Ah, I see where the ambiguity it. The command dice are the dice you roll at the beginning. Any one of those command dice can replace a die you roll (like an attack).

I have a design for solo rules after rehashing them multiple times. Currently down with the flu but I'll be finalising and playtesting when I'm up and well.
I've taken inspiration from Frostgrave: Perilous Dark where you won't be playing against another warcult (creating an AI for this was becoming a pain). Instead, I'm introducing a new step in the overall storyline of Dead Gods: Relic Fiends.
Sacred Relics are having a strange impact on the locations they land. Creatures in the area are warping and becoming monstrous, seeking relics to devour. In solo mode the default scenario is still to get relics off the table, but now you must contend with a growing number of spawning fiends.
As a campaigns, you will earn warcult points for achieving primary and secondary objectives. You'll spend these on new models for your warcult as well as one-off abilities called Edges.
These scenarios will be much more narrative in nature, linking together into a Story Campaign.
A lot of people have been asking for this and rather than waiting for it in a new supplement I'd figure it could live here.
Points are figured out thusly:
This is your 1pt baseline. A3, M6", B2, F-, D2, Mm0.
- Every point a stat is increased, and for each keyword, add a point.
- If you want to increase a keyword like Sniper (1) to Sniper (2) add a point.
- For each momentum add a point.
- Add 1 point to gain 2 points in Fire, and 1 point per increase. So to have F3 you'd pay 2 points.
For example, say you want to create a well-armoured Death Knight. You might keep Activation at 3 (undead are probably a bit unruly). Battle is going to be 4 and Fire 2. Defense will be 4 (armoured) and Momentum 1. So far that's 7pts. We'll also give it the Unliving and Relic Guardian keywords to bring our total to 9pts. A formidable model.
Have fun creating your own models!
Hi Ahmad, thanks for posting. I'm flattered that you want to begin your wargaming journey with DEAD GODS and I'm more than happy to clarify.
In this game, the higher the stat, the better. You have to roll equal to or under a stat to succeed. This means that a negative modifier like -1 will reduce that roll by 1, which is a good thing.
On the reverse having a +1 modifier to the roll isn't good because it increases your die roll. This is why the rules call this a penalty.
F- just means that character doesn't have the Firing stat, so they're unable to make ranged attacks.
For the Slayer special feature the B4+ means having a Battle of 4 or more. So a model with the Slayer ability is going to be more effective against models with high Battle.
Thanks so much. And that mirrors my feelings too. My main thinking with Dead Gods was - could we have a game where: the rules were free, only a few models were needed, you could use any model, that could be played on a kitchen table, could be played in short bursts, and didn't take long to read the rules and get playing.
