The Golden Deer are one of the three student houses at the Garreg Mach Monastery Officers Academy in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. At Rhea's invitation, Byleth must choose between the Golden Deer and the other two houses, the Black Eagles and the Blue Lions, to personally teach.
Profile[]
The Golden Deer house at the Officers Academy is comprised of students who hail from the Leicester Alliance. Compared to the two other houses, the Golden Deer has more students from a commoner background, many of whom are proficient at using bows.
The Golden Deer name and banner were inspired by creatures of the same name that are said to have been sacred protectors of the Leicester region since time immemorial.

If Byleth taught the Black Eagles or the Blue Lions, any members they did not recruit from the Golden Deer house during the Academy phase will support Claude and the Leicester Alliance. Marianne is the only Golden Deer student that will never be encountered as an enemy if Byleth does not recruit her. For the other students, whether or not they are encountered depends on the route (Silver Snow, Crimson Flower, or Azure Moon).
If Byleth chooses to teach the Golden Deer, they will experience the Verdant Wind route during the War phase.
Members[]
- Claude von Riegan - House Leader of the Golden Deer. A cunning strategist who is the heir to House Riegan, the leading house in Alliance Roundtable conversations.
- Lorenz Hellman Gloucester - The haughty yet responsible and eloquent heir to the County of Gloucester.
- Raphael Kirsten - An orphaned son of a merchant family with a love of family, food, and building his muscles. He hates studying, and often worries about his sister. He wants to become a knight to make a good living and have skills to take care of and protect his sister and grandfather.
- Ignatz Victor - A sensitive and shy young man from a merchant family who has a secret passion for painting, but was sent to the academy to become a knight.
- Lysithea von Ordelia - The young and prodigious heir to House Ordelia. Wishes to be taken seriously and despises being treated like a child. The youngest Officers Academy student in her year's class.
- Marianne von Edmund - The quiet and reclusive adopted daughter of Margrave Edmund, who bears a mysterious crest.
- Hilda Valentine Goneril - The daughter of the former Duke Goneril, she is lazy, hates chores, and often daydreams while she doesn't have to do anything. She actually doesn't have to to do anything very often, as she has a habit of manipulating people, especially men, into doing things for her.
- Leonie Pinelli - A girl from the hunting village of Sauin who aspires to become a great mercenary like her idol, Jeralt.
Former Students[]
- Holst Sigiswald Goneril - The former heir of House Goneril and older brother of Hilda who singlehandedly won the Battle of the Eagle and Lion for the Golden Deer while attending the Officers Academy.
- Balthus von Albrecht - The former heir of House Albrecht, a minor Alliance house, Balthus attended and graduated from the Officers Academy in Imperial Year 1172 before relinquishing his position as heir to his younger half-brother.
- Erwin Fritz Gloucester - Lorenz's father and the Count of Gloucester before him, he was also part of the Golden Deer in the past; and like Holst, he also won the Battle of the Eagle and Lion, an event he still prides himself in.
Etymology[]
The Japanese pronunciation of the three classes take their names from German. The Golden Deer are roughly called "Hirschklasse," which means "Deer Class", or "Hart Class".
Trivia[]
- Five members of the Golden Deer, Claude von Riegan, Hilda Valentine Goneril, Lysithea von Ordelia, Lorenz Hellman Gloucester, and Marianne von Edmund, come from families with names inspired by characters in the Shakespearean play King Lear. Claude's, Hilda's, and Lysithea's family names are named after Lear's three daughters: Regan, Goneril, and Cordelia (Japanese version), respectively; Marianne's family name is named after one of the play's villains, Edmund; and Lorenz's family name is named after Edmund's father, the Earl of Gloucester.
- The Golden Deer's members are unique in a few ways regarding their skill proficiencies compared to the other two houses.
- They are the only house with three members who are proficient in Authority: the lord (Claude) and one of the mages (Lysithea), like the other two, but with the addition of Ignatz.
- If Lysithea's budding talent is unlocked, the Golden Deer become the only house to lack a member with four skill banes (including the DLC-exclusive Ashen Wolves).
- Their house leader Claude and former member Balthus are tied for the highest number of skill proficiencies in the game: they each have five naturally and can gain a sixth by unlocking their budding talents (Axes and Reason, respectively).
