— Roark

Roark (Japanese: ラオ Rao) is a Begnion army commander who fought in the war between the Laguz Alliance and Begnion. He led an invasion into Crimea, which was entirely neutral in the conflict at the time, to pillage a town near the Begnion border for funds and provisions for the army. His actions forced the Crimean Royal Knights to intervene and stop Roark's men, and as retaliation Roark ordered the town's homes to be burned to the ground.

Personality

Roark believed that because Crimea was a suzerain state to Begnion, existing only because Begnion allowed it to, any attempt by the Crimeans to defy Begnion's will or stop its soldiers was an act of betrayal. In his view, the right response to such defiance was to cruelly massacre the people of Crimea and destroy their property, ordering the town's houses to be burned down as this punishment.[1] He appeared to fear Senator Valtome, the commander-in-chief of the army at the time, and the cruel punishments Valtome would subject Roark and his men to if they failed to extract enough from the town, regardless if there was much to extract in the first place.[2]

Quotes

Battle quotes

Dog of Crimea! I'll crush you!
— Roark, as the boss of Part III, Chapter 9 of Radiant Dawn.
Geoffrey: I am Geoffrey, the commander of the Crimean Royal Knights! Do you command these men?
Roark: Knight of Crimea. You are clearly guilty of treason against the Begnion Empire! Do you understand what it means to send an army against us? You've just killed your people.
Geoffrey: You have been warned. Queen Elincia will not accept any further acts of violence and banditry within our borders! Withdraw your troops immediately, or I cannot guarantee your safe return! Decide quickly.
Roark: How dare you take that tone with me! I'll put you in your place!

— Roark, when fighting Geoffrey in Part III, Chapter 9 of Radiant Dawn.

Death quotes

The empire will not forget this... Once our main forces arrive, they will slaughter you like cattle!
— Roark, as the boss of Part III, Chapter 9 in Radiant Dawn.
