"Stand Up Randall" is the second segment of the thirtieth episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
Randall becomes popular as the playground comedian, but the gang isn't laughing when they find that all the jokes are about Mikey.
Plot[]
As TJ and the gang are resting on the grass, Gus uses a cardboard cylinder as a telescope and calls out goings-on around the playground. King Bob is bossing his staff around as usual, Guru Kid's legs had fallen asleep again, forcing him to wake them up, and Artie Kid is drawing a masterpiece on the blacktop pavement. Unfortunately for Artie Kid, he is caught by Randall, who proceeds to tattle on him to Miss Finster. As he is send to the Principal's Office to fetch the hose, he is promised a reward from the lost and found. However, as he makes his way, kids along his path jeer at him for being a snitch, even throwing fruit at him.
Upon arriving at the Principal's Office, Randall begins to complain about how miserable he is to Menlo who cares very little for him as well. As he sorts through the lost and found, Randall finds "The Big Book of Jokes" and begins to read some of them through the night. When he goes out to the playground, he is caught by Cornchip Girl and makes a joke from the book, causing her to laugh as she calls him "Funny Man". Randall proceeds to tell more jokes as everyone begins to stop and listen to him. Randall suddenly becomes popular, much to the Recess Gang's confusion, while at the same time, Miss Finster finds catching miscreants becoming dull without him. But soon, he begins to run out of jokes, causing his fans to leave him, though Cornchip Girl remains supportive. Desperate to maintain his fame, Randall spots Mikey tries to catch a butterfly only to get his head caught in his own net, and decides to make jokes about Mikey.
Randall's Mikey jokes become a hit, and despite the Gang's complaints, Mikey is okay with it. That is until Randall begins to make fat jokes which finally makes him feel bad. Cornchip Girl even voices her dislike towards Randall's shift in humor, but he turns her away. The Recess Gang soon confront him, demanding he lay off Mikey, but he refuses because the student body can't get enough of it. Spinelli attempts to grab him but is restrained by her friends, shortly before King Bob shows up, ordering Randall put on a comedy show next recess.
As the Recess Gang wonder aloud how Randall got so funny to begin with, Menlo passes by and explains that Randall has been getting his jokes from a joke book. Deciding to beat Randall at his own game, T.J has the Gang buys copies of the same joke book from Kelso's. During Randall's performance, as Randall begins to tell his jokes again, the Gang, along with Cornchip Girl, begin to shout out the punchline before he can, causing everyone to walk away. With Randall's comedian life ruined, he runs off to complain to Miss Finster; T.J. declares that funny as the episode ends.
