Walt Disney Animation Studios' epic animated musical Moana 2 takes audiences on an expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.[6]
During a Disney Investor Day meeting in December 2020, chief creative officer Jennifer Lee announced that an animated series titled Moana, based on the 2016 film of the same name, was in development at the studio for Disney+.[10] The series entered development simultaneously with the live-action remake.
In February 7, 2024, Bob Iger announced that the series had been reworked into a theatrical feature film.[1]
Release
Moana 2 is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 27, 2024. A sneak peek at the film is set to screen at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 14, 2024.[11] The first trailer for the film was released on May 29, 2024.

In 2020, a sequel to Moana was announced in the form of an animated series that was set to debut on Disney+.[10] This was eventually retooled into a theatrical feature film.[1]
