Echo is an ability in Echoes of Wisdom.

Overview

Echoing is an ability granted by the Tri Rod. It allows Zelda to channel her wisdom to recreate Objects and Shimmers from defeated Enemies. By summoning the Echo of an Enemy, they will fight for Zelda rather than against her. Echoes are created through Tri's power, and these Echoes will glow a golden color to distinguish them from natural Objects and Enemies.

If an Object can be Learned as an Echo, it will emit golden wisps and small golden triangle shapes. Once Learned, this effect will no longer be visible. Similarly, whenever a compatible Enemy is defeated, it will leave behind a small figurine of itself known as a Shimmer. These Shimmers can be Learned in order to allow Zelda to summon their corresponding Monsters as Echoes.

Each Echo that is summoned has a certain cost, which is represented by triangles that float behind Tri. This cost is also visible in menus that display the Echo in question as well as on the Game Screen when an Echo is selected. When an Echo is summoned, its cost will move from behind Tri to hover over the Echo in a vertical stack. If the Echo cost limit is reached, the earliest Echo that has been summoned will begin glowing to indicate it will disappear if the Echo cost limit is exceeded. It is possible to reduce the cost for Echoes through an unknown mechanic. Echoes cannot be summoned over Rifts as they will simply disappear.

Echoes have unique durabilities and may break when struck or damaged. Echoes also inherit the properties of the Object or Enemy that they mimic. For instance, Echoes of Angler Fries are capable of being summoned and emitting Light outside of Water, though they cannot move freely. However, Echoes are incapable of damaging Zelda even if their Object or Enemy counterparts normally would, such as through contact. When summoned in the same spot as another Echo, Echoes will be placed on top of the other Echoes where possible. Water Blocks summoned this way will stack with the most recently-summoned Echo on top.

Echoes are Learned by pressing the ZR Button over a compatible Object or Shimmer, and they are summoned by pressing the Y Button after selecting a suitable Echo. Echoes can be dismissed by pressing the ZR Button while facing them. All Echoes that have been summoned can be collectively dismissed by holding the ZR Button.[1]
