After finishing this, I really appreciate how Holter read this. This is not a Mercy book. It's a nice change to have a different reader because the Charles and Anna books don't follow the same format as Mercy's. The POV changes between the two characters.
I think Holter reads Charles part really well. For all his years, Charles is still Salish. I think his speech pattern would have gotten more neutral over the years if this was anyone but Charles. The way Holter reads it is just about the same as I heard in my head when I first read this.
This was a series I wasn't really sure about. It had qualities I liked but somehow remained on the fence. It wasn't until Fair Game that I was hooked but ever since this has been another favorite series. I think I'm really going to enjoy Holter's narration of this series....more

There is just something about King's narration that brings my favorite stories to life better than when I read them myself. I love Mercy. She may be flawed but her defining characteristics is what drives her and what makes me love her so. Those being loyalty to those she cares about. She would never willingly let them come to harm just to save herself. Including a boy she's only just met.
Adam is one of my favorite characters. He's dominant without being completely overbearing. He actively tries to stuff down his dominant side to not have any undue influence on Mercy. He's strong without trying to take away someone else's strength to make him stronger. Mercy calls him progressive in the werewolf world and I agree....more

There were things in here that didn't make the lead guy sound like such a great guy who deserved his girl back. Then plot twist! Then everything didn't make sense nor seam realistic. This time, I don't understand why Cheyenne would give him a second chance. He dun messed up. He couldn't have really have loved her and then did this (either before or after plot twist). He wasn't some hero or good Samaritan. He's just a guy who doesn't deserve the girl....more

(view spoiler)[Grandma fakes her illness to draw her granddaughter back to her from Florida. Her "illness" gets worse and her granddaughter quits her dream job she didn't even get to start to take care of her "dying" grandma. Grandma fakes all this to set her granddaughter up on a date. (hide spoiler)] This completely ruined the book. Ariel sacrificed a lot to stay with her grandma to help her in her last dying days only to be betrayed. She grew up with parents who weren't so interested in raising a child as they were in their work and all she had was her grandparents. Now I'm not so certain her whole family aren't selfish jerks who aren't all that interested in what Ariel wants but their own selfish ideas of what she should want....more

(view spoiler)[I'm not upset about the death in this book as much as the death of a character to set the wife up for a future romance. I hate that. A lot. I was hoping for Easy to find someone else, someone who he wouldn't have felt guilty over loving. (hide spoiler)]
It was enough to drop the rating down for me. I was highly disappointed with it, even though it tugged on my heartstrings. ...more
