Reduces target's HP to 1/8th of total HP.

Description

Graviga, also known as Demi2, is a Time Magic spell in Final Fantasy V. When successful, it deals fractional damage, reducing the target's current HP to 1/8th. Enemies with the hidden "heavy" property are immune.

Obtained[]

Graviga can be purchased at Moore for 6,000 gil.

Graviga can also be used by catching and releasing a Gravitator.

Mechanics[]

If the target has shell, the Spell Hit% is halved. If the target is a toad, its Evade % is reduced to 0.

The game generates two random numbers between 0 and 99.

If N1 >= Hit%, the spell misses
If N2 < Evade%, the spell misses

Graviga is affected by reflect.

Use[]

Graviga outclasses Gravity, which only halves an enemy's HP. Its damage can be extremely strong, and is based on the enemy's HP rather than on any stats the caster has, and without worrying about any elemental affinities. However, the chance to not hit can somewhat weaken the spell. It is best used against more powerful enemies early on in the battle, but ones who are not bosses (except for the few bosses which lack the heavy property). This can be used to leave the enemy with little HP, making them ripe for be caught by a Beastmaster, or simply to be finished off with normal attacks.

Level 4 Graviga, if targeted properly, is much more useful as it can target multiple enemies. As such, it is more turn-efficient and MP-efficient.

Etymology[]

Gravity, or gravitation, is the natural phenomenon by which physical bodies appear to attract each other with a force proportional to their masses. It is most commonly experienced as the agent that gives weight to objects with mass and causes them to fall to the ground when dropped.

Demi is a prefix meaning "half", from the Latin dīmidium meaning "divided in half".
