DESPITE its size and colourful plumage, this can be a tricky species to observe well and photograph . Climbs trees and excavates timber, but also feeds on the ground, using its long tongue to extract ants from subterranean nests, the flight is undulating. Seen at Margate Crematorium grounds, Kent.
