, Emma must choose between following her dreams or following her heart. Will she be content at being nothing more than the billionaire's wife, or will she return to her normal life with only memories of saltwater kisses?
Krista Lakes is a writer of romances that leave you feeling good and always have a happily ever after. She has two boys and a husband that keep her busy, not to mention two cats and a dog.
I purchased this book on my Kindle because it was free and I thought "why not?" It sounded like it could be a good little romance story. I finished it only because I finish every book I start. But I really shouldn't have. The story wasn't very developed and I didn't really buy into the supposed chemistry between the characters. I wanted to like them, but couldn't get invested in the story line. The first half of the book and the second half felt like entirely different books. In the second half it seemed like Jack really could care less about Emma, but some how they end up together in the end?? The writing was very basic, with the first half of the book very repetitive with the descriptions of Jack's appearance and the world around them. I'm just glad I didn't pay for this because I'd be wanting my money back.
I should probably give it 2.5 because it was a $2 audiobook, which is obviously a deal, but for me it was pretty much boring, drawn out, and implausible. It probably would've been more tolerable if we didn't have to listen to repeated scenes like descriptions of dipping fries into catsup and days of clothes shopping. I hate shopping in real life, let alone reading about it at great lengths. The heroine was as exciting as dirty dishwater even though we were told repeatedly that she was utterly fascinating. The hero was ok but he was apparently a mommy's boy, just like his dad who, despite running a multi-billion dollar business, still held to his wife's apron strings. Feel free to go for the deal (the ebook was a freebie-double deal) but if you missed the special, you didn't really miss anything.
Oh! I forgot. After reading some of the other reviews regarding the tame sex scenes, I just wanted to add HAVE YOUR HEROINE TAKE A SHOWER, ESPECIALLY AFTER SWEATING ALL DAY ON THE BEACH, IF SHE'S GONNA LET HIM DO THAT! Yuck!!
Fun beginning and then it just got ridiculous. Emma was such a pushover she did whatever Jack's 'people' told her to do. Jack basically ignored her in the second half of the book, and had no backbone when it came to his parents, Emma handled them better. What happened?! They were so great together when they first met! Maybe the next book will be better...hopefully.
Did a thirteen-year-old write this book? Honestly now.
The premise sounded nice and light and sweet, and the story starts off with promise. But from the moment Jack's, um, failure to even neatly dispose of a condom hit my Kindle, my WTF-face came out and never really went away. I'm not sure why I kept reading, except maybe to read excerpts out loud to my husband and to see if it got better (or worse). It got worse.
I'm not being sarcastic when I say it reads like something a thirteen-year-old would write...the sex scenes are robotic (how many positions can we squeeze in?!? and also BOOBS!!!) and the amount of public/paparazzi fascination with Emma is ridiculous...we're not talking about a prince or a movie star here, yet the press and public are soooooo fascinated with this chick that they plant photographers outside her family's home and her place of work...while she's in New York? Okay. That's more like a fantasy scribbled out by someone who doesn't have a grasp on reality.
And also...please tell me if there is any woman in her right mind who would think that two instances of a man chucking a used condom at the trash, missing the trash, ignoring that fact and then rolling over and snoring ten seconds later is acceptable, let alone attractive? THAT IS FUCKING GROSS!!! Newsflash: any man that behaves that way will end up treating his woman like the used condom...oh wait a minute...he does!!!
There are some frighteningly obvious grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors throughout. There is no resolution to the main conflict (vet school vs. boring lonely life in NYC) at all, we just skip to a blissful dream wedding.
As I said, there was promise to this story, but everything above derailed it badly. I would advise the author to get a good editor and add a bit more meat to these bones.
I hate giving a book one star but honestly there wasn't much choice. This book read like a first draft. The story was underdeveloped and sentence structures were awful. It read I went to the door. I grasped the door knob and I opened the door. Three I's in that and three doors. I don't even want to know what she would have seen beyond the door. That's not an exact quote but it still fits. The sex scenes were a bit awkward to read. They tried about ten positions in one time of having sex but I didn't even think we had finished completing one position before somehow they were moving into another it didn't flow or seem as sexy as the author obviously thought.
