The Rukh (ルク, Ruku?, ルフ, Rufu?, ロック, Rokku?, or ロックちょう, Rokku Chō?, lit. Roc Bird), also known as the Roc, Rock, or Osprey, is a recurring creature in the Final Fantasy series, first appearing in The Final Fantasy Legend.

Final Fantasy III[]

The Rukh appears as an enemy fought on Dragon's Peak. It is weak to wind and has a chance to petrify when attacking the party.

Final Fantasy VI[]

The Rukh appears as an enemy in the World of Ruin near Albrook and Tzen. It is weak to ice, but can counter magic attacks with Shamshir, which will halve the target's HP. It also has a chance to use Beak on its third turn, which may petrify a party member.

Final Fantasy X-2[]

The Rukh appears as an enemy fought on Djose Highroad, Mt. Gagazet, and floors 50-59 of Via Infinito. It is always encountered alone and can petrify party members. When Oversouled, it has the strength to take up to 75% of a party member's HP in a single blow.

Final Fantasy XI[]

Roc 1 (FFXI)

The Roc appears as a family of bird-type enemies. They are among the more dangerous birds, with most of the family being notorious monsters. The common Roc appears as a notorious monster in the Sauromugue Champaign and Nyzul Isle. Defeating it in the former grants the Roc Star title and is the only source of the Crimson Blade and the Dryad Staff.

The Roc appears as the boss of the FATE Roc of Ages Roc of Ages in the Coerthas Central Highlands.

The Final Fantasy Legend[]

The Rock appears as an enemy and potential transformation for party members. It can be encountered on the first floor of the Tower.

Final Fantasy Legend II[]

The Roc appears as an enemy and potential transformation for party members. It can be encountered in the Central Shrine.

Two variations of the Rukh appear, using both the ルク (Ruku) and ルフ (Rufu) names in the Japanese localization. The ルク (Ruku) appears as an enemy in the Fulan Pass, Swamp of No Return, Sylph's Cavern, and Realm of the Dragon King dungeons, as well as the Vortex, Colosseum, and the "Fate of the Dragoon" and "Conspiracy to the Throne" story events. The ルフ (Rufu) appears as a boss in the West Side District Block D2 dungeon and the "Fate of the Dragoon" and "White Lily Bouquet" story events.

Etymology[]

A roc or ruk (from the Arabic and Persian رخ rokh, asserted by Louis Charles Casartelli to be an abbreviated form of Persian simurgh) is an enormous legendary bird of prey, often said to be white.
