~ Olimar about Louie in Pikmin 4 |
Louie is Olimar's partner from the planet Hocotate. He is one of the playable characters in the Pikmin series. He appears in Pikmin 2 as one of the main protagonists, its sequel Pikmin 3 as a major character and in Pikmin 4 as the main antagonist.
Personality[]
Louie is a usually silent individual which makes it hard to tell what he is thinking. Due to his childhood days of playing with bugs, Louie's mind would develop to operate on the same wavelength to that of a bug. Because of this, it seems Louie might of found a way to control bugs to some extent, as theorised by Olimar after saving Louie from the Titan Dweevil in Pikmin 2. Louie likes to have the freedom to enjoy life the way he desires and is said to be a bit of a slacker while working for Hocotate Freights. Although he still follows orders, he is liable to get into mischief which causes trouble for others working with him and sometimes himself. Louie's most notable trait is that he is very gluttonous, and much of his troublemaking can be attributed to his huge appetite. He apparently cooks and eats many of the hostile wildlife on PNF-404 then makes notes on what did to prepare them for consumption. Despite his more negative traits, Louie usually does help Olimar on his expeditions to PNF-404, becomes distraught if he loses Pikmin he is allied with in Pikmin 3 Deluxe and rewards the protagonist for helping him in Pikmin 4. He also likes riding on dogs and cares for his Nana.
Biography[]
Pikmin 2[]
After the Hocotate Freight Delivery Company runs into some heavy debt because a "ravenous space bunny" ate a delivery of golden Pikpik Carrots, The Company President sends Olimar and Louie to the distant planet inhabited by Pikmin (later known as PNF-404) in order to find 10,000 Pokos worth of treasure. During a emergency landing on the distant planet, Louie gets separated from Olimar and must find a way to reunite with him. Louie learns how to work together with the Pikmin with some help from the Hocotate Ship and soon gets back together with Olimar. After much exploring, the pair finally get all the treasure they need to pay off the Company's debt. But as their ship blasts off into space, Olimar is shocked to realize that Louie isn't in his cockpit and has become stranded on the distant planet. Despite his predicament, Louie managed to survive on the planet and wound up on the final floor of Dream Den at Wishful Wild where Olimar and the President find him, resting among some treasures. But it's then revealed that Louie was also resting on top of a massive creature called Titan Dweevil. After defeating the creature, Louie is taken by the Pikmin aboard the Ship's treasure hold and, after waking up, tells Olimar that he wishes to be referred to as "The King of Bugs", making Olimar wonder if Louie was somehow controlling the Titan Dweevil's mind when he and the President fought it.
If the player doesn't lose a single Pikmin during each Mission in Mission Mode, it is revealed that Louie was the one actually responsible for the Delivery Company's debt after he ate all the golden Pikpik Carrots he was suppose to deliver.
Pikmin 3[]
Louie returns to the distant planet, now known as PNF-404, with Olimar in Pikmin 3. The Hocotate Delivery Company has once again fallen into debt, so Olimar and Louie go back to PNF-404 to get more treasure. After some searching, Olimar believes that there might be some treasure at a place called The Formidable Oak. However, Louie decides to stay behind, likely due to knowing or at least fearing it was dangerous, and after Olimar leaves, is attacked by a Scornet Maestro swarm. Louie is knocked unconscious, leaving him at the mercy of the Scornet Maestro, but is then saved by Alph, Brittany and Captain Charlie, explorers from the planet Koppai who have come to PNF-404 in search of food to save their planet from famine. The Koppaites take Louie back to their ship, the S. S. Drake, where he is fed and taken care of. However, Louie apparently believes he's been taken prisoner and makes his escape after stealing all of his rescuer's food and Charlie's beloved rubber duck. Louie doesn't make it very far though, as he's suddenly attacked and eaten by a massive creature called Quaggled Mireclops, forcing the Koppaite explorers to rescue him again. Afterwards, Louie is brought back to the S. S. Drake and tied up to keep him from causing any more trouble. After finishing the game, it's revealed that Louie managed to escape again and is back on PNF-404, although the Koppaites feel that he will be alright.
In this game, Louie is only playable in Mission Mode and in Bingo Battle. However in the Nintendo Switch version of the game Pikmin 3 Deluxe, he is also playable in Side Stories Mode.
Pikmin 4[]
Louie returns in Pikmin 4 as the main adversary for the second half of the game. Louie was sent to PNF-404 by The President to find Olimar, but became increasingly sidetracked by the prospect of finding food. He first appears during the game's credits after Olimar and the Rescue Corps make their first attempt to return home. Louie is shown to be wondering around at night on PNF-404 when he encounters the space dog Moss and they begin to explore the planet together. They eventually come across an abundance of juice, which Louie decides to take from the trio of Koppaites that had gathered it. The Rescue Corps soon encounter Louie and Moss after returning to the planet and find that they were holding two of the three Koppaites captive, including a veterinarian named Nelle that the Rescue Corps needed to help their Rescue Pup Oatchi. The game's protagonist pursues Louie through different locations and faces him in Dandori Battles to save each of the Koppaites. Upon his second defeat, Louie abandons his final captive Nelle and leaves Moss to be taken under Olimar's care. Nelle reveals that Louie has befriended another, larger dog which had cells required to restore Oatchi from his Leafling state, so the game's protagonist chases Louie to a cave called "Cavern for a King" and corners him on the final floor. Louie climbs onto a massive beastly-looking canine called Ancient Sirehound to once again battle against the protagonist and their squad of Pikmin. However, he is defeated after a lengthy fight and is taken back to the Rescue Corps Command Post where he is presumably tied up to keep him from causing anymore trouble.
Afterwards, Louie can be interacted with at the Rescue Command Post where he will request the protagonist to hunt some enemies for him in caves in exchange for rewards. For completing the quests, he will give the player the Helping Hand, which allows them to carry items with the strength of one Pikmin.