That being said and putting all my issues aside the first half of the book it made more since the lead characters being together. The second half they seemed like two totally different people and when they were working their way to HEA I couldn't figure out why they were together.
Now if this book made it to the editing and rewrite stage it could be a strong romance.
I'm really wondering if I read a different book because this was one of the worst I read this year. Somehow I'm missing how others saw this as a 4 or 5.
The premise might have worked but the writing was sophomoric. I cringed wile reading some of the dialog. It was painful.
This was a really sweet and simple summer romance type of book. I wasn't quite sure exactly what to expect, but I really liked it.
It starts quick and it took a little time to catch up, but after that it was very smooth and enjoyable. I think the thing I liked the most is that it seemed really real (I needed to add that adjective to explain just how real this is). I mean, the idea of randomly meeting a billionaire on vacation is a little out there, but that's what's so nice about the story, too. We all have dreams and aspirations and we hope that life can be that way sometimes. Emma never expected any of this, and you can really tell that it's all startling. That was probably my favorite part of the book, actually. It's like a little slice of life mixed with some dreamy topping to make a delicious and sweet dessert.
I hope there will be more, since there were some questions left at the end that somewhat bothered me. Not in a large way, but I just want to know more, you know? Like... well, I can't say what or I'll spoil it, but I'd really like to know what happens next with Jack and Emma, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for more of this story in the future.
Their story really makes you feel a lot, though. There's such a conflict of interest and emotions going on that it drags you into everything and I kind of feel like I have some vested interest in the characters now. Like, Rachel, what are you doing? You need to do this for them. Set it up! Jeannette, you're nice, but no, let her peek her head in during the meeting! I don't even care if they're in another building, you need to get Jack on Skype or something.
Overall this was a great book and I'd definitely recommend it.
I am just not having much luck with the books I've been reading lately. This book started off well and for the brief period they were in the island it was actually kind if sweet. It's once they came back to the states that everything went awry.
*** spoiler alert ***
So okay, they get fake married, someone releases the pictures and the press comes out in full force. That part I got. Please explain to me though why Jack was so okay with all of this. He even seemed happy that they were caught and Emma had to come to New York to be with him. If that was the case then why was it so easy for him to leave her in the first place. Then there was the issue of their time together in New York. Jack couldn't spare 1 hour a day to have dinner with her and yet we are supposed to believe that in all that time they spent apart they fell in love with one another? When did that happen? HOW did that happen? I don't get it. And if he was so busy he couldn't spend time with her when they were in the same city then how could he just take off to get her back from Iowa?
This book had definite potential but in my opinion it just didn't live up to it. Maybe some added chapters and a good editor could help this one out.
I love this book. It holds a very special place in my heart. Saltwater Kisses stayed in the Amazon Top 100 list for over a month. I never in a million years thought that I would write something that sold that well. I am incredibly honored that people thought my story was worth reading.
I had just written Burned (Previously called Fire Always Burns) and had seen mediocre success. My husband said I needed to do another billionaire story. I had just read Melanie Marchande's book, I Married a Billionaire I Married a Billionaire 1 and was inspired to throw in a beach wedding.
A lot of other reviewers have basically said exactly what is wrong with this book, so I am just going to rehash it quick like.
~Awesome beginning. Cute love story. ~The trip home was the beginning of the end of that cute story. The IMMEDIATE trip to NY was unnecessary. ~The paparazzi are assholes, but I doubt they're out for world domination, so a couple of annoying questions and pictures ARE NOT GOING TO KILL YOU. So being held captive indoors at all times was unnecessary. ~What in the ever loving FUCK happened to Jack's personality? As soon as he dons his business 'mask' and shuts down, blows you off ALL THE TIME, disappears for DAYS AT A TIME, and seems to not give that first shit about your life completely changing into a lonely dreamless void of NOTHING, left me reeling and all WTF?! THIS IS WHEN I WOULD HAVE (and so would any self respecting woman, really) told him to shove it, and gone home. To a life. Family. Friends. Fuck shopping, and seclusion. I enjoy LIVING. ~All of that, and THEN he goes off on her for things that were not her fault. But a simple 'Im sorry, I love you' fixes everything? Wait no it doesn't. It literally fixes NOTHING. The second half of the book builds up and builds up, and then completely flops. Oh, then it ends. ~Flash to the future, and I thought, okay, the epilogue!!!! This HAS to explain things, what happens to make them a happy couple, SOMETHING believable... yeah that doesn't happen either. We get a wedding with no resolve. None.
