In The Character's Past[]
In the early years of the Enchanted Forest, Liam and Killian are still under servitude after their father sold them to slavery as they are made to clean their ship. Liam is hoping that he and Killian can leave their life of servitude by joining the Navy. Unfortunately, Killian, who has taken up drinking, gambles away their prospects, even as Liam vows to never leave his brother. Several days later, their ship crosses paths with a hurricane en route to a sought-after treasure, which Captain Silver describes as "The Eye of the Storm." Liam hosts a successful mutiny to protect the crew, when Hades appears to give Liam advice, then reveals himself and makes a deal with Liam: in exchange for him and Killian's survival as well as a future in the Royal Navy for both brothers, Hades wants to take the souls of the men on the ship, and adds the Eye of the Storm treasure as a bonus. A tempted Liam gives in and makes the deal with Hades, then lies to Killian as he takes the the ship into the hurricane, which kills the crew but spares the brothers, who are later found alive by the Royal Navy. As Liam shows them the treasure, he is declared a hero, and are immediately given positions on a Royal Navy ship for their service.
In the Underworld[]
In the Underworld Forest, Cruella and Henry are searching for the quill that could save both Cruella and Emma. When Henry notices a glimmering light after they split up, he encounters the soul of the Apprentice, who is here because Henry is his unfinished business, which is to tell Henry that the quill is located inside the Sorcerer's mansion and that all he needs is a key. But there is a catch, as the Apprentice advises Henry that the quill should be only be used for recording events and adds that if Henry makes the right choice, the Apprentice can move on.
Meanwhile, Emma uses her magic to heal Hook, but when she tried to kiss him Hook turns away, as he blames himself for giving in to darkness. The two are then interrupted by a surprised visitor, Killian's brother Liam, who they learn has unfinished business but he doesn't know who or what it is, except that it involved a book with the power to defeat Hades. Emma assumes to be the Underworld equivalent of the "Once Upon a Time" book. This leads to everyone to start searching, but come up empty. Concerned that Emma is not good enough for Hook because she made him go dark, Liam personally tells Emma and wonders if she saved Hook for the sake of saving him, or for herself, and proposes that she break up with Hook after they hopefully escape. Moments later, Henry returns and suggest they look for the book in the Sorcerer's mansion (which Henry hopes will lead him to the quill), only to discover the key is located in the Sheriff's office and James is the owner. After they leave, Hades visits Liam at his tavern, where they share a drink and discovers he knows about their plans. Hades demands that Liam find and rip the pages that concern Hades’ story and blackmails him, saying that he will reveal to Hook the real reason why Liam has unfinished business in the Underworld if he doesn't comply. At the jail, Snow and David find the key, only to hear Cruella, who mistakes David for her boyfriend James and plants a kiss on David. Later on at the mansion, both Emma and Regina ask Henry that he stay in the foyer, but he doesn't stay there and starts looking for the quill. Unaware to everyone, Liam has found the book, and he rips out the pages right away. At the same time, David does his best to turn down Cruella, who then catches on immediately and tells him that James has always resented him for having a loving family.
Everyone is stunned that Hades' story from the book is missing, as Liam suggest they continue to look for the pages. Liam has Hades' stories and toss them in the well of Acheron at the Sorcerer's Mansion. Emma suspects that Liam is lying and tells Hook. Emma then confronts Liam, only to have Hook telling Emma to back off, saying he wants to break up once they escape. As Emma storms off, Hook notices that Liam has the pages, when all of a sudden Captain Silver and the crewmembers from the ship surrounds the brothers by kidnapping them, and reveal the truth to Hook about Liam selling out their souls to Hades. The crew takes the brothers to the edge of the Underworld, where they want Hook and Liam to jump to their deaths. Hades then appears, as he sends Silver to his demise first, and is now pleased that Liam has carried out his deal, but is still furious with Hook. Soon enough, Liam attacks Hades, who pushes him into the flames, and as Hook grabs Liam's arm to save him, Liam makes the ultimate sacrifice by killing himself in order to make things right. It turns out that Liam's unfinished business was to help his crew move on to a better place and to make peace with Killian, which in turn leaves Hades furious that more souls has moved on. Liam owes Emma his apology she wants what's best for his brother, Killian. When Hook returns to see Emma, he apologizes and explain to her about what happened.
Meanwhile at the mansion, Henry finds the quill just as everyone search the book for something connected to Hades. David suddenly notices Henry's behaviour and decides to talk to him, and Henry comes clean about the quill and the ink, but admits that he plans to use in a positive way, starting with re-writing the missing Hades story that Liam ripped out. Hades looks through the Acheron River and picks up the missing pages are later revealed to be Hades' connection to Zelena, and as Hades looks at the drawing of the two together, he is pleased that their secret is safe for now.
