panI almost DNF‘d this book. For subject matter that is fascinating, it was just so poorly written. The author introduces it as nonfiction but then adds emotions, anecdotes, and stories that are made up because there‘s no way of knowing any of those details. It‘s common knowledge that the Bender‘s were never caught and no one ever interviewed them. You can‘t present nonfiction then write in fictional details to make it sound better. Book#89 in 2024

This book is...strange and unique. Suffice it to say that, as the title hints, there is a lot of talk about death. The protagonist is a quirky hypochondriac, with extreme anxiety and mental health issues. A little bit of Plath's The Bell Jar, and a little bit murder mystery. I liked it, but if you suffer from extreme anxiety about death, this book may be a trigger.
pickFinished The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera which I borrowed from our local library. It certainly deserves the Newberry sticker that I will remind them to put on when I return it. The story was very different than I expected since I heard buzz about the book, but not about the story before I read it. I say it is a modern story about old things and their value. This was a delight to listen to. I got so attached to the characters, that when they died I cried.
Traveling with them across the country, you have great vision as to what or where they were.
I have to highly recommend this book ❤❤❤

It tells how he came to own Mount Vernon, fall in love, and marry Patsy (Martha‘s nickname). He loved Martha and he loved Mount Vernon.