This book was free for me with my kindle unlimited. Even with it being free, I still wouldn't suggest it to anyone. Its unfinished. So save yourself some time, and avoid this one.
First reaction: What the hell? This book has a very abrupt ending. We get to the conflict aspect and one short line is all it takes to resolve this whole thing and bam! The book ends at 67%. This was a very unsatisfying and rushed ending.
This being free made it easy to take a chance on this. I thought it had a good start that fizzled out fast. The story seemed rushed and instead of drawing out a fun filled vacation, this reduced most of the trip into footnotes of a few short sentences. And then it was on to the other half! It was the other half that left the rest of the book as cold as the weather in New York in early spring. What little chemistry these two had seemed to flee and left me disconnected from their romance. Jack had no time for his supposed wife. He was at the office 24/7 with short breaks to apparently watch Emma sleep.
I would have liked to have seen the vacation being the stronger aspect of this. Instead of a short brief introduction to the characters, this could have been a solid foundation for their relationship. Instead this was a bit of a disappointment.
Not the best romance. I mean..it starts on vacation so sure have a good looking guy to sleep with as a vacation fling. But of course she falls in love! Then people find out and Emma must go to NYC to be safe. Okay, but then she never sees Jack...maybe an hour a day. What a life! So romantic...or not. I just...it seemed horrible. That plus apparently she cannot do anything but work for his company or do nothing all day...she has to give up all her dreams for him. I don't like that, especially when he doesn't have time for her.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
In short the characters didn't develop and I didn't feel the love connection between Emma and Jack! In my head I felt like a monotone voice was dictating this story. I really wanted to like it, but it just kept coming up short :(
A story of two people from entirely different worlds finding a way to make it work. Written in the first person style which I am not a fan of but it was good enough to keep my interest.q
This was a really sweet and simple summer romance read that I definitely recommend. The book starts off in a quick fashion so you would want to pay attention so your not having to play alittle catch up.. Just to give you a heads up, if you enjoyed this book, then you most definitely want to pick up Kisses From Jack The Other Side of a Billionaire Love Story Saltwater Kisses Book 2 --It's the first half of Saltwater Kisses and its in Jack’s POV. This story is a tropical fairy tale. It’s a poor girl who meets rich guy on a beach. Their days are spent together on the island and Jack and Emma soon realize that the attraction is mutual. They are feeling this connection and this heat flaring between them. But the paparazzi was always following them about. There's such a conflict and emotions going on in this book. You wonder if they will ever make it and will they get their HEA. I would recommend this story very much
My Rating: 4.5 stars ***** "I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
This was a tropical fairy tale. poor girl meets rich guy on beach. A photo is leaked and the rest is history.. Here is my problem with the book CHAPTER 15,page 100. "I liked Rachel. She had a subtle sense of humor that caught me off guard. She was fiercely protective of Jack, and the love and respect she had for him only made me like her more. She had grown up in a smaller town than mine, and we spent much of our shopping excursions swapping stories about home. She was quickly becoming the older sister I never had, and I was more than grateful to have her with me in this strange place." NOW in chapter 19 page 121 "My older sister Kaylee, was online and we were emailing back and forth as I roamed the web" ( I guess this was thrown in last minute Because the authors second book is about the sister Kaylee! (I can't stand crap like that) When small-town girl Emma LaRue won a vacation to an exclusive tropical island, a last minute cancellation meant she would be going by herself. Shy and studious, she never had time to fall in love, and often wondered if she was just meant to be alone. However, that all changed when a handsome stranger literally walked into her life while on the beach and sparks began to fly.

