You Deserve Each Other
You Deserve Each Other | Sarah Hogle
For fans of The Hating Game, a debut lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy about two unhappily engaged people each trying to force the other to end the relationship--and falling back in love in the process. Naomi Westfield has an Instagram-perfect life, including the perfect fianc: Nicholas Rose holds doors open for her, remembers her restaurant orders, and comes from the kind of upstanding society family every bride dreams of being a part of. They never fight, complain, or disagree. They're preparing for their lavish wedding that's three months away. And they are miserably and utterly sick of each other. Tired of contorting herself to fit the ridiculous standards demanded by Nicholas's family, Naomi wants out of the relationship. But there's a catch: Whoever calls off the engagement will have to foot the enormous bill for the wedding. When Naomi finds out that Nicholas, too, has been feigning contentment, the two of them go head-to-head in a battle of wills to see who can annoy the other into surrendering through pranks, sabotage, and all-out emotional warfare. But now that they have nothing to lose, they're finally being themselves. They're having so much fun getting on each other's nerves that it starts to feel like something else entirely. As Naomi discovers hidden feelings for Nicholas buried under three years of simmering resentment, she wonders if he feels the same way. Suddenly, the countdown to the wedding that may or may not come to pass feels more like a race to mutual destruction--and Naomi doesn't want to be left alone at the finish line.

This book is lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers, and I was here for it! Naomi and Nicholas are engaged, their wedding looming close, but both are unhappy and want to back out. The catch is that whoever calls off the wedding has to foot the bill for the entire shindig. What ensues is a game of chicken, but along the way, they remember what drew them together in the first place.

Oh gosh, this read like gossip from a journal, not an edited, published novel. I didn‘t know where to turn with the unlikable characters, and the choppy sentences were poorly written. And their arguments? How did it go from 0 to cutting her hair? That‘s so toxic and immature. I bailed; not for me

This book took me by surprise! I was expecting a lighter rom com, but got a deeply emotional, poignant story. It‘s one of the few that made me laugh in the first 25%, then it was very toxic, then the last half was coming back from the brink. Building back trust and honesty to remember why they love each other. It was beautiful. ❤️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful ending to what started out a bit rough for me. The premise is that a pair of fiancés have fallen out of love and are playing chicken to see who will break it off first so they blame it on the other one (and leave them with the bill). But they are so mean to each other, I almost bailed but I‘m glad I didn‘t. Funny but super snarky at the start. And I loved their house ?#BookspinBingo

Lovers to enemies to lovers. Naomi has the perfect fiancé. Nicholas comes from a proud, upstanding family. They are preparing for their extravagant wedding but, Naomi wants out. Naomi finds out that Nicholas has had second thoughts too. This is where the fun begins, a head to head battle in pranks, sabotage and a test on family loyalty. There is a catch, whoever ends the engagement foots the bill.
A witty, sarcastic entertaining read.

Naomi & Nicholas are supposed to be getting married soon, & they don‘t love each other anymore. But neither of them want to pay for the cost of the wedding. So, they prank each other into giving in. Neither one of them expected to fall in love again.

This one was cute & funny at times, but also boring. I enjoyed the character arcs for both the main characters. There was just little to no spice. Enjoyed it, but wouldn‘t read it again.

Hogle has managed to write characters the readers don‘t like at the start of the book but who they‘ll root for by the end. This is a rather unconventional rom com but if you can get past the childishness in the beginning, it‘s cute and rather fun. it‘s gonna be a no from me. the plot is stupid, the characters are stupid and the miscommunication can‘t even be boiled down to a misunderstanding, they simply don‘t talk to each other and it‘s their own damn fault, goodbye

Naomi is really getting on my nerves. She‘s so stuck in her little bubble of selfishness and self destruction that she doesn‘t see what‘s right in front of her. Don‘t get me wrong, Nicholas has his issues, but he told her what he wanted and set out to get it. They‘re both unlikeable, but Naomi is taking the prize as the worst of both of them.

It‘s made me chuckle a bit.

This book truly surprised me. At first I wasn‘t sure how I felt about the premise...but I found myself softening to the characters as they did to each other. Surprising moments of heart wrapped up in a book that had me laughing until I cried.

