Earlier this week we started sharing more details about Baseline with some of the founders who applied for membership. While we're not yet officially open, we have started to onboard a small number of startups as members. We think of Baseline as a community first and a workspace second, so this first cohort of members will play an important role in helping us set the cultural tone of the community. We believe that startups are a series of increasingly complex experiments, and that persistent iterations lead to more successful outcomes than following a programme. We also believe that founders benefit from being in a community and workspace where they're surrounded only by peers at a similar stage of development, rather than by employees of late-stage/multinational companies or other traditional businesses. As such, Baseline isn’t an incubator, accelerator, or traditional co-working. Our members benefit from: • Access to a local and international peer network of ambitious, like-minded founders • Regular events, workshops, and gatherings for learning and building important relatships • Over €1M in deals and discounts on essential startup tools and services • 24/7 access to our workspace in Dublin's Liberties • Flexible areas for focused work and team collaboration If you’ve already applied and you’d like to be included in the launch intake, send us an email: members@baseline.community. Grow your coworking community. Host of Coworking Convos and Coworking Out Loud. Author of The Daily Co. Community builder, teacher, creator and speaker.
There were lots of great takeaways from Friday's Convo on building community in a coworking space, but this one stayed with me: Melanie Cozzolino from CoWork Kingston @ Senate Garage talked about a conscious pivot they made from being a desk rental business to being a hub for community. This mindset shift changed everything and opened the doors to fruitful partnerships, creative events, stronger messaging, positioning the space for the entire local community, new projects to support artists, entrepreneurs, creatives, business owners and more. The transformation has been remarkable. So if you feel like you're stuck in desk rental land, the first step to creating something extraordinary is to make a mindset shift that your space is going to be a hub for community and connection. The rest will grow from there. #coworking #community ____________________________ 🤓 Hey, friend! Did you know I run a membership community for coworking space operators and community managers? The Lab is now 70+ members strong and day in and day out members grow their coworking space and community together. Want in? Drop me a DM and I'll tell you all about it. I'll also put the link to learn more in the comments. Bonus: Lab members get exclusive access to the Coworking Convos Archives, so you can catch up with any Convos you've missed on your own time.

⭐Want a private office that feels like your own but don't know where to start? Read about Freeflow’s journey with Codi and discover how it may be easier than it appears… For FreeFlow’s Co-founders Berk Serbetcioglu and Ramiro Sugranes, they were seeking a space where they could collaborate and focus on building their empire in a professional setting. As a team of 2, they were worried they wouldn’t be treated as a priority in their search for an office. They found the opposite to be true when they teamed up with Codi. “Codi treated us great and no different than if we were a team of 20. Not only did our incentives align when working with Codi, but they’re so much more than just an office provider.” The Codi team jumped at the opportunity to assist FreeFlow, who was also new to the San Francisco scene. As with all our clients, we made the office search process as painless as possible for them. Without wasting any time, FreeFlow began touring beautiful spaces that checked all of their boxes. “It was 3 days from completing a form on Codi’s website to signing our lease. I was shocked at how simple and straightforward it was. In fact, we committed to the first space we visited with Codi.” Read more about the amenities FreeFlow is enjoying in their Codi space and how they have settled into their new neighborhood below!🚀: https://lnkd.in/gutn7Cyb

Almost four years ago the ‘Founding Four’ of us were sitting in a WeWork trying to set up our phones and computers. I remember taping acoustic foam to the walls trying to reduce the echo in the closet of a space we were using. It was real deal startup mode. We were starting off with zero customers, zero carriers, and zero revenue. All we had was a vision and a plan to build a best-in-class, service focused brokerage and a story to back it. We were given the opportunity by RFX to start their first internal brokerage to coincide with their agent model. I remember sitting in that WeWork with Spence Manthe, Nate Lourie, & Adrian Montoya figuring out how we wanted to craft our pitch, how we would cover our loads, etc. There was a ton of uncertainty and nervous excitement, but it was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in my career. I remember the joy we felt when we won our first load, and when the phone rang from an inbound call for the first time. It was madness in the best way possible. Those are memories that will last a lifetime, and memories I still reflect on often. Our story and the internal model we built resonated with more shippers than even we expected it to, and before we knew it we were a year in with 30 employees and had just done $35M in revenue. We didn’t have much, but we had enough grit and tenacity to find a way to win. At that point our brokerage sold to Joseph Toe and Summit Eleven. Nate stayed at RFX to become their CEO and is building something special over there, and the rest of us headed to S11. With new technology solutions like OmnisTMS, we were thrilled to continue our growth. Fast forward to current, we scaled to a $60M brokerage in one of the worst freight markets our industry has ever faced. Huge testament to our people for staying tough and fighting through external economic issues - it was not easy. I have hundreds of stories I could tell, but really I just want to thank everyone who has been a part of this. Our employees both current and former, our customers, carriers, technology partners, and our loved ones who supported us. Special thank you to my dear friend Spence Manthe for leading the way. There is no better mentor, coach, or leader in this industry. Also a huge thank you to my wife Jakki Jakaj for not only being a total badass in her career, but also for supporting me in mine. It’s been a wild ride, and I could not be more excited about our next chapter with Zipline Logistics and Frontenac. We chose them over several suitors, and we can’t wait to show our customers and carriers why. At the end of the day, the biggest lesson I’ve learned from this journey is that as corny as it sounds, literally anything is possible in this space. There is no industry like ours. Nobody has it all figured out, and everyone is learning as they go. Start that company, go chase that dream, dive in headfirst, and take the plunge. Take it from a rock-eater like me who found a way to build a $60M company with his friends.

Unpopular opinion. I’ve always liked the idea of co-working spaces and thought they have so much potential. Yes, it’s easy to look at WeWork’s shortcomings, but their missteps shouldn’t define an entire industry, especially if the industry pre-dates WeWork by 15 years and has grown by +1000% in the last 2+ decades. Co-working spaces are supposed to be places of opportunities and possibilities—a harbor of rich cross-pollination of ideas, expertise, and knowledge to leverage. An active support network for startups, SMEs, and the curious. A sandbox for entrepreneurs and other ambitious minds to experiment, learn, and grow. And more. But most of the above are hard to do well, much less sustain. Perhaps, instead of replicating the past, more of these spaces would benefit from going back to basics. Be values-driven. Focused on building and growing niche individuals and businesses that align with your values. Be more Intentional in curatorial programming, authentic in community connection, and thoughtful in collaboration. Continue exhibiting courage in breaking traditional silos and display more ingenuity in pushing the boundaries of what a quality niche community that thrives might looks like. The future of work might need more of this.