This was one of those free book deals that I got in an email, so I blew through it in a day, taking a vacation from Sci Fi and Epic Fantasy. And what could be a better vacation than a light hearted romance that takes place at a vacation resort?
I enjoyed the characters, the set up, the early relationship. The start of this book is great.
HOWEVER, and this is a big however, this book has no resolution!!! I will use multiple exclamation points to convey my anger and frustration at being sucked into a book without an ending.
The author does a great job developing the characters and setting up real problems that any couple has to work through, not to mention the addtional problems a couple in the spot light of the papparazzi has to work though. And then, she doesn't resolve them!!! Again with the exclamation points.
The couple gets in a fight, one leaves to move on with their life, and then remaining partner shows up at their door. The [Happy?] END. I guess with an apology and to make up? However, there is no conversation presented to the reader about how they will resolve their differences, where they will live, what they will do.
Just a "And they lived happily ever after. PS. Please forget the last 5 chapters were I set up insurmountable obstacles. It turns out they really were insurmountable. I wrote myself into a corner and couldn't write myself out, so to satisfy your need for a happy ending, here is an epilogue, oddly written in Italics, describing their wedding, so you know it works out! But maybe it's a dream, since it's in Italics, so it doesn't work out? You decide!"
Grr. Don't read this book. You will be left unsatisfied and angry.
This was a quick, cute short read, and everyone knows how much I love those (smiles). Jack is quite the sweetheart, "you have magic about you, Emma. I believe every word you say, and I rarely believe anyone." He's also sexy, "and judge me he did. I could hear him growl appreciatively as he appraised my body." Emma she's a character you can't help but fall in love with, even though she has insecurities, "of course he left. He saw me in the morning light, drooling in my sleep, and escaped as quickly as possible. Good thing I wasn't lying on his arm or he would have had to chew it off." Emma also is real fond of Jack despite the situation they're in, "I want to see Jack. He's the reason I'm here and it feels weird sleeping at his house and eating his food, but never seeing him." The girl also has balls, "you wanted to push me away. You saw one thing that you didn't like, and instead of trusting me, you accuse me. You wanted to hurt me. Go back to your perfect life in a perfect office, where you don't feel anything or trust anyone. Where you don't have to be vulnerable or even human. Congratulations. You'll get it all back. I'll leave you and your precious money. I know better than to stay where I'm not wanted." You go girl. Needless to say I liked this quick, fun read.
Emma LaRue entered a radio competition for a dream holiday for two, she won and due to there being no man in her life her sister was supposed to be accompanying her, illness at the last minute had her sister pulling out and by this time it was too late for anyone else to step in. Travelling alone Emma meets a handsome guy on the beach, Jack it appears is rich but she's no idea just how rich he actually is, this is a break they both need Emma is working hard as a vet tech while aiming to become a vet Jack is on his last break before he takes over the running of the company business. The holiday romance blossoms and they end up getting married, a marriage which neither of them thinks is legal just a last holiday secret between them, a photo of the wedding is leaked and all hell breaks out.
I really enjoyed this book it was a lovely read, yes it was silly and contrived in places, the wedding for a start, but the characters and dialogue were good I liked the way it was written and to be honest any book with billionaire love story in the title is going to be a little far fetched. I was up until nearly two am this morning reading so even though I knew how it would pan out even before I started reading I loved it, three and half stars, it's free and well worth the time.
This story was kind of dull to me. It was great at first, you could feel the connection between Jack and Emma. You could feel them falling in love. However, when Emma comes to New York City, I just feel like their connection was lost. We don't get to read a lot of their time together and most of it is skipped over. I was a little annoyed because for more than 75% of the book we really don't get to know if their marriage is real or not. Emma kept saying that it wasn't legal and then she said Jack's legal time was looking into whether or not their marriage was valid. If their marriage wasn't even legal, I figured that Jack would release a statement saying that it wasn't legal. That to me would have solved the problem. It just didn't make sense to me. I also didn't like their less than exciting reunion. Jack came back out of no where and I was confused because I don't remember reading that Emma tried to give the money back in the first place. I just remember her saying she would think about it. I don't know, with the inconsistencies, lack of drama, and lack of connection between the couple, the book was just ok.
