When Florin Hilbay first proposed teaching a Bitcoin course at Silliman University, he anticipated skepticism. Although the historic educational institution in Dumaguete ultimately approved of it, Hilbay first thought their agreement might have been just a courteous gesture. “Noong umpisa, I thought perhaps they were just being nice to me, na siguro 'ito si Florin nagkakaroon ng midlife crisis or something', or I know iyong iba thinks Florin is a scammer, or some think na 'he's done some good for the Republic kaya pagbigyan niyo na,'” he said during the meetup BitPinas co-organized with Luis Buenaventura of GCash (Mynt - Globe Fintech Innovations, Inc.). As the former Solicitor General of the Philippines, he vigorously defended the country’s territorial rights in the international case concerning the West Philippine Sea; a detailed recap of which is beyond the scope of our crypto news website. Most discussions around Blockchain/Web3 are always focused on BTC/ETH #ETF, #DeFi, #L1/L2/L3 for quick returns, leading to an over-saturation of unused infrastructure and many dying projects. Not much attention is given to the relevance of #Web3 and the Creator Economy. (Some of this information you might already know) Web1 > Web2 > Web3 represents a new era as technology advances and new user behaviors are influenced by increasingly sophisticated tools. The creator economy is marked by progressive changes or states in each era: - Web1 (30+ years ago): Businesses (Centralized) Content = Where static content created by a small number of producers (e.g., big companies) was the initial opportunity for creators. - Web2 (started 20+ years ago): User-Generated Content (as Gen X and Y wanted to be heard) on centralized platforms revolutionized the business model and spurred the growth of the creator economy. - Web3 (believed to come): Commoditizing User-Generated Content on Decentralized platforms. Gen Z (asking "Why should my data/creation be sold and I get only a fraction?") is leading to the robust acceleration of the next creator economy and innovative business models. Core Technologies in the Next Wave of the Web3 <> Creator Economy:- 1. Social Media/Content/Streaming Platforms ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 2. Digital Marketing Tools ✅ (Matured tech and use cases) 3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) (maturing tech with killer use cases) 4. Blockchain Technologies (yet to mature and need killer use cases) But #Blockchain is the only technology that facilitates the most important aspect—commoditizing user creation. There's a growing debate & calls to focus on driving innovative use cases and killer apps, but progress is hindered due to the extreme difficulty of development without a good suite of interconnected tools (as we ourselves experience every day). *Try to hire developers to develop non-#EVM chain, and you will need a lot of luck. "RWA yields are too low for crypto" is a common criticism of #RWA when speaking to #web3 natives While true historically, it doesn't hold up during bear markets when speculative mania ebbs. Quick glance at onchain yields: AAVE USDC/USDT deposit <4% Ethena Labs USDe yield 3-4% Compare that with US Treasuries at 5% and corp bonds at 5-6%, the negative spread is a tax on keeping liquidity onchain during bear markets Yields in crypto today are funded primarily by perpetual funding rates that are strongly correlated to market sentiment and bullish momentum RWA yields can provide exogenous yields and allow healthy #DeFi activity even in bearish markets like the past quarter. 3AC Liquidators File $1.3B Claim Against Terraform Labs: A Twist in the Crypto Saga 💥 In a significant development in the cryptocurrency world, liquidators of the collapsed hedge fund Three Arrows Capital (3AC) have filed a $1.3 billion claim against Terraform Labs in Delaware federal court. The claim alleges that Terraform Labs misled 3AC about the stability of tokens in the Terra ecosystem, particularly TerraUSD ($UST) and Terra Luna ($LUNA). 🎙 This misleading information allegedly led 3AC to invest heavily in Terra just before its catastrophic crash in May 2022. The liquidators argue that Terraform Labs artificially inflated the prices of these assets, causing massive losses for 3AC and contributing to its eventual bankruptcy. USDe is available as derivatives margin within Bybit’s Unified Trading Account (UTA), as well as in fee-free spot markets against USDT and USDC. Through Copper’s ClearLoop, institutional holders can deploy USDe balances instantly to the exchange, whilst they remain secure within Copper’s MPC custody infrastructure. The highest and best use of well built public blockchains is DeFi. But DeFI isn't just AMMs or Offers order books. It's also enabling title and commerce in title - first for RWA's that don't have titles but are quite valuable - luxury goods, collector goods, art, high end bikes. Ultimately it is about creating One Market for all types of assets.
