To me, a five star rating means that everyone should read the book. Not necessarily that it was perfect or incredible. This book is an example of a five-star book that is very nearly perfect, and also very necessary to an awful lot of people.

I know 'stop and smell the roses' has been done before, but I cannot recall how recently, nor a time when it was done so well. Humor and heart and diversity (and helmets) for the win! I especially liked that the girl has two speeds now; sometimes going all out *is* appropriate.… (more)

As adorable as the first book of this series! Fun plus learning in a single amazing package.

Sasha Patience Pruitt, the girl whose middle name simply doesn’t apply to her, is back with her bestie Mr. Sloth. This time, Sasha has woken up with the sudden whim of going swimming. She rushes to get things ready and dreams of having a great time with Mr. Sloth. Unfortunately, Mr. Sloth is as slow as ever, taking ages to get things going. Sasha gets more and more impatient as obstacles keep coming their way. Finally, she can’t wait any more and goes swimming on her own. But is swimming fun without your best friend to splash next to you?

Book one of this series, 'Mindful Mr. Sloth', focussed on mindfulness and on balancing living in the moment as well as rushing to complete tasks. This time around, the idea is to show how to stay calm when things aren’t going your way. Some things are worth waiting for, but what do you do when you don't have the patience to wait? Hyperventilating doesn’t help, losing your temper doesn’t help, insisting on doing things your way doesn’t help. You need tremendous patience and planning to go through the tough time successfully. And who better to show you this than the adorable duo in this story?

Sasha is as cute as she was in the first book. With her curly hair and expressive face, she is a charmer all the way, even when she is fretting and fuming. Mr. Sloth is amazing this time around as he has lot more to do, though he still does it at his own pace. He is the best companion to ground Sasha and calm her.

This story would work so wonderfully to read aloud! There are plenty of options to narrate with sound effects, especially when it comes to wording slow Mr. Sloth.

The language is very easy for early readers. Simple words in a clear font and not overcrowded on a page. The illustrations are perfect for the story. You’ll find not just the characters but also the detailing attractive and inclusive.

All in all, strongly recommended to every little angel who wants to rush their way to a new idea without planning it in advance and without having patience with those who lag. This book will teach them, “Good things come to those who wait.” The suggested target reader group is levels PreK-3. This story will be a good addition to schools and libraries too.

4.5 stars.

My thanks to Capstone Editions and NetGalley for the DRC of “Waiting on Mr. Sloth”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

Look at the cover! Isn't it super-duper scrumptious? Fortunately, the book does complete justice to the cover page and matches it in cuteness.

The story tells us of a little girl named Sasha Patience whose middle name doesn't indicate her hyperactivity. She loves to begin multiple things at once without necessarily completing anything. But the day Mr. Sloth waddles into her life, it turns upside down.

The story is absolutely well-written. But more than the plot itself, I loved the book for its non-judgemental tone. It accepts that being fast and being slow both are needed at times. Thus no child in either category is pressured to join the other side.

The illustrations are melt-your-heart adorable! A worthy book for all early readers as it teaches them (and their parents) the valuable lesson of focussing on the present. As W.H. Davies said in his poem 'Leisure',
WHAT is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare?

Thank you, NetGalley and Capstone Editions, for the Advanced Review Copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