Emma is an ordinary girl who wins a contest on the radio to a paradise. There she meets the gorgeous and charming Jack Saunders, who soon has an affinity. Their days are spent together on the island and they realize that the attraction is mutual. In an act without thinking, they get married on the island and thought about keeping it as a secret of their own. And say goodbye.
Emma never imagined that her Prince Charming was actually the famous billionaire in the oil business of DS Oil and Gas. From that moment her life changed radically.
Rather than return to her small town, she was engulfed in a world where money can buy everything and paparazzi do not stop pursuing her. A big misunderstanding Jack thinks Emma always acted in bad faith and was after his money. They break up and she goes away. What could be a great fairy tale turns out to become a nightmare in golden cage...
I really liked the way the author brings the day to day life of the very rich. Yes, they have available money, but they lack time, freedom and privacy. The story is cute, with very HOT scenes.
I liked the beginning, the romancing on a far away island for just a great vacation. And I think the book should have left it at that.
I didn't like the rest of the book. I found it absolutely unbeliveable. Why on earth would Emma want to spend time with Jack when all he could give her was an hour of time, which was constantly interrupted? He's a CEO and doesn't know how to turn off or mute his phone?
Was he really the only worked for the company? Sure seemed like it or then he knew absolutely nothing about delegating. And the paparazzis? I find it REALLY hard to believe, that a CEO, no matter how handsome and wanted, couldn't go anywhere without paparazzis following him around the clock.
I really don't believe anyone would find their lives so interesting. Do they??
If only the book would have ended to the point where they said goodbay on the island, then it would have been great. An innocent holiday romance, just as it was ment to be.
"Our eyes connected, and i was Cinderella meeting my Prince."
It's worth just 2 stars, in my opinion, because of all the cliches. The famous billionaire meets the nobody girl from Iowa, they fall instantly in love,
I rolled my eyes a few times at things like: "those thoughts faded to nothingness as his tongue went to flower, tasting me gingerly" and "i squeezed my eyes shut as the tidal wave crashed onto my shores, sweeping all my cares and worries away" I know some orgasms can be poetic, but come on! :)))))
Contemporary vacation romance that is carefree and silly while subtly becoming more then just a vacation fling. Miss Emma LaRue is a sweet and kind woman that is just starting to find her way in life as she had just applied to Vet school after finding her love for animals while working as a Vet assistant in her small town Iowa background so when she wins this expensive vacation to an exclusive tropical island where she meets her soul-mate who she would have never met in 'real' life because he is very rich and powerful. So here comes a Cinderella story when Mr. Jack Saunders changes her whole life and makes them both re-evaluate their life goals and lifestyle. Sweet well written short story. 150 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
“Saltwater Kisses” was a change of pace from one of my normal reads. I found this book on a blog listed under their freebies. I started it one night and fell in love with Emma’s story. She was such a realistic character with a venerable side. Just like in any budding romance self doubt can be huge. Now Jack on the other hand was a character I loved to hate and hated to love. He made me want to scream at him to get it together for Emma. This was a sweet love story that makes you see that love is a two way street. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I have already downloaded the next book by Krista Lakes “Rainwater Kisses”.
A sweet Cinderella romance. Very frothy. The chemistry between the hero & heroine was mild but the story held my attention. I liked that the hero & heroine got to talk about their lives with each other. I was not impressed with the paparazzi always following them about. See it too often in Cinderella modern romances and roll my eyes when authors write it.
This book was free on Amazon so I grabbed it and it turned out to be the biggest waste of my time. I cannot stand stories like this and pretty much have no words for how stupid I felt Emma was and how unimpressive I thought Jack was. Definitely a series I will not be continuing.
Yikes, terrible writing! I couldn't get more than a few pages in before shelving the book as DNF. The writing was so abrupt and awkward. Every other sentence was "I [insert verb]..."
