This started out well. Intriguing really.

Amanda, the heroine, hires a male prostitute for her 30th birthday because she has no intention of getting married anymore, believing that her time has passed. Of course there is a mix up and the hero, Jack, is the one to arrive at her house which leads her to mistake him for the other guy.

Interesting right?! Especially in a historical context. But it all kinda went downhill from there. I mean, there was nothing particularly wrong with the rest of the book, it was just fine. I didn’t really feel the connection between the two leads and the conflict wasn’t all that interesting.

What I did like was that Amanda was a successful novelist and Jack helped her go and do bigger, greater things in terms of her career. There were a lot of feminist ideas interspersed in the story.

D.L. Howe Well dang, it’s a shame it was just fine because I love that premise. Awesome review, Giorgia!

message 2: by Bella (new) - added it

Bella - It's indeed intriguing! I wish the connection between the two main characters had been more palpable.
Meh, It's actually sad because the blurb is so promising... and I would like to hear about the feminist ideas.
I think I am still interested in this story!🤭 Great review Giorgia!👌🏻🖤

message 3: by Arini (new)

Arini i dont think 30 is that old, but okay this is HR. also i love the mistaken identity trope! sorry it didnt live up to its potential tho. wonderful review! ♡

B(ea) hope your is better, Giorgia!✨🤞🏻 i’m looking forward for more Lisa Kleypas review from youu☺️

Giorgia Reads @Debbie, to be honest, I would still recommend it. It wasn’t a bad book. I have a feeling that this might be a case of “me not the book”. Sometimes when it comes to feeling the connection between the leads, it’s 50/50. So if the synopsis sounds good to you, you might wanna give it a try 😅

Giorgia Reads @Bella, thank you! I would still recommend the book tbh. It was well written and had a very progressive look on women’s place on society (for a historical) as I was saying to Debbie, I think this could be a me problem rather than a book problem. So if the synopsis sounds good to you, you should try it xx

Giorgia Reads @Arini, yeah lol, when I saw that she was 30 and saying she’s basically an old spinster, I was like “huh!?” But I went with it. I suppose it was semi-believable for the historical context. I need to try more of Lisa Kleypas’s books after this one.

Giorgia Reads @alluringB, thank you! I can’t wait to try more elf her books!

Milla Jesus I’m turning 30 in a months and have no plans to get married... the plot of this book has me feeling a type of way lmao. Hope your next book is better angel!

Giorgia Reads @Jam thanks hon! x
lmao I thought the exact same thing but then I consoled myself with the fact that it’s a historical book. Tbh though, I read so many contemporary stories where the heroine is like “I’m gonna be turning ..28/29/30 and I’m still single, what has my life become” now, that, is extra and I have no patience for it 😅