I almost considered not finishing this book about a quarter of the way through. I didn‘t like the main character and there was not enough background information about why she felt the way she did. It seemed very juvenile and immature. Toward the end the story picked up a little and there were some good lessons to be taken. The immaturity of the relationship just didn‘t end. Not a great book. ⭐️⭐️

“Sweet, hilarious joy!” Is the PERFECT BLURB FOR THIS SWOONY, MANIACAL GEM, OK? I‘ve been scaring the people around me by bursting into seemingly unprovoked fits of laughter. (Yep, it‘s one of THOSE). The protagonists are basically lovable assholes who, instead of posting about their relationship woes on the AITA Reddit, decide to try to out-asshole each other & end up (re-)falling in love. It‘s equal parts HYSTERICAL & ADORABLE. Read it!!!★★★★★.

#currentlyreading | lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers is not my favoritest trope (that would be MOC/fake-dating or plain enemies-to-lovers), but this sounded too hilarious to pass up! Here‘s hoping it matches up 🤞🏽

Also, I‘m 3 hours into the #SuperSeptember Readathon and I‘m feeling FINE! Just kidding, I‘m in some serious need of coffee, since I won‘t be sleeping for another 10 hours minimum. Why didn‘t I nap before work, you ask? Because I was completely pulled into my audiobook. Shocker!

What are some of your favorite romance tropes? I‘m a big fan of fake dating and enemies to lovers!
💕
This story was interesting because it went from lovers to enemies to lovers; or, really, two people who had fallen out of love falling back in love. I really enjoyed watching their relationship transform, and it was very funny in certain parts, too.

My hopes might‘ve been a little too high for this #RomCom - there are some funny scenes in this lovers-to-enemies-back-to-lovers romance, but the overall premise relies on a rather ridiculous assumption of the main character which makes this a bit unbelievable. A lot could have been resolved with open communication... but it still made for a fun listen overall! And I liked the small town Wisconsin setting! #AudioColoring

I really enjoyed this, but I can tell that it's not going to be everyone's kind of romance. Naomi and Nicholas have a meet cute (that we don't see until almost the very end) and find themselves engaged while not truly being their actual selves. Both are miserable, but neither wants to be the one to call it off and end up out of money and a home. Thus the War of the Roses begins, but cuter and a lot more summer camp prankish.

MidnightBookGirl While engaged in this childish behavior, both find themselves having fun and realizing that by letting each other down they were only ruining their chance at happiness. It was kind of refreshing that Naomi just wanted a job she liked, that she hadn't gone to college, because I feel like in most rom coms it's the female heroine who is always very career minded, and the dudes who sometimes have to get their crap together, but in this case (con't) 4y
MidnightBookGirl Nicholas is a little bit older and a dentist. So it's a nice switch, and not one I see a lot in romance.

About the best I can say about this is that I‘m glad I finished it (because I wanted the resolution) but I hated them for so much of this that I can‘t say I liked it. They deserved each other though. I can see why other people might like it though - I had the same problem with Dating You Hating You which I know other people loved.

This is a rom-com with a twist. Naomi and Nicholas are an engaged couple who are Instagram worthy perfection. Only as everyone on social media knows, likes can be deceiving. Secretly, these lovebirds have grown to loathe more than love. With their nuptials looming, will they get their act together or call it quits? Both characters come off as pretty petty at first. It‘s only when their war intensifies they see they might be worth fighting for.

Sarah Hogle's You Deserve Each Other (a contemporary romance) reminded me of a recent historical romance novel I enjoyed, Martha Waters's To Have and to Hoax. Both novels focus on established couples--in Hogle's book, that's engaged pair Naomi and Nicholas--who have a troubled relationship. After a brief prologue focusing on their first kiss, the book begins with Naomi in the throes of wedding planning . . . ️

UnabridgedPod and of fully realizing how much she dislikes her fiance. She's desperate to call off the wedding but doesn't want to get stuck with the bill since Nicholas's parents have paid for many of the arrangements. And so she decides that the best thing to do is to be so loathsome that HE decides to call off the wedding instead. Hi-jinks, of course, ensue. ⠀

I really enjoyed You Deserve Each Other, which is funny and also (at times) anxiety inducing--⬇️
4y
UnabridgedPod Nicholas's mother is truly horrible--and I again, as in To Have and to Hoax, enjoyed watching a couple deal with what comes "ever after" the "happily" part.⠀

Are there any romance novels you've enjoyed about existing relationships? Or . . . what are you reading right now?

Naomie and Nicholas drove me absolutely crazy for the first half of this book. But every time I put the book down to do real life things, I kept thinking about the two of them and when they would figure their stuff out. The story kept me very engaged, laughing at the ridiculous pranks the two played, and rooting for them to find their happily ever after. A fun quick read that was lighthearted and entertaining.🌟🌟🌟🌟Thanks #NetGalley for the ARC.
